  1. Litany + Decaying is a 4ss upg set that lets you only one slot remaining for upg (means only one between the two limited, blood mark, maniacal laugh and so on, and note that quite every of these increase the number/mobility of corpses or gives Reva beter shot spots: basically this way you're reducing a lot her shot chances). It seems again easier than it is: I have to manage to reach with all of my attacks the master/henchman I want to target without even moving, so I keep all the 3 ap for attack actions; than I have to hit with all the attacks and, even if I'm lucky enough or I have a great hand of cards, having no to dmg flip I'm reasonably going to put 3+3+3 dmg (meaning no master killed).. I can even try with 0 life drain (if I didn't use my 0 to place 5" in contact with a corpse/candle, because I cannot walk if I want to 3 attack), but I need a not-built tome and to largely win the opposite duel (I'm starting to be very very lucky if I do so, like 3/4 very high cards in hands and maybe just one for my opponent). We can keep talking about this for weeks, but it seems to me that theory is a matter and real game situations are another PS: with Oooo glowy swine cursed min dmg is 3
  2. My friend, I think you're making easier than it is. I have to: activate Vincent and move it in a 10" range from Nekima (which sounds like a big trouble for him, as Nekima can charge him just a second after, putting in 2 hits cause the 3" push trigger leaves him still in the 3" Nekima's range if they start btb), or anyway means to expose a fragile model like him; then Vince has to stone for ram, win the Ca 6 vs Wp duel against Nekima. Then it's your turn cause Reva cannot chain activate, so Nekima can simply fly off 3" from a corpse to be safe from Reva's shots. And Reva can summon a candle only at the beginning of her activation, so she can't for example double walk and then summon a candle near Nekima (ignoring that anyway this means only one action left to do with her). And again, Reva could move + 13" threat charge, but I need Los to charge and I can't think about leaving her in the middle of your models easily (than, with only 2 attacks I can't kill Nekima). In an ideal simulation yes, Reva can kill Nekima in one activation, but as we say "there is also the opponent playing" PS: yes, Sonnia with papa can do that damage and many blasts also, and the 3 magic models build for Wong is even more frightening IMHO.
  3. Actually it isn't true: Vincent can make her do this with his 0 action (I think you're not gonna talking about payng 4 ss for litany of fallen + decaying aura), so basically that means every resser can do this by hiring Vincent. And again, honestly do you believe that a range 10" Ca6 opposite Wp duel 0 action without the needed suit built-in is a so crazy unbalanced feature? Just for example, Wong (with the Oooo glowy upg) can actually play with 3 (3!) magic models, namely 2 swine cursed + whoever you want, having a terrific damage output which ignores everything, 3 AP, the stampede-like trigger (also without taking damage), regeneration and a really low ss cost thinking about what they can do... Is really Vincent the balancing problem? Reva is undoubtely powerful, but I can't see where the difference should be between her and Sonnia, Rasputina and even more Wong. Finally, as this thread is about TT, I give my TT opponent opinion: Bettari is dramatically strong, and yes, hiring it means quite surely a dead Vincent (no more push Df trigger and always cheattable 6 dmg hits) or, if you prefer, a serious worry for Reva herself
  4. Premises: I am a Reva player (actually just 2 matches since I got her ready and painted to play), I DON'T want to be in any way unpleasant or to seem a know-all, I'm just interested in a constructive discussion about my new beloved master Now, I read that for some of you Reva should be OP, that playing against her is a nightmare experience, that someone had her banned in his gaming club, that she's nearly unbeatable and if you play her you have to leave apart some good hiring choices just to have a fairer game or stuff like these... then I read that the game we're discussing here had the TT player hiring 3 archers + 1 samurai, that the samurai has been engaged before to shoot for the very first time, that he quite didn't have scheme runners (I don't even know what the schemes pool was, but leave your mark without fast runners and, in general, against Reva seems not to be a good choice ), that he didn't made exhaust VPs even when in condition, that all the archers never focused on rezzer's guy runners - leaving them free to do whatever they would - and so on.. and well, I'm cannot agree. Just my two cents: reading the posts up here, seems clear that there have been various errors in crew building and in-game decisions, that cannot be simply solved in a "BAN REVA NOW" claim, don't you think? Moreover: - just to be clear, if the rez guy hires Emissary + Archie + Vincent it spends 31 + upgrades ss on 3 models, and I honestly don't think it would be a wise choice ; - Reva surely has a massive damage output at a very long range, but IT'S THE ONLY THING SHE DOES, no other functions may be found for her other than making damage, longe range or mobility/short range if you play her Beyond; - Vincent 0 actions (that anyway is great and that I find awesome), is range 10" Ca6 wp duel that requires a not-built suit: I mean, it's surely very powerful, but I cannot agree it's not resistable or anyway a no way out, come on! - Reva's damage, don't forget, is always only on one single model, no blasts. Now, why (as someone said here before), Reva should be OP and Sonnia, Wong, Rasputina etc. are good? - REVA IS FRAGILE: 13 wounds Df 5 and the only healing chance by a non-built attack trigger (2 wd healed) or if someone is killed in 8" (1 wd healed) doesn't seems to me like an impassable wall . IMHO Reva is surely a powerful master, surely more than many other rezzer masters (also remember that before book 4 rezzers weren't said to be exacty between the most competitive factions), but honestly I can't see her unbalanced or OP. I also think it's a matter of her being new-released: we don't know her well, and it's natural we probably couldn't find a good way to counter her: it's only matter of time, then all of these problems will be gone, as with quite every other unbalanced master/model/trick which emerged from time to time
  5. Ok, second game with Reva yesterday and feelings are even better. This time (vs Shenlong) Vincent was the MVP (activating him later in turn, with the opponent having no good cards still in hand, means bad things coming for an enemy henchman ), bearers confirmed first impressions about versatility and toughness, AND finally the emissary made me happy! I gave it another chance, and for the first time I could enjoy it being in the game. I just switched carrion conflux with MLH, granting it more survivability (at least in one key-turn) and the two shards, definetly great both for cover, scheming/strats obstacle and 2 zombies in.. Also the wk bonus reveals more useful than it seems. Overall, the more I play Reva the more I love her
  6. Book 1 or 4 it's not the core of the problem.. the core is that there are models that, for the same cost (or even less) do more things and are better under every aspect than others. That brings to fixed lists imho.
  7. That's exactly what we're discussing in our local gaming club. Sadly (cause I think this leads to a poorer game) fixed list trend is growing fast.. Though the game is studied for the scheme based building, too many times it's simply better (note, in terms of competitiveness and winning chance, non surely in game's depth and appeal) to keep the same fixed list - usually full of big hitters - eventually changing 5/7 SS basing on the strat-scheme setup. The reason? Me and my friends are still wondering about it, but we found at least one: in the earlier phases of the game (books 1 and 2 just to be clear) the overall trend was models having something strong and some weakness, good in doing something but not in something else (for example, fast but fragile, good damage but very slow and so on..) so you had to adapt your crew focusing on the models strong in what THE CURRENT MATCH required, avoiding the ones having their weakness in what you needed. Now it's possible to find models good in everything, or at least for many more tasks, with more strong traits and less weak angles, with an overall higher medium stats than before (ml/sh/ca 6 is the new 5), and ss costs in line to the old ones.. why (again, if you're trying to maximize your crew efficiency) you should not to take'em? And this leads to the fixed crew, good for everything, composed by the models that optimize the ss cost/quality ratio. And it's sad, but it's true... I sincerely hope that as soon as possible there will be a U turn in this approach, that's maybe possible only by acting on schemes and strats to make (if not impossible) at least harder to find utility in semi-fixed lists.
  8. Had my first game with Reva last saturday.. WOW! My first impression is damn good, she's definetly scary, so many dmg with so many range, good mobility, really fun and totally new from other master's gameplay.. love her! I ran: Reva (Guises of Death, Blood Mark, Maniacal Laugh) - 6 SS Vincent (My little helper) Yin (My little helper) Emissary (Carrion conflux) 2 x Shieldbearers Belle Some considerations: - Though I surely want to try Beyond Death, I went with guises 'cause I feel it more fittable with my playstyle, and I found it great! Reva eliminated Lazarus at first turn (Vincent 0 + 3 Reva's shots and 3 VP gained from quick murder scheme): brutal. - Vincent seems to be dramatically important because of his 0 (surely I have to practice and enjoy all his other features): it's like Litany of Fallen + Decaying Aura for Reva, at a good range and for 2 turns everytime (till Vince's next activaction). - My little helper is damn good: card + 0 action + untargetable over 3" seems to me like auto include 2 x everytime I can - Shieldbearers: great! Had little confidence I would have loved 'em but I found them to be so reliable, tough and fast.. very well! - Emissary is the negative note of the day: everytime I play it I find myself unsatisfied about his performance.. I never capitalize from it being in play. This match before to die at the end of turn 2 his only achievement was 2 x mindless zombies with his 0 actions, the first popped just beside a corpse marker (so no benefits gained for Reva's attacks source point) and the second targeted by Wong to blast behind him at Yin and Vincent . I thought it was nearly a must for Reva because of zombie production but I found that it's not that important: candles and guises provides what you need in turn 1, Blood Mark's trigger can always help, and from turn 2/3 there will be more corpse on the table than you need. This said: does emissary worth to pay 10 SS? I'm going to think it doesn't. Maybe another beater could be better, Dead Rider and Archie being my next tries.
  9. Hi everybody, this is to discuss something we're talking about in our local community. We're starting have the feeling that, with the new waves going on and the GG2016 schemes, the game is losing some of its "magic". I mean: many of us think Malifaux is one of (or the) best wargame ever played, mainly because of its randomize schemes/strats/deployment --> compose crew dynamic. Well, the impression is that, if playing in a competitive/tournament oriented scenario, crew lists mainly (or quite exclusively) composed by heavy hitter henchmen / enforcers is going to be always better than a more "traditional" list including a greater models variety. Sure, this consideration is worth only if laying competitive, you can always play just for fun and play manual schemes and every model you like BUT, if you want to play tournament level, well your choice will be always the same 8/10 models, with maybe other 4/5 models switching, and you'll have to play mainly heavy beater "big" models. I don't know if it's because of the centerfield-brawl strats, or just because some models' ss costs are unbalanced, or because many 10 ss models are billion times better than 2 x 5 ss minions, or a mix of all these.. We're just thinking that one year ago we played many more different models than how we do now, and the damage output / killing capacity was very less important than it is now.. So, I'd like to suggest a little modification that could, in my opinion, dramatically change (in better) the game depth, especially in the competitive scenario: MAX 1 MASTER MAX 1 HENCHMAN MAX 2 ENFORCERS per list. That's all. Think about how much this little adjustment can make the game more deep, intelligent and fun! Again, the schemes -> listing mechanism would be maximized. What do you think about it? I hope many of you will tell her opinion and discuss together about the considerations above. Thank you all!
  10. Hi everyone, I'm starting to think about how to proxy Archie, especially focusing on november's UK Nationals and other local tournaments. Something to suggest me? I'm the worst painter/modelist/sculptor ever, so please nothing complex to do!
  11. I was wondering about the corpse candle - Bete Noire trick suggested by TheJoyInGaming: it's actually possible to make Bete Noire, popping out from a candle killed by her 0 action, the target of that 0 action (so having Bate chain activating after the candle?). In other words, candle's 0 action kills the candle and makes you choose between three effects: killing the candle I can pop up Bete but can I also target her with the chainactivaction effect of the 0 action just done by the candle?
  12. So, first of all thank you guys for all your suggestions! I can't wait to try both the Philip/Nurse card factory (Kirai is a sensational card eater :D) and the non-summon/support-focused Kirai. In particular about this last one, just some questions: - Unforgiven can be useful in this build up or not? I didn't play it last game, and I think it finds even less place in list when the focus is no more summoning... Which upgrades you give her? - you hire shikomes or not? I think (as for hanged) that summoning them is far more good than spending 8/9 ss for; - you talk about drowned: my question is the same... you spend 6ss for hiring them or just summon 'em? As you see I'm not used to play summoners so I find some difficulties in listing :DDDD Thank you again for your opinions!
  13. Hi everyone, after some games with other resser masters (mainly Seamus and McMourning) I'm finally approaching Kirai. Actually I played only a game with her, but I have some questions I'd like to discuss with you: - I found Kirai having a beautiful but very difficult games dynamic: Ikiryo pops up only when living or undead models are damaged, but undead spirits are not so common (you just got hanged and shikome - which I prefer summoning rather than hiring, Izamu - autoinclude in my opinion, and Datsue Ba - this one I still have to test before making me an idea if I like her or not), but all the healings and the tricks of the crew only works on spirits... here is a first listing problem; - I have to play in a 6" bubble if I want to maximize Ikiryo menace, but how can I do if I need to spread (think about interference strategy or many marker-based schemes)? Ok, I can try lost love, but he's very fragile if left alone and distant from the rest of the crew ( and if not I'll probably gain only 1" or 2" malevolence aura from him) ; - I used the "spawn point" (i.e. flesh construct + nurse) as a summoning base: do you think it worth for a total 11SS cost??? Except for one or two nurse tricks I have 1/5 of the crew SS left blocked and useless during the game; - I tried to move this way: Kirai summons one Shikome (or hanged) and heals it with swirling aether, often uses the third AP to move and the 0 action for to summon a seishin or to absorb spirits (always from a seishin); Izamu is supposed to bring the damage output; Datsue Ba is a mix of movement tricks/seishin summoning/other tricks with her 2+1 0 action pool (so sad she can't get instinctual!!) but I really can't understand how to capitalize from her; Do you agree with all of this? In substance, I need some help with listing and game strategies! Thank you for every suggestions :DDDD
