But I find it disrespectful to the TOs and the other players to flake on a commitment just because you're not going to take home the trophy.

There is nothing disrespectful about it at all. Life is too short to not look for ways to enjoy yourself.

Having been in the position of Round 1 Loss, Round 2 Loss, Round 3 Bye, I can tell you that it sucks. If the only thing happening on day 2 is this tournament, then yes, show up. But at a convention, or hell, LAS VEGAS, there are tons of other ways to spend your time.

Not doing well in the tournament, or having fun, go do LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE. No one is holding a gun to your head and making you stay. I am actually surprised that there were so few drops, considering where the tournament was. And all of that has nothing to do with the other players or TO (unless one of them was being a douche-canoe)

If you're not going to commit to an event, better not to enter it at all.

I don't think that's fair at all to say, especially in a 2-day event. And is definitely the wrong attitude to have towards those players.

Why not try and salvage your Sunday after going loss, loss, bye, or loss, tie, loss? It actually happens a lot in larger events. They could have showed up day 2, played for another 4+ hours and maybe pull out a win or two (which isn't putting you in the top, OR spend that time enjoying the sights and sounds of wherever you are (especially at any sort of convention). Unless you are a sucker for punishment, why give yourself a completely negative weekend?

(and that is all assuming that the players that dropped did it because they were losing, and not for personal matters)

We can be better than that as a community, and don't need to start trashing our own playerbase. Leave that to the other games.

I really do think that Wyrd could give us an ETA. So far I have not exactly been impressed with the special order program.

To be honest, I am just happy they have the option at all. Most miniatures companies wouldn't offer this, and would expect you to just buy the models again.

Hello, yes, it was me who took first at LVO! And I did indeed run exclusively my 6 model double mature build for the duration of the tournament.

Great job man! It is awesome to see that such a concentrated elite list can do well. Before all the cries of "net-listing", I have been looking for a small model-count crew for a while that can just eat other models, and I think I may have found it. Now the hard part will be actually finding the models for it (no crew box, and Matures seem to be scarce these days).

Thanks for the rundown of your games! Always appreciate it.

That is a shame to hear. I hope you are able and willing to talk them out of it!

(Insert sarcasm emote) Store owners love to see you buy things online then play for free in their space😉

I believe that we, as the consumer, drive what the stores sell. It wasn’t always this way, and I think some have a problem with that paradigm shift. Local distributors and stores do not determine what we play and buy, thankfully. If there is no demand from their customers to make it worth the hassle, I don’t blame them either. I do think agency lies within our wallets, though. If they lose revenue to competitors because of a line they chose not to carry, it’s on them.

Either way, a homogenous game community, supported by a distribution chain that carries only what they determine has value (based on their exclusive deals), is not great for gaming in the long term.

Enough of my ramblings. I will continue to do my part! I have money to spend,  a Ulix crew to finish up, and Guild to crush.

I agree with you. I want to play the game, and I want to have somewhere to play it. Short of just paying for the space (which more and more places are doing), I have no way to support my local gaming store when I want to buy Malifaux. It also means that sometimes we lose our table space to games the store DOES carry.

From a store owner's point of view, Malifaux is a hard sell. Unless you have a large player-base, all buying all of their stuff from you, it becomes a hard product to keep ordering and keep on hand. Stores in my area went through a similar spell with Warmachine. A combination of not needing to constantly buy stuff to upgrade your set (like the Magic model of needing new cards every week/month) and the regularity/comfortability at which people buy and sell online, makes keeping the product on a shelf in your store harder and harder.

And this is not a complaint against Wyrd; their game is great, the models are better than a lot of other options out there, and they seem to have a decent idea about how much to release how often (minor exceptions apply). In fact, Wyrd earned a lot of respect from myself and my peers when they announced that they would not be selling product ahead of "street date" at events they were at. That shows that they are thinking of the store owners too.

In my local meta, players usually play 2/3 masters. And currently for example I am 90% sure that TT player will take Shenlong ;) so that's one point

With Levi I struggle a little in some scheme pools (usually 2x necropunk and Stalker can fix it) but I am looking for more schemes and/or AP oriented crew. Parker and Tara fit it and both have different play style than levi.

To all others that wrote here, great answers, let's see what more can be decided.

for whatever it is worth, I saw Levi and Tara as a good duo (and would try to sneak in games with my Alt Hamelin crew). They were on my short list of tournament lists, but I have been seduced by Trixiebelle and her kin.

  7. Hello everyone.

I am venturing into the world of magnetizing my bases for the first time. I used to use the hard foam from Battlefoam, but find that it just doesn't do the trick with Malifaux models.

With the new bases coming with the 3e product, how are people magnetizing them? There doesn't seem to be enough room underneath now for magnets. I have seen some mention of using magnetic tape, but unsure if there is enough surface area for the tape to stick to the model well.

Looking for any helpful advice, as a player who is tired of reglueing his models after every long trip...

    Thank you!

I tend to pretty routinely include bokor's in a lot of my bayou lists.

I knew I was forgetting someone.

I may add in Wong and the Wizz-Bang crew as a third choice. Loving the flavour of them more than most of the other non-Kin and Tricksy (Ulix is a close 4th place).

Tricksy could probably cover most strats / schemes alone 😛

Kin are pretty flexible also, very killy and Ophelia is a great counter to nearly everything that wants to try and live (though terrifying can be annoying for her)

Thank you. I was hoping to hear that. Are there any non-keyword models that either of them would routinely tech in? Trying to plan my buy-list lol

While it would be nice to be as @Clement proposed, I don't think that will happen. My guess would be Vale + one type and another box with two types of students.

To be honest, I don't care much how Wyrd will split them, more importantly is that they get (re)released soon at all. Many crews are in a weird state of "some of their stuff available, other stuff not at all". I would like to see at least some crews having all their choices available.

Exactly this. It was also mention on the latest Third Floor Wars podcast. I think they need to finish out some of the keywords, as it is making it hard for new (or new to a keyword) players from not having to proxy everything. I want to get VS's box, but I already know that I either have to wait 6+ months for the University box to be re-released, or to constantly check the buy/sell pages for someone looking to sell theirs off.

The same can be said for almost all of the keywords, either solo models from encounter boxes (Manos/Mianko Rei), or hard to find models (Archie/Carlos Vasquez/Kitty Dumont).

Now, it's just waiting on how they're going to repack the Students. I've got the Transmortis, but it's kinda wanted that you have at least a second set of Students, even if just for summoning potential.

^This! I would love to see the new box posted in the upcoming section, as the original box is very hard to come by up here in Canada

my typical lists look like this (adjusting 1 or 2 models as needed depending on strats, schemes, and who I'm facing)

    Kin:

    Ophelia

    Young LaCroix x3

    Francois

    Merris

    Rami

    Raphael

    Gautreaux Bokor

    Gluttony

    7 stones remaining

    Tricksy

    Mah

    Little Lass

    Big Brain Brin

    Soulstone Miner x2

Rooster Rider x2 both with Inferiority Complex

    Bushwacker x2

    0 stones remaining

again - these are just my default starting point .... the lists then get tailored based on the terrain on the board, the strats and schemes, and who my opponent is bringing.

good to hear I was on the right track. I was thinking of something similar:

    Ophelia LaCroix
    3 Young LaCroix
    Francois - 9
    Rami - 6
    Raphael - 8
    LaCroix Raider - 5

And then fill in the rest of the list as dictated by the S&S/table, with upgrades, Gautrauex Bokor, Lucky Effigy w Upgrade, Sammy, Merris and additional Raiders

    Mah
    Little Lass
    Big Brain Brin

and then some combination of Rooster Riders, Soulstone Miners and Bushwhackers, plus upgrades.

Does Trixie ever make the cut? Any other potential models for the Kin? Thanks.

I find that both Tricksy and Kin can put out a lot of damage and what usually plays the biggest factor to pick one over the other is the amount of terrain on the board and how it is set up. Mah has more movement tricks both for her own models and to put enemies in less favourable spots - also her traps work best when there are clear lanes that models will be moving through. If there is a lot of open space Kin will usually out damage Tricksy.

You can make up for some of the lack of movement tricks in Kin by taking Gluttony when playing Idols or Turf War as he can push your models to the objectives plus Kin make a lot of corpses to push your opponent into. I honestly think he is one of the most important models to pick up withKin after their box set

What are your typical lists for each looking like? Kin seems to want to stay in keyword, while Tricksy looks like there is some room after the 3 Rooster Riders.

    :ToS-Fast:"Welcome to the Bayou"

I had heard that episode as well, and they had done a good job on summarizing the keyword. Ophelia and her Kins are a elite offense crew. All members can put out significant damage, or help others to do so. So as you may imagine, they really shine in a killy SS pool(Reckoning, Turf War, Assassination and etc).

Hence, when you are considering a second crew, you would like a crew to handle to other non-killy SS. The faction has some great keyword focus on scheming, like Zipp/Infamous and Zoraida/Swampfiend. Somer/Big Hat can do too but you may struggle a lot when learning him.

I for one started with Kin and Infamous. Zipp and his crew are highly mobile and can easily remove opponent's scheme marker. They are good at the Strategies like Corrupted Idols and Plant Explosives when you do not want to bring Kin into.

So do Kin and Tricksy play too similar of a game?

  15. Hello Green-folk.

I recently listened to the Third Floor Wars breakdown of the Kin keyword. Absolutely love the fluff behind them, and it is a nice bonus that Ophelia is routinely seen with her full crew box. I was wondering if there was a good second crew/keyword that could cover her weaknesses? I have heard talk of the Mah Focus-bomb, and shooting half a squad off the table in the first turn with Rooster Riders (which reminds me of Warmachine, in a good way).

Just looking for wisdom, passed down from the elders here. Thank ye!

Check your email.   I got one that said they ran out and gave me a option.  If I didn’t respond in 4 days they would send Miss Terious as a replacement.

I have combed through my inbox and junk mail folders, and haven't found any email from them. Will wait until the new year to follow up I guess

  17. My package arrived today, which was great! Less great was that my Miss Deed was missing, and had been replaced with a Miss Terious. I have no interest in this Guild model, and my local Guild player already has 3 of them. Does anyone know who I need to reach out to to get this error fixed? The only 2 bonus models that I wanted were Ross Jebsen to use in TtB, and Miss Deed to use with my Hamelin crew.

Has this happened to anyone else. I went back and checked my inbox and junk mail folder, and there was no communication that they were going to be switching models on me. I would have at least gotten something that I could give to a local player.

My joy of the package showing up quickly turned to confusion when the first model I pulled out was Miss Terious, and then became more and more worried that my full order hadn't shipped. Feeling bummed now, when I should be happy. To make matters worse, I HAD a Miss Deed, but gave it to another player in a very lopsided trade, thinking that I had another one on the way...

Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should/can do? Thanks :(

"Is it worth creating another box for distributors and retailers to stock when the decision only makes things slightly awkward for one Master in one faction and doing so would mean any 10T players wanting Minako Rei would then be forced to buy two different boxes to get full use out of her?"

And the answer to that, as far as I'm concerned, is a resounding "No".

If the decision comes down to  being an issue for players of 1 and a half Masters, or an issue for 8 Masters, then it makes sense to package for the majority.

I think this is the way it needs to be. Are you going to please EVERYONE? No. But you can at least negatively affect the smallest amount of players this way.

Ultimately, it always seems to be the vocal minority. For every TT player that is super happy about now being able to field this previously-hard-to-find henchman (and doesn't say anything about it), there will be 5 players screaming out for injustice because they can't play 1 not-so-playable model, with 1 underpowered master.
