wave 5 helped elevate Guild on another level imo and made the gap between top and not-so-top masters considerably closer, plus it gave us 2 models which helped with some of the gretaes problems (Investigators and Quellers).

Latest erratas helped too, LLC for 1 is a big one there, maybe also Guild Guard for 3.

I played Guild exclusively for the last 2 years and imo we where never stronger :)

Wave 5 gave Guild some very nice toys to play with and opened up a lot of new avenues.

He might. He plays a very different game than her and is a better counter to elite lists in my experience. He doesn't like the revised versions of assassinate though since he gives up points easily for that. I've always played a very aggressivr McCabe where he is usually one of the first if my models that dies because he goes all in and tries to draw the maximum amount of heat from turn one or two to let the rest of the crew do their thing. Another player at my club plays him a bit more carefully and buffs other models and throws out the occasional slow instead of charging in.

I really need to get back into playing McCabe, he was my first Guild master, but when I look at him now I just drool a little with no clue on how to start building the crew.  Maybe a good topic to start.

I see a good player play she.

yeah you can put 20 more damage only against an opponent that seeing she take anyway his models all near with each other ....

Sonnia is good but isn’t too much resilient...

And she do a 2/3/5 damage only...with a Francisco tax of 10 points and with a 2 cards discarded each turn for another tax, obligatory.

I’m not saying that she is weak, clearly,I say that for what you pay to make she work, she is’nt too much strong...especially when charged with Mi5 and DF 4...

Well I have been running Sonnia without Francisco for most of the year and she seldom ends up dead (turn 5 a couple of times after she has activated).  I am rather fond of using the nice MI7 with blasts and burning she can now have, and clawing back all those wounds and grab a handful of extra cards in the process.  Suppose you can play it safe and go DF6 but that would not lure people into attacking her.

You've obviously never played against a good Sonnia player if you think her damage output is subpar. Yea she takes some support, but when your opponent has no models on the table come turn 3, that doesn't matter a whole lot

I guess Sonnia has not got the best single target damage out put that is not her thing, it is those blasts that blanket the opposing crew and if you can add a dash of burning to the mix it is a regular night out at "Sonnia's BBQ & Grill".

  4. @Fazza92 It sort of reads like the grass is greener on the other side.

Something has changed in Guild this year, Francisco is no longer that must have model and has some serous competition for his place in a crew.  Guild Guard at 3ss is just great and a pair of them have been responsible for more than a couple of my wins this year.

As for most of the Guild masters not being competitive, well most of the time this all comes down to the player TBH but the only master I have not been seeing competitively is McMorning.  Personally I have had good results with Sonnia and Dita this year along with Nellie, my next test is to see how well I can do with Lucius in a tournament.

In regards to card draw you need to look at the Guild counters, Witchling Stalkers, Witchling Handlers & Guild Austringer.

  5. I can see why a lot of Gremlin players are disappointed, this is not in the same league as the Dark Carnival, The Wild Ones, Curiosity Killed the Cat & the Alternate Rasputina crew boxes.  But it is a rather fun and quirky box with a theme that no other crew comes close to.

  6. Now when I first set eyes on this it just brought a smile to my face it is defiantly original and very well done but I can see why a lot of Gremlin players are disappointed.

This is not in the same league as the Dark Carnival, The Wild Ones, Curiosity Killed the Cat & the Alternate Rasputina crew boxes.

I would have loved to see a 1940’s gangster style Ophelia crew or a 3 Musketeers inspired Brewmaster crew, the Spanish Inquisition comes to mind for Wong.

This is one of those crews that I would not be disappointed in finding in a Large Mystery box at an event though.

It was the ‘spooky kids’, that won this time. The dreamer is heading my way with Doppleganger, stitched, widow weaver and the twins.

Dipping your toe in Neverborn I see, have to admit it is not a crew that appeals to me but it is fun to play against.

I would just recommend "not the Viks" because I find them incredibly boring to play against. But that's just like, my opinion man.

What do you find boring about games against the Viks?  I've not played against the Hired Swords for about 6 months or more.

  9. You already have a good chunk of guild by the looks of it so maybe adding Sonnia to the mix, good excuse to get some Thalarian Queller’s and Witchling Thrall’s.  Keeping in theme with the Witch Hunter thing I always like to run a Witchling Handler and all the models in the M2e starter set are Witch Hunters also.

The new stat cards arrived some weeks later, but were hold up in costums, where I had to pay more than $ 31 to get them released (the cards only cost $ 15). Thus incl. shipping, I ended up paying more than $ 70 for $ 15 worth of stat cards.

That is harsh and sort of puts a dampener on the game a little, I would like to see Upgrade stat card decks available so our LGS can stock them.

Now I have all the cards on the app but when playing a game I still much prefer to have the cards on the table and it is much nicer to have a card with the correct information on it so if my opponent want to take a look at what I am doing.

    Hi!

I've been playing Malifaux for a few months now, first with Sonnia and now with Nellie. The thing is she is supposed to be our strongest master but I don't know how to improve my game with her. My typical list is something like:

Nellie - Misleading Headlines, Delegation, Guild Funds

Francisco Ortega - Wade in, Lead Lined Coat

Phiona Gage - Transparency, Lead lined Coat

Ryle - Numb to the World, A debt to the guild

    2x Guild Guard

    Printing press

and then a queller, a watcher or a reporter depending on schemes and strats.

What I use to do is to move my beaters and give them fast the first turn, the second one they try to smash something but after that I don't know exactly what I should be doing with Nellie. As my beaters are fast they try to move charge so they are quite far away for Nellie to help them or there are no enemies in range, things like that. What are good uses for Nellie on the mid turns?

    Thanks!

I am assuming that your current crew list is not working out for you?

Personally I never take Francisco with Nellie anymore, I would much rather put in the Jury or Dade in his place.

Never tried Ryle (maybe because I do not have him) so no real idea if he is good, bad or ugly.  I would recommend at least one Austringer in your list, Deliver Orders is darn handy and the mask trigger on Raptor.  With Sonnia being your other master I am guessing you have Witchling Stalkers that should not be overlooked with a MI6 with a nice crow trigger and condition removal (that seems a key part in most games now).

Now this may not suite your play style but hopefully gets you thinking of things you can do.

  12. For me it is rule of cool when I start something new but I tend not to use anything that is not fully painted, ascetics first and could not care if it sucks in game.

So why do you want to start out with Nellie, is it the idea of running around saying bad things about people to drown them in their own tears.  Maybe it is the play-style of the crew or simply the ascetics.

Yes thanks! I like Lucius play style but my choice is between McCabe (that ispired me a lot) and Nellie ( that is the Guild master most played in our meta)...

We if your meta is drowning in Nellie that would prompt me to run McCabe.

Beginner play. Nellie always has several options to consider and that makes her not a learning master. The point about her entire box being valuable is sound, but the new player will still have a VERY LONG game counting Nellie powering up with evidence and deciding every activation about something else.

Remembering that this player already has Sonnia, Lucius & Hoffman.  So the choice of next Master is between McCabe or Nellie.

So though Lucius is cool he already has this master hence why we are suggesting adding Nellie’s crew box to the mix.

Nellie needs multiple-step combos in order to shine and she needs to think about her powers every activation, even enemy’s ones (does she use that defensive push now???). Lucius, strange as it feels to say it, really is the less complicated, newbie-friendly pick as long as he has plenty of minions alive for issue command.

All very true, I was thinking about the models with the Reporters & Phiona being good models regardless of master.  I sort of find Dashel rather lacking (maybe I just need more Guild Guard) and cannot fine a place for him in my lists.

If you are new to war games or Malifaux go with Lucius.  He can be good in some pools.  The thing he does no other model can do is put out the interact while engaged aura.  You can easily get Search the Ruins last turn.

Nellie is a top tier competitive model and probably the best Guild master.  She can do so much.  Propaganda, Hot off the presses, Delegation, activation control, card draw, move models around.  Great in most pools.

I’m a fan of both and played a lot of Lucius, Nellie is superior but I’d start off with Lucius first.

Lucius is a great master now but you will need to take a look at his errata cards as he and his totem have changed quite a bit.  Still think Nellie is a stronger box to start out with though.

And I have an not quite usual choice, Hannah. You will love it after you have experienced 8 hands with Hannah and Nellie or Lucius. Thought we do not have many good non-master Ca action to copy with. I always pair her with Phiona for the second stone, or sometime for the placement.

Often toyed with the idea of throwing Hannah into a Nellie crew, thinking outside the box maybe a Librarian is worth taking a look at.

I actually hate the original McCabe box, but the build difficulty of that box is what has kept me away from it (even though I have friends that have offered to help.)

I am rather skilled at building models and often get roped into help build or put right models, that said this box is still daunting.  I could easily sell it on and make a profit, all in the box and on the sprue but that would sort of be chickening out.  That said the wife said I should keep it (she is a Malifaux addict so I bet she has her eye on something and will use this a leverage to get it).

McCabe do have the niftiest nightmare box, which is reason enough to start him - if you can lay your hands on it.

And if you like very involved model assembly.

Just got my hands on the box last night due to the fact that its owner could not face the prospect of building it.  Guess it is my problem now LoL.
