  1. I told my people that they had to make a choice (because otherwise they'd have no deck...) but that they could change that choice if it turned out to be a stupid choice in hindsight. I didn't like that at character creation you had to have a good idea of what triggers you'd need after 4-5 level ups. I was worried enough about getting everyone's characters built! 2 months later, no one has taken me up on it. I expect that once I introduce the skill triggers in Into the Steam, I'm likely to hear a little more.
  2. Funny that I come on here to talk about my app, mere hours after Moosey is seen for the first time in ages! http://geeksong.com/Malifaux/ For those who use my thing, I've just pushed an update to the website, which includes... Wave 3 models and non-Campaign upgradesAdded a "Campaign Mode" to the crew creator. This:Properly calculates the total, including Henchman and Master costs.Hides "W/max pool" and "Pool" as they aren't useful in Campaign counting.Changed how Mercenary works. The extra 1ss is automatically included if you add a Mercenary who doesn't share a Faction with your Leader.Previously I had this stupid clunky "Mercenary" upgrade you had to add which probably wasn't clear at all...Added "Tormented" to Crooked Men, since it was missing.I'm starting a Campaign, so I'll probably do some more updates as I need them to play my game. Let me know if you see anything that isn't right! The Android app won't be updated for a bit, until I'm sure the web app is correct.
  3. Ok, this is important -- should I ask people for names? Because i work near a cruise ship port and there are a ton of people asking for directions every day!!
  4. Is it weird? Feels weird. Like going back in time to tell yourself not to eat the eggs because you'll regret it.
  5. Ooo...did they get out? I'm pretty sure that at some point my folks are going to end up down there really soon. They've starred down into it every time they've walked past it so far. Part of me wants to give them some way of destroying it...because I know they'll take it and learn a valuable lesson about grasping at whats put in front of them.
  6. I asked yesterday if any FateMasters had any thoughts on how to craft a 5th adventure, wherein the Fated explore The Well. I started writing some stuff, but I'd love to hear what anyone else is doing, because my stuff isn't making me super happy about it. (also, I noted that we should possibly consider use of the Spoiler tags so that future people don't get spoiled!)
  7. The webstore was certainly a lot better than previous years! I have 2 comments of a less awesome variety: Shipping was miserable. $45 to ship 4 books to Canada? I get that books are made of heavy dead trees, but that's a little painful in a world of Amazon Free Shipping over $100. I cut down my order because I had to give that much money to the shipping company, as opposed to giving my money to Wyrd. That was the cheapest option - the most expensive was $65. There doesn't appear to be any Cancel button on the webstore. I did my order, then because of shipping wanted to combine my order with some friends. I couldn't Cancel, so I contacted Wyrd CS. The nice lady and I had a conversation about it, but every option I had was "your order won't go out until everyone elses is done". So I made the choice between a late order and $45 of shipping and decided I wanted my books sooner rather than later. An automated Cancel option would have allowed me both. Looking forward to my heavy dead trees!
  8. This crosses nicely with another topic I was struggling a bit with -- Assume 10. In this case, could my Fated just Assume 10, and get the 11+Tomes needed to cast it? So I could just tell him that he Assumes 10 every hour? But then have Dramatic Times carefully positioned so that they happen immediately on the hour every time so he has to flip a card to use his Construct when it actually matters? Or at this point, I could also have DTs happen just past the hour and then he has an entire hour to use the Construct before he needs to cast it again, then he doesn't need to worry about the spell anymore?
  9. Ok, this construct thing is really kicking my ass. One of my players is a Tinkerer with a Ht1 Construct. My understanding, is that he needs to use Animate Construct to make it go. AC lasts for 1 hour, without the Increased Duration Immuto. So every time I figure an hour has passed I need him to cast this spell again? Otherwise, he needs to carry his construct because it can't move itself. That seems pedantic. So I tell him that he doesn't need to do it. I'll figure something else out. Another Fated of mine, in the nicest way possible, tells me that he's taken the Increased Duration Immuto for just such a reason. So now I'm favouring one over the other, which I don't like. How are you guys handling this? I don't want him (or me) to have to care about animating it constantly, so I was thinking of having him cast it whenever he wants to use it for something - spying, or attacking or whatever - and just assume it's cast and animated otherwise.
  10. I'm not super happy with it. The sheets are glossy paper and are hard to write and see pencil writing on them. Pen is good, but who does an RPG with pens? I've encouraged my folks to use pen and to use as many character sheets as possible as I have so many of them, but they insist on using pencils. The DMs screen is pretty nice, and I'm glad it has a bunch of useful tables on it, but I could have printed out the last 2 pages of the Fatemasters Almanac for the same information. I don't have anything that needs hiding behind a screen either. I'm using it as a hard surface to write notes on while we play.
  11. One of my guys made this recording as part of his TTB backstory, and I wanted to share it with others because I think it's just so badass. Particularly for a guy who's never been invested in the Malifaux setting before now! https://www.dropbox.com/s/h5xb6j3h52ai4tg/The%20Arrest%20Of%20Clive%20Rathbone%20Recording%202.mp3?dl=0
  12. Thanks everyone, this is good stuff. I do remember the Hoffman story (his are my always my favourite!) but even that story didn't sit right with what I knew of how magic users are treated. It felt like a special case was being made for coolness. Which I support, but needed to figure out how the world reacts to it (because...I'm playing the world, as FM )
  13. This is a fluff question. In Malifaux, the Guild "controls all magic". Or at least, they want to. People who aren't under their control who display magical ability, are brought under their control or are killed. Animated constructs are a thing that exist. It isn't clear if they are common place, or fall under that "Guild controls them all" category. If you have a Dabbler, that Dabbler can choose whether to shoot a fireball in a fire fight or not, and risk being outed to the Guild. A Tinkerer with an animated construct either carries that construct around with them in a backpack (hopefully it's not Ht2! Even Ht1 will be a pain...) or risks getting caught by the Guild at all times? Starting to play In Defense of Innocence, so it may not matter as much with the town not being under Guild control (yet), but wanted to have an answer for my Tinkerer friend.
