  1. Alright so instead of just talking about it, I have now altered my own painting blog with an altered title and a disclaimer in the top of the first post. Could something like this work? http://wyrd-games.net/community/topic/102512-ikvars-painting-adventureplease-criticize-me-a-lot/
  2. Glad you think that way, I also thought I could do a bit more as there were so many gray colors on the mini On another I was just altered the title a bit and made a disclaimer in the first post, and I will just copy/paste it here to make sure everyone sees it ^^ Disclaimer: I truly want people to criticize me all they can, I still have a long way to go, but I fully intend to win a Golden Demon in a couple of years. To do this I need your help! So please help me get better, and be as harsh as you want to be. As long as it is constructive, I welcome all critisisme!
  3. And that is exactly what I mean, you wont get better if you just keep doing the same, repeating the same mistakes every time. This might sound a bit harsh to some of you, but in the end I honestly think you are doing people a disservice when you call something that looks like it have gotten a single coat of paint on it, and dumped down in a bucket of wash, and then other people call it a masterwork. Of course I wont go to the picture and just say it is horrible, neither of us would get anything positive out of that. I will normally say something like "really nice colours you have chosen! but if you want to make it even more awesome, you could try to paint another layer of paint after the wash, to make the miniature a bit more clean"... but even that people get offended from. Its not like I would go to such a miniature, and start telling him to do NMM, or how he should use glazes etc. But anyway, as I said before maybe we just need to make our intention with the painting blog we make more clear, by writing it up front in the title or something
  4. Thanks for all your comments, I can truly see what you guys mean about the whole "artist vs gamer". I still dont fully agree with what it has become though, as a community that is afraid to criticize and learn, is a community that will never evolve and move forward. For me being on the artist side of the hobby (sounds really snobbish to say that O_o), standing still in my "art" means death... well in a more abstract kinda way anyway I think its sad when you have some of the best artist on the side like Mako, saying that he dont even dare to share out of his wast knowledge, then you really have a problem. ... maybe we should have a rule to write something like "criticize me" in the title, so everyone on the art side of the hobby, know that they can go there and talk with like-minded people, who actually want to improve and all that? This way people wont even have to ask if they want to be criticized.
  5. This is something that have been bothering me for quite a long time, but something just happened on the "A Wyrd Place" FB page, that I really need to write this. I have often been a bit miffed with how sensitive a lot of people are in the miniature painting community, not just here but also on other miniature sides. Basically the feeling I get is that you are only allowed to say "omg that is so awesome!", and any other comments are not really allowed. The very few times I dare to write anything, I usually start out with a nice comment, and then in the most diplomatic and nice way, point out something that would make the figure look even better. Or maybe just give my random thought about the miniature, but always in a polite and diplomatic way. But no matter how careful I try to be, I would say about 80% of the time, my comments will either be ignored completely, or get a very negative and aggressive response. Before I started this hobby a little over a year ago, I have been both drawing and painting pictures, and were active in both of those communities. And I have NEVER experienced those kind of behavior there, quite the opposite people were mostly more happy to get pointed out what they could do better, then "just" another nice compliment. Anyone else that have noticed this aswell, or have I just been unlucky? - or maybe you even agree with this behavior, and I just need to learn to hold those thoughts to myself?
  6. I cant find the size of the model, but it could be such an awesome alternative young and smexy Zoraida ^^ https://www.facebook.com/thirdmanstudio/photos/pcb.717431488352054/717431351685401/?type=1&theater
  7. Haha, you are so right about his face ^^ It was actually the first thing my gf said when she first saw it, especially with the lips. The truth is I am a bit... "scared"(for a lack of a better english word^^) because as I mentioned earlier in the thread, there are a lot of faults in the sculpt of his face, such as no lips or any other definition other then his eyes actually. But I will return to Graves a bit later, for now I am having fun with Killjoy Btw did I go overkill on his base like with some of the comments with Gracie? - I had so much fun with the blood and water effect, that I kinda forgot about the whole "keeping the base simple" O_o
  8. Can we get an official answer if this was a mistake, or if it is indeed the correct size?
  9. A little update on Mr. Graves: I would say he is about 75-80% done at this point, still need to clean up a lot of lines and transitions, and all the nmm. The camera had some problems with all the shiny effect from the sewer water etc, so it is not showing all to well in the pictures sadly :/ What do you guys think about the veins on his arm? - I have never done it before, and I am not sure exactly how to do them... I should have some updated pictures of Lilith soon, and I have also just begun work on Killjoy
  10. Okay I did not expect her to be that small... why does she cost so much then? Any chance that she is actually not supposed to be THAT small, and that it is a size issue with the Chinese manufacturer again?...
  11. I am considering taking Killjoy with the aforementioned crew, instead of Mature Nephilim. The reason is to get the other largest model in the game, and painting a giant target on Killjoy instead of Nekima. The thought is to let Killjoy have one side of the board alone (both to flank and avoid friendly fire^^), and charge him as fast as possible up the board, while the rest of the crew will take advantage of the chaos left behind him. But is the 2 extra SS worth the cost, and will it be a waste of the Obsidian Talons? I have not played with either a Mature Nephilim nor Killjoy before, so what are peoples general thought about choosing one of them?
  12. I have only played with Tannen one time, so this is not as much a trick, but just in regards to your comment that Tannen dies easily- dont ever take him against a crew with lots of shooting! ^^ I had Tannen in my last game against a gremlin Gunline, he was not able to do anything what so ever, I might aswell have given myself a handicap of minus 6SS in the beginning of the game ^^
  13. The reason for all the nephilim models is not anything fluff or thematic for me though, its to maximize the Obsidian Talons upgrade. I have also been thinking a bit about using a BB shaman with all the nephilim models, but I had him in my last crew for Nekima support, and I hardly think he did anything- at least not anything to justify his 7SS. What are you guys experience with the BB shaman?
  14. After I have tried many models in separate games now, I am slowly starting to have few favorites, and I thought it could be fun to try and gather most of them in a list. Neverborn Crew - 50 - Scrap Lilith -- 4 Pool +Beckon Malifaux [1] +Living Blade [2] +Wicked Mistress [1] Primordial Magic [2] Doppleganger [7] +Nexus of Power [1] Mature Nephilim [11] +Retribution's Eye [1] Mr. Graves [8] +Obsidian Talons [1] Nekima [13] +Fears Given Form [1] +The Mimic's Blessing [1] If its a scheme heavy game, I would either drop Doppleganger or Mr. Graves in favor of a Silurid... so do you guys think this would in any way be a competitive list? Oh and a little update with Nekima as the thread is all about- I had one of my first games with her (played her a lot in beta, but not so much after that). I choose to play her with Lilith, and was up against a Sommer crew with the summoning machine and a gunline... she killed 4 bayou gremlins, francois and a slop hauler before she was finally focused down by the rest of his crew. But by that time, the rest of my crew was in place and had earned VPs, and my opponent gave up

  17. Thank you so much for all the nice comments everyone, and a special thanks to MACHIAVELLI for such detailed comments. Its always nice to see that all the details I put into my figures does not go unnoticed I am also really happy that some of you guys even like my style, it was quite a hard path to choose in the beginning, when everyone around me kinda hated it. But remember that you are also more then welcome to give some negative criticism, even if it is only minor problems... of course I realize that it might be a bit hard to do, seeing as most of it is WIP ^^ But the pictures themselves at least, you are more then welcome to criticize- as I mentioned before, how should I choose the colours of the backgrounds in future pictures, are the pictures big enough, are they zoomed in on the figure enough etc?
  18. I am truly sorry for the lack of updates, however, as I have said before I am still kinda new to the hobby. And shortly after I posted the last thing with Lilith, I kinda hit my first wall with my head first(I think thats how you say it in english?^^). A bit after I found out that my problem was not that I did not want to paint, I was simply tired of painting so long on the same model. So instead I have started a new strategy- I paint whatever I want to paint, and then I come back to the models I have not finished at a later point. I will never want to speed-paint, or paint something that I think is "just ok", but instead I will have multiple projects running at the same time. This also means that there will be a lot more WIP stuff in this blog, as I wont always finish what I have just started, before I do something new. On another note- I have finally finished my small photo studio, so it should also be easier for me to take good pictures without to much of an effort I am currently working on Lilith, Baby Kade, Miss Ery, Barbaros and Mr.Graves. As a fun little game, I thought I would let you guys have an impact on what project I should focus on. I might not do exactly as you guys want to, but at least it might encourage me to paint a bit more... but I guess we will see if there will even be an interest in this ^^ This is what I am currently working on, and remember it is still very much WIP It sadly seems like there was a fault in the sculpt at his mouth... as he simply have no mouth what so ever ^^ - so atm I have simply painted a line so I know where it is supposed to be. I would love any kind of comments on it, if you just remember it is still WIP. And I would also love some comments on the photo itself- both the size, how much it is zoomed in and the background, as I am also still learning to take miniature photos. I am most uncertain with the colours I have choosen as the background- do there need to be more contrast between the miniature and the background?
  19. Alright so after some reading it seems like Zoraida is the best support master for Nekima, simply because she is not a minion so many of the other master wont be able to do much for her. Obey however will work really well at setting her in a good position, and helping her kill some stuff. This is the list I have been thinking about: Neverborn Crew - 50 - Scrap Zoraida -- 4 Pool +Crystal Ball [2] +Hex Bag [1] Barbaros [10] +Fears Given Form [1] +Nephilim Gladiatus [1] Black Blood Shaman [7] Doppleganger [7] +Depression [1] Iggy [5] Nekima [13] +Fears Given Form [1] +Nexus of Power [1] As always this is just a general list, and Iggy and Doppleganger would be the first to swap out if needed. This way I will have the BBS to focus support on Nekima and Barbaros, and have Barbaros use his Challenge if Nekima needs help, and Gladiatus if she is doing fine. You will also have Doppleganger to copy Nekimas attack for some heavy dmg or whatever is needed. And Iggy will ofc be filling the voodoo doll up with fire
  20. I really like this discussion as Nekima is a model I really want to use, and even more as I will be getting her for Black Friday ^^ Some of you have already talked a little bit about it, however it would be awsome if we could get a bit more focus discussion on the matter- which master is the best with her? For me it seems like the best master is someone who can support her, but as I dont play a lot with support masters, I dont know which to choose. As far as I know, we have lucius, Zoraida and Collodi... and to some extent The Dreamer? So what could these different masters do for Nekima, and who would do it best?

  22. Greetings everyone! I really like the new models for Lucius and his crew, however I simply refuse to play Guild, so I would like to hear how he plays as Neverborn. I have never played him, or played against him, so I have no clue what crew he would normally play with, or what kind of playstyle he have. So if anyone could enlighten me a bit, it would be very much appreciated
  23. We were a bit uncertain how exactly stake a claim works, do you always need to use the 2ap to place the marker, and then the discarding of the makers within 6 is just a bonus. Or do I just need to use a 1ap interact action like with all other scheme markers, and only use the 2ap action if I also need to remove some enemy scheme markers?
