D_acolyte
Hi, I am a long time DM and a player from 1st ed Malifluax. I am doing a RPG one shot for a convention in GA and wanted to get peoples opinion on how hard it is for people to pic up with pre-generated characters and how difficult is it to pre-generate characters. I often find that beginning characters are a little to weak in most games. The full plot is in the works but it is about the party being on a train during a hijacking. After the convention if it works well I will post the ruff list of the story, any twists, as well as any enemies I make for it.
Kadeton
I ran some of the TtB demos at Gencon, with characters that I pre-generated. I advanced them a few steps along one or two Pursuits and gave most of them a manifested power - it wasn't so much that starting characters were weak (you can build really scary starting characters) but that I wanted the sessions to have a mix of social and combat encounters, and my character concepts all required a manifested power to really get going. Coincidentally, my session was also about being on a train during a hijacking (more of a deliberate derailment, really). The characters I generated were: A sheltered young aristocratic woman A mild-mannered newspaper reporter A fraudulent stage magician A steam-augmented convict labourer A shotgun-toting old lady bankrobber They were pretty easy to pre-generate, and the players grasped the concepts and mechanics really quickly. It's an easy game to jump into.
