That would be awesome. Iconic shops would be fun as well. Nicodem's undertaker shop Levi's Salvage shop.

University of Transmortis, Latigo Ranch, Star Theater, M&SU HQ, Freikorps HQ.

GW is also nicer to my wallet than my children...

:huh:Those are some price-gouging children! Do they also release a new version every 18-24 months, requiring you to buy new rulebooks to play with the same children you've had for years?

I wouldn't mind them reaching out to K&R Multicase as well.

Sure, the more, the merrier. I just notice that K&R Multicase don't seem to have game manufacturer branding/images already on their existing products. (That I can find on their website, anyway.) Whereas Battle Foam really seemed to have embraced it, and it must be a win-win for both them and the companies who own and have licensed the use of the designs. The templates for larger miniatures in Battle Foam's online custom tray generator section is also extremely handy, for those who want foam rather than magnetization. That's something else that I can't find K&R offering on their site, at this point in time. But I'm certainly not getting a kickback from Battle Foam to spruik them in particular. If K&R or a different manufacturer makes an agreement with Wyrd to slap their branding all over the cases, I'd be all for it! ^_^ Competition is great for the consumer.

And with that, his transformation into a Free-Market Capitalist was complete.

    McMourning is my favourite master.

Have you (or anyone else who is reading) got much experience running McMourning in the Resser faction with his 4 allowed cross-faction Beast and/or Academic models, after taking the "Test Subjects" upgrade? Which imported Beasts/Academics did you use? Poison Gamin and The Scorpius seem likely choices due to the synergy with Poison.

In faction, I'm curious as to how he will go with Shikome, Canine Remains, Night Terrors, the Valedictorian, Students of Steel/Sinew/Viscera in particular.

I bought McMourning by himself. I realise McMourning has good synergy with the other models in his box in particular, but I don't much like the models, and I'm mainly looking to play Arcanists. At least I can use the Shikome and Canine Remains in Marcus lists, and the University of Transmortis models with Sandeep (eventually). But Sebastian isn't going to be any use to me elsewhere. Apart from McMourning himself, I'm trying not to buy any Resser models except those I can also play with Arcanists. (Though I see I may have to get a couple of Flesh Constructs due to his ability to summon them after destroying enemies with Expunge).

Theres already patches available in the backerkit. Can't see why they wont eventually be available to everyone.

True. I was suggesting to Wyrd that they may want to consider supplying Battle Foam as a third-party distributor of the patches, when they become available for retail sale. Branded bags would take a lot of to-and-fro, with the design and IP rights and whatnot, and would have to be deemed financially viable for it to be worth it. But since Battle Foam already sell patches from other systems, piece of cake! ^_^

The upgrade will be available in the Broken promises Upgrade pack. (I have no idea if its in wargames vault yet). The pack will contain 2 upgrades per master (and conflux upgrades for the newer masters), so you may well find it cheaper to just buy the whole box than all the individual upgrades you want.

I think the upgrade pack is sold from Wyrd's own store and most stores carrying their model line.

Good advice, thanks @Adran and @Ludvig. I checked Wargames Vault and it's not available on there yet. Broken Promises Upgrade Pack it is. :)

Yes. His new Wave 5 upgrade "Test Subjects" which is dual faction, allows him to hire four models with the Beast or Academic characteristic. It also causes any model with those characteristics to heal when they activate near him so it's never a useless upgrade. Bring a Malifaux Raptor and you can even give non-Beasts in your list a condition that applies the Beast characteristic so they also benefit from the healing aura (like McMourning himself).

Of course matchups against Marcus could get messy.

    Thanks, @Freman

Now that I know the name of the upgrade, I can buy the card from Wargame Vault, even if a copy of the Wave 5 book itself isn't currently in the budget. This is a great way for a budding Arcanist Marcus player to have another master with which to mess around with the beast miniatures. Potentially also an Oxfordian Mage!

Phew. I'm relieved my impulse addition of a single McMourning miniature to a recent trade swag of miniatures wasn't a ludicrous purchase after all. It's official, McMourning will be my first Ressurectionist master! ^_^

  8. H'ok, so... n00b question.

I heard a rumour that McMourning can take models with the Beast and Academic sub-types. I only have access to books 1, 2 and 3 at the moment, however, and haven't been able to find this fabled upgrade.

Is it listed as an upgrade available in book 4 or 5? Or, is it simply too good to be true? Have I made an embarrassing, nonsensical beginner's gaffe, along the lines of "I hear that Perdita is allowed to take Nephilim models if you play your turns backwards, while squinting?" :P

  9. Start Malifaux by painting and playing with Marcus and his wonderful menagerie of the Arcanist faction beasts.

Experiment with the exotic imports of models with the beast sub-type from other factions. (So far that'll be Dawn Serpent, Shikome, Canine Remains, Silurids).

Based on the learnings from those games, choose a second Arcanist master whose play style will seem to be a good progression/addition.

Yeah, I've already ordered a Battlefoam magnarack. This stuff is too big and weirdly shaped for foam. Wouldn't mind a branded bag, but if not, I ordered patches.

Sounds like there's some market for branded bags in which to schlep the magnaracks, for the magnetizing crowd.

  11. Wyrd already has a relationship with a leading manufacturer of foam trays and carry bags, Battle Foam. Branded Malifaux bags and foam trays designed for Puppet Wars are available.

Hopefully, after The Other Side is launched, Wyrd will also be able to arrange for TOS branded bags and templates of the various cut-out shapes for the custom foam tray generator. It would be wonderful to schlep around TOS forces in style, with the larger pieces, in particular, snugly secured in precision-shaped foam.

Battle Foam also already sell fabric patches for other systems. I note from the Backerkit that there are already fabric patches for the TOS factions designed. Handy!

If readers would be potentially interested, please like and/or comment, so that Wyrd can get a bit of an idea of potential demand.

If somebody wants to play sniper heavy, maybe this person should play another faction :)

    Fair call!

    In other news:

    • Hoarcat Pride (Cost -1)
    • Slateridge Mauler (Cost -1)
    • Razorspine Rattler (Cost -1)
    • Cojo (Cost -2)
    • Wild Boar (Cost -1)
    • Spawn Mother (Cost -1)
    • Shikome (Cost -1)
    • Dawn Serpent (Cost -1)

Looks like good news for Marcus beast lists! I chose the right first Master! ^_^

Decrease in Mechanized Porkchop may help Mei Feng, even if Johan's increase does not.

Johan and the Trapper were two mercs that brought Arcanists something that they had no access to in faction (Offensive Condition Removal and Sniping) so it's kind of crappy to see them get more expensive.

Maybe that'll mean more Hans over Trappers in lists? Obviously, if someone needed two snipers, they can only ever take the one Hans...

I really hate putting all my eggs in one basket like this. If your opponent shows up with a couple of blast attacks they'll probably be able to kill spiders more quickly than Ramos can summon them.

I suppose that's the fun and fatal flaw of an ultra min-max'd theme list like this one. Either it's going to work on a given day's encounter, or it isn't. ;)It sounds like it would be fun to drop on a few unsuspecting players who had to scramble to come up with a way of countering it while achieving the encounter's objectives. But it wouldn't work as someone's only list. If the opponent knew it was coming, it maximises the chances they'd bring something to nullify it (such as in the example WWHSD gave above).

My goal is to created a 50SS list, which includes every model and is cheap as hack. In others words: 1x Master Box and 1x Something Box.

Do you mean you want to include every model that comes in both the Master's Box and the second box (e.g. a box of 3 Minions) in your 50SS list? To avoid having leftovers/wastage? It took me a moment to figure out what you likely meant. I thought at first that you wanted to include every model in the faction in a 50SS list, and I was afraid I was going to have to be the bearer of bad news to cause disappointment. ;)

If that's the case, you'd want to make sure that if you include a box of 3 Minions, that they're very good and versatile Minions. But I don't know anything about Guild pieces, so I'll let those who are more experienced give you specific recommendations there.

I have a store nearby that has a few in stock when I get around to it, and it'll save me the horror that is US-AUS shipping rates

At least you get the better end of the currency exchange rate! :PTrust me, it's not fun the other way around.

I had no idea how rare they would be, NIB. Maybe I'm not sitting on the lucrative goldmine of out of production Malifaux miniatures in my backyard that I first thought...? :(

I started with Ramos, when i was getting into the game it was a toss up between Ramos and Hoffman, but i liked the look of Howard and the spiders more than Hoffmans bots.

That's interesting! For me, I love the Arcanist faction in general, but I don't much like the look of the spideresque models, especially Howard. I also don't much like the bare-chested half-mechanical humans, like Joss or Ryle. But I absolutely love the bots in the C. Hoffman box, and a few other of the Guild's robots as well. If I didn't love the non-construct Arcanist models so much as well, I'd strongly consider starting with Hoffman and the Guild instead. I guess that's part of why Wyrd produces so many products with such diverse styles. What doesn't appeal to one will appeal to another, and vice versa^_^

The Ramos box is the one to which I have the easiest and quickest access, because it's the only current Arcanist masters box on the shelves at my local store. Despite some strong incentive to go with it straight away, I'm just not sure I can bring myself to paint and play with Howard and the smaller spiders. :( It's likely my rampant arachnophobia is contributing...

I personally can't stand the plastic Myranda sculpt, I'm going to go for the metals when I get around to picking up Marcus.

If you want an OOP NIB Marcus box containing the old Myranda sculpt, I know where one is, with an authentic layer of dust to prove its provenance. ;)
