IMO, Mad Dog has even more problem with enagagement that Alyce, with 0 range he can be locked by almost anything. Yes you can move him with emissary but you not each time hire emyssary from start. Dog a very good model, but I don't think that he should be nerfed. He is main bandit damage dealer. All other (Sue, Parker1) not that effective. Gunslingers and Wokou are overpriced.

u suggest give dog divine charge?)

wyrd should remove built in trigger on his gun and gaining fast from marker

he is autopick in any outcasts crew

  2. most games u can play yannik, hanna, aric, 2 engineers, effigy+up

sometimes u switch hannah/aric with mad dog if u want to kill armored stuff faster

1 schill is much more better than title to my mind- even on corner u can go close to enemy and make pressing-kill enforsers, minions

on close deployments u just pull enemy into your crew and kill them while schill leaps back

    Thanks for the answer!

Is it worth it tho?  I see its worth early on (T1-2) but I don't see it as a worthy payment (freikorpsman + yannic is already 12 ss) for the whole game. I get seriously yanked by not getting it :)

Ofc getting to mold a great hand T1 is really beneficial but I usually save the good cards in my hand T1, with tools on the engi and siphon power on hannah both Arik, Hannah usually end T1 with 2xfocus and 6-8" up the board. And when the duels starts in T1 the good cards get depleted fast, and I usually don't afford to use activations for these kinds of actions.

Perhaps I'm the problem and the yannic+VS combo doesn't fit my playstyle..

it always worth it-u just kill opp on 1-3 turns and score everything u want next turns

    • For veterans: The game is becoming bloated, there's certain level of powercreep. There were bad models before, that never gonna see play with the new standard of what's becoming the baseline. There's a design swift where a bunch of new crews are getting the most powerful mechanic in the game: card draw.
There are poor written abilities that raise more doubts about the game.

    • For less experiences player: The game is really bloated. Most of the people won't play against every master/title in their lifetime. (I've played 311 games since GG1 and I haven't done that yet). Abilities and long lasting effects are becoming more complicated. It's quite difficult to be "up to speed".

    • For newcomers: There isn't a good entry point to the game (what @Maniacal_cackle). Between masters and titles, there are way too many profiles in the game right now. More and more complicated mechanics. Abilities and triggers that do the same, but have complete different names. There isn't like a campaign system or similar "friendly entry" to the game to attract new players. We've been waiting for the henchman program to come back (or anything like that) to try to support small groups.

I'm not going to stop playing Malifaux, because it's a great game and probably the best I've played. However, me and bunch of people with whom I've talked, are feeling that the crazyness of M2E is coming back, and that's going to take a toll in the playerbase, which never fully recovered from bumpy M3E launch, Evergreen logistics shitshow and pandemic.

I don't know if BalanceFaux is the answer, I actually don't think so. However, in my opinion, it's a good "going back to the roots" that allows to take a pause from catching up with everything that's been launched in the past 2 years.

I also understand that Wyrd needs to keep selling to function, but here I am (and like me, many other people!), waiting for a couple of novels that collect all the lore, a new TOS starting box where both commanders have faces, a campaign system...

agree-at the start m3e were much more balanced than now

and we all see wyrds behavior to players-errata includes few models, it comes 2 times/year, playtest includes not top players/pro testers

u can say that they are small company comparing to gw, but they could:

    1) include almost all models in errata that need buff/nerf, update app and than sometime print new cards(all of us use app, but few use printed cards)

    2) pay more attention to vassal games-many of them are recorded and u can see problems with some models almost everywhere if u have internet and if new release comes broken-nerf it faster than in half year

    3) ask only top players to make playtest if u cannt hire pro; maybe make some programm to support them-send some mistery boxes for playtesters

I'm honestly not a fan. Why add all the  marker removal in the last wave of you're going to let a master drop 5+ non-removable markers a turn?

Also why doesn't the Artillery Master use the shockwave mechanic?

    1665784368148812.jpg

its just another round of powercreep

    models will not sell themselves

I wasn't opposed to the format - it just wasn't initially my favourite 'solve' for the broken stuff.

My preference order was more or less:

    1) Community-consensus driven errata to the really broken/weak stuff, where we share what we're testing directly with Wyrd.
    2) Targeted title bans, 1 from each faction.
    3) BalanceFaux
    4) No Madness of Malifaux.
    5) Standard.

I acknowledge my top two are highly idealistic and in practice would be extremely hard to actually agree on and implement, so to me, BalanceFaux is a good compromise.

Banning all titles in some events feels heavy handed at first but I think it's still better than playing standard in every event, where you're matched against Nexus2 every second round and Damian2 just walks over everyone with absurd win rates.

damian 2 is not hard to play against

    I mean, what's the point?

With the imminent power creep of Titles, factions and upcoming new keywords, what's the point in nerfing the old, when the new are more in a alignment with the original M3E releases than the errattaed.

I miss my old Dreamer with half a fate deck by T4, Levi is hiding with embarassment in a stable after ruling supreme, Explorers can't appreciate their wins anymore, and poor, poor Colette, Som'er, Shtook and all the rest, who now see themselves eclipsed by their alternate selves.

    -

I appreciate how hard it is to design games, and Malifaux is one of the best mini games out there, but it seems like old mistakes are just being repeated, for the sake of a quick tug at our wallets.

I don't buy Malifaux models to win games, I do so to play them. If I wanted pay to win, I wouldn't have looked beyond Games Workshop - and like GW; if game design goes down the drain, so does my interest.

wyrd makes gw strategy-make new powercreep and than nerf it)

but what we talking abt if they dont want to hire pro testers?

also this stupid limitation for cards in errata...why not balance all the stuff? app will update immidiatly

many old stuff was not nerfed like og leveticus, shenlong, dashel, dreamer, asami, ophelia, zoraida and models like mad dog, candy, scavangers, pale rider, sensei, minako rei and some others

In some parts of the competitive scene, there's growing dissatisfaction with some aspects of game balance. New content is released faster than old content is errata-ed, so with current trends there is never a point in time where the game will have all content balanced through errata. New content gets a free pass on errata until the year after its physical release.

Now of course this makes sense - competitive players aren't the only ones that Wyrd caters to. Many players don't play models until they're physically released. But for scenes like ours, where things are legal to be proxied the moment they're in the app, it can cause quite a long delay for powerful things to receive balancing errata.

My favorite story is when one player was playing for a few hours, and then looked at the two masters being played on the table... He started cackling as he realized he hated *both* of the crews on the table.

It can feel hard to be competitively relevant without playing the strong stuff yourself... But then your opponent is worried about the strong stuff, so also has to declare some of the most powerful masters. It's a catch-22.

So... A format has been proposed!

In BalanceFaux, the core idea is that content is banned until it is eligible for errata.

There's talk about the new Madness of Malifaux content - in competitive circles, some players are already convinced some of the content is going to need errata. I know players who have played dozens of games with Damian (and I know other players who don't even have access to the sculpts yet).

Banning Madness of Malifaux content until it is eligible for errata will give a unique experience. For many of us, it will be the first time playing the game where all content has been at least considered for balancing errata. One issue is that titles also have not been eligible for errata (except McMourning), but it feels a bit heavy handed to take out everything from Malifaux Burns. So... here are the rules:

    • All masters from Malifaux Burns are banned (but you are allowed to use the minions, enforcers, and henchmen).
    • All models from Madness of Malifaux are banned.

After there is an errata cycle with Malifaux Burns masters getting errata-ed, then BalanceFaux will update to allow them. When there are new releases in 2023, they will be banned until they receive their first errata. When Madness of Malifaux receives errata (likely in 2024), that content will enter the format.

This will provide a format for people to get the same experience of content releasing as regular Malifaux, but with a more balanced approach, emphasizing at least some errata content. It won't fix all balance issues, but the hope is that it will result in a more balanced competitive experience that many of us are craving.

I believe some events are already being organized with the BalanceFaux format, so I wanted to make a post where people could see the underlying philosophy (and rules). If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

many old stuff need to be balanced, new stuff

i think maybe better to balance models

like community patch and show it to wyrd-maybe they will add it to errata

  9. kastore is awful

he is not a melee fighter with his stats, he is not a good caster-8" dominate, enemy only...

he even cannt kill mindless zombies to drop scheme markers because its keyword only...

dominate must have effect on friendly models like giving fast/focus and make ensorcel if u dont want to make it on enemy

melee trigger to drop marker must be just friendly - not keyword only

    • Agree 1
    • Respectfully Disagree 1

I get Von Schill, but doesn't Leveticus just die to Damian 2 kidnap into melee (no triggers or stones) and then lohith coming in to lantern of souls him?

And what about Tara in particular?  I would have assumed her crew would struggle to land hits, as she isn't great vs card draw crews. But haven't played much against Tara2.

standart levi crew(dog+2-3 scavengers) just kill damian crew on range

title damian not dangerous-he is just a tank-u can ignore him

tara title with same 1-2 scavengеrs bury any model she dont like and kill

    og damian is more dangerous

This has had no practical experience it's just my first ideas.

Plague. Go blight and concentrate on lohith. Lots of little attacks on him to get the blight so he can't cheat them all. If any gamin of the box shows its face try and get rid of the as fast as you can. Don't go for Damien early on unless you think you have a good chance to finish him.

Mercenary. I'd go for ronin to get at the support models ( who rely on armour) and possibly kenshiro to help charge round corners.

Bandit. Mad dog is good (duh!) And will scare lothith. Run and gun to keep my distance from them and still be able to attack. Aim to get at the support models.

Infamous. Use mobility to avoid the big models and get at the support.  Pianos can prevent some of the los requiring thing's (maintain order or beacon of order or refraction). First mate is a good shout fir getting to the houses the soul

Amalgam. I'm not sure if a horseman list or not is the way to go. Normal levi is a good minion killer, which is nice to shift the support, but the horses are mobile and capable of multiple duels to help drain witnesses hand.

Tormented. Try and use the fact you can have more cards than Witness to neuter the normal hand advantage.

Obliterate. Try and get to the support with fast, and then unbury in there to cause havoc.

Friekorps. Probably the hardest. Just play your normal game and hope you can do it better than the Witness game. You are durable. I might consider holding on to the threat of the 9 damage Hannah to try and keep Witness away.

Versatile. I would look at midnight stalker as a fast leaping model.

lohith is not the main model in witness(its a secret)))

so killing him will not give u big advatages

i mostly play damian without him

    just 10ss with 2 actions-not very cool

Any thoughts for beating Witness with Outcasts?

My friend and I were just brainstorming factions for our upcoming tournament, but we know some of the players ordered Witness models so want to be prepared.

Not sure Outcasts have any solid plays into Witness?

ez kill with leveticus/von schill/tara title

Agree that Harata is a strange Performer. He doesn't  have any movement trick and is the only one Living Performer that doesn't  have Don't  Mind  Me (and fluffwise, I could have missed somerhing but he doesn't have in reason to be a Performer).

But he has a role. First, he is the only min3 damage attack in the keyword.

Second, his Haka Peruperu can be effective.

I have already Presto-Changoed an already activated Peacekeeper near unactivated Harata and Duet. Harata used Peruperu and attacked the Peacekeeper. Next activation, the Duet attacked 4 times the Peacekeeper. With Attack 7 versus Def 4, the ping damage was super effective. At the end of the turn, the Peacekeeper had 2 Health left.

I cheated initiative next turn. Activated the Duet, two more attacks with 1 damage each and the Peacekeeper was dead without any retaliation from it.

So Peruperu and the Duet can be a good combo, especially versus armored models who generally have low Def.

just take mecharachnid with ssc-its more effective and tanky model

im just talking abt wp dmg in whole arcanists

in explorers maxine hits with great dmg in harata aura, but in performers he have no place at all

Hm... not to be rude but why not lay this decision with the developers.

In most other games, decisions made by players active in competitive gaming leaned to heavily towards personal taste and favour, and as much as i like the world series, the referee decisions should come from outside the active competitive players. Just my personal opinion formed from long years of competitive Tabletopgaming.

I also feel that fixing the blatantly unclear rule sentences more than once a year is not asking too much, because that's not rebalancing, thats just correcting  a probably not well thought over sentence into something thats precise.

I mean whats all this Forum talk for after all. This Post has been ongoing 2 Pages about the meaning of 1 sentence with reference to grammar and such, and all it needs is for devs to look at the card and think about the intent of the rule and then just update the card so this discussion goes obsolete. I mean it hasn't been released it hasn't been incorporated into the app, this should be easy. Gogogo...

i think that operative answers from devs woupd be great and this answers we should get in the app-nobody need cards on a paper now, so only fate decks for irl game

and maybe some place like forum, where devs will answer on faq and we not need to wait whole year for it to happen
