  1. That is correct. However, Born Of Fire allows you to place a single Pyre Marker when Kaeris kills something with Immolate, so it would take more to set up and/or is more situational, but, you could still do what ENinja suggests that way.

Oh, and another option you have is to take both Grab and Drop and Blinding Flame - Grab and Drop a model onto a building, within 3" of the building edge, place Kaeris up there with it, on the other side of the model from the building edge, then cast Flaming Halo, and trigger Blinding Flame to push the model off the edge of the building, thereby inflicting falling damage on it (if the building is taller than ht 2)!
  3. It's always worth Grabbing and Dropping! There is something else you can do with respect to Grab and Drop and buildings, though - elevation differences are added to horizontal distance when checking range for melee and engagements - so, by placing the Grabbed and Dropped model at one elevation, and Kaeris at another elevation, you can break engagement between the two models!
  4. No, the falling damage comes only from the duel difference, not from any difference in terrain elevation.
  5. I'm currently using a set of 10 transparent bases for scheme markers, and I've yet to need them all, however when I ordered some acrylic markers, I ordered 12 as I like to have more than I'm likely to need!

  8. The game is indeed very good, and the models of very high quality, and, yes, it is far better that models are held back for quality control reasons than not. However, not all the 'May' releases were held back for that reason, and as for cutting them some slack, I don't think anyone is not doing that. All people are doing is expressing their frustration at not being able to get those models that should have been released in May, and their wish to have a clearer idea of when they might be able to get them. These are not unreasonable feelings and wishes to have or to express.
  9. Page 44 of the rules manual: Models moving off elevations and falling suffer no damage if the fall was 2" or less. If the fall was more than 2" the fall deals 1 damage per 1", or fraction thereof, fallen. Example: A model that falls off of a Ht 4 cliff would suffer 4 damage. A model that falls from a Ht 6 cliff but lands on a Ht 3 surface would suffer 3 damage. So, yes, if Kaeris exceeds the target model's duel total by 2 or less, when performing Grab and Drop, the target does not suffer any damage, but, if she exceeds the target's duel total by more than 2 then the target model suffers damage equal to the amount she exceeded it by, up to a maximum of 6.

Yes, it will take a different amount of time to get to different retailers, but the vague 'July' is coming from retailers - which suggests that their suppliers don't know when they'll get it, and presumably they don't know because the people in the chain above them don't know either, and so on.
  11. Sure, but it's gone from a specific date (today) to 'sometime next month'. If the stuff was in the supply chain already then you would have thought they could be more specific than that.

  13. If you/your opponents don't mind proxies, The Firestarter and The Captain both have good synergies with Kaeris, Fire Gamin, and Gunsmiths. As do the already mentioned Rail Golem and Metal Gamin. Also, Rail Workers from the Ten Thunders Rail Crew set should also work well. That said, I'm really struggling with the Kaeris crew lists I've tried, so you may wish to take what I say with a pinch of salt. My next purchase for the crew is likely to be the Ramos set, to bring in Joss and the Arachnids.

Was looking through my Arcanists Arsenal Deck and I noticed that some of the Upgrades have the Restriction 'Frozen Heart', however none of the Arcanist models have that as a Characteristic, though some do have it as an Ability. So, do other Upgrades have restrictions that are Abilities rather than Model Characteristics, or is this an error?

  17. Thanks for the comments all. I'm going to address a number of the points posted in this one post rather than replying to them all individually. Firstly, regarding the suggestions for various models to try, for friendly games I want to keep my crew(s) as fluffy/thematic as possible, so, with Kaeris I'm only looking at M&SU and Foundry for the moment. In time I might expand beyond that, but not just yet. What I am considering is getting hold the Ramos set, to give me another master to try, as well as Joss and the spiders. Then, beyond that, I'm not really sure. Secondly, with regard to not setting up models too close to each other - the reason I did that was partly terrain and partly the buffs the Rail Golem with Bleeding Edge Tech would give to the Metal Gamin and Rail Worker, as well is the potential for the Metal Gamin to buff the Rail Golem or Rail Worker with Metal Protection. That, of course, never happened, because the Rail Golem died too quickly, but I don't see how I can get those buffs to work when I've also got to get up to 50mm to 110mm of model base through gaps in the terrain. Thirdly, though I now know deploying so far forward was a mistake, I'm not sure deploying further back would have made much of a difference - he could have just brought Rasputina and the Acolytes forward and still have done the same thing! But, fourthly, I don't want to get to bogged down in analysing this one single match - I've played about 8 games now, I think, and I've only won one. It feels like there's some key thing I'm missing, or some fundamental aspect of the game I'm just not getting, because in every game I feel like my opponents have just been able to do whatever they want, they always have the cards, whereas I don't, and I can never get anything to work. It's getting to be really frustrating.

  22. And it didn't go well. It was a 50ss game, we flipped Close Deployment, Reconnoiter, Protect Territory, Plant Explosives, Spring The Trap, Bodyguard, A Line In The Sand. We both chose, and revealed, Protect Territory and A Line In The Sand. I went with: Kaeris -- 4 Pool +Arcane Reservoir [2] +Blinding Flame [1] +Grab and Drop [1] Gunsmith [7] Metal Gamin [4] Metal Gamin [4] Rail Golem [11] +Bleeding Edge Tech [1] Rail Worker [5] Rail Worker [5] The Firestarter [7] +Powered by Flame [2] He took: Rasputina -- 6 Pool +Cold Nights [1] +December's Pawn [2] +Shattered Heart [3] December Acolyte [7] December Acolyte [7] Ice Gamin [4] Ice Gamin [4] Ice Golem [10] Sabertooth Cerberus [9] He won deployment, but gave me first deployment and I know I probably made a mistake here by deploying too open and too far forward, because he then positioned his Acolytes in LOS of my Rail Golem, and Rasputina in range of them. By the end of Turn 1 both the Rail Golem and one Metal Gamin were dead. By the end of turn two I had Kaeris, the Gunsmith, and one Rail Worker left, and that was it. At which point I conceded because it was clear there was no way I was going to score enough VPs to even draw, let alone win. I'm not really sure what I did wrong, if anything. I just couldn't keep anything alive. He decided to kill something and then it died. And there was nothing I could do to stop it (and believe me, I tried everything I could think of).
  23. Exactly. To use the Crew Creator to get a list of Mercs you need to first know which models are, or are not, Mercs!
