  1. New to the game and looking for some confirmation on my understanding of "target." Based on the definition in Malifaux 1.5 p. 19, an effect is only considered to target a model if it specifies "target." So a model may be affected by effects that do not target it, even if those effects require you to select that model, e.g., Desperate Mercenary's A Last Noble Deed does not target anything. Area effects may affect and even damage models without targeting them, such as most auras and pulses. Similarly, blasts have one target, and any other models affected by the blast are NOT targets. Do I have this correct?
  2. A quick question regarding Hamelin the Plagued and his Black Staff. The weapon entry reads: "When this Weapon inflicts Weak damage, this model suffers 2 Wd. Models wounded by this Weapon gain one Blight Counter." Does this mean that if Hamelin inflicts Weak damage, he suffers 2 Wd from the Black Staff, and therefore gives himself a Blight Counter?
  3. A few thoughts and some follow-up questions: A model is considered the defender whenever an attack is being resolved against it, with "attack" defined on Malifaux 1.5, page 21, which includes anything requiring an Opposed Duel or a Resist Duel. 1) So does Immune to Influence (and Stubborn, for that matter) also apply to other simple Wp Duels that the defender in an attack might be forced to make? e.g., Madame Sybelle's Shriek spell ("If the target is a living model it must perform a Wp>11 Morale Duel after suffering damage."), or Hamelin the Plagued's Haunting Melody Trigger ("After resolving this Weapon's Damage Flip, the defender model must win a Wp>this model's combat total or gain Insignificant until the end of the Encounter.") 2) Regarding Immune to Influence vs. Stubborn, does Pandora's The Box Opens remove Immune to Influence (which provides immunity to Wp duels), but not Stubborn (which just provides a bonus)?
  4. Thanks! These picks will be a big help.
  5. I just picked up the new alternate Executioner sculpt, and I really like the model, but I've run into a major problem with assembly: Where the heck does the cable for his left arm go? I cannot find any configuration of either cable where it can sensibly attach to his backpack and his left arm. Image searches have turned up no photos of the assembled model - can anyone here with an assembled model post a picture so I can have some idea of how he is supposed to fit together? At this point I'm about ready to replace the supplied cables with parts from my bits box.
  6. Thanks, this means I probably will be able to build a Kirai crew that actually functions.
  7. Terminology issue that I have not been able to find an answer for, and just want to make sure that I understand: "Killed" and "Sacrificed" appear to be discrete game terms. While a model that is sacrificed dies, and is removed from the game, it is not considered "Killed," correct? So any game effects caused by killing a model, or by a model being killed, would not go off? e.g., Kirai Ankoku's Sprit Anchor goes off when an appropriate model is killed within 8" of her, but would not go off from a model being sacrificed. Following on that, a Seishin's Fragile Connection ability means that if killed, it counts as being sacrificed and thus does not actually count as being killed. So if Lady Justice uses a Greatsword Strike to kill a Seishin within 8" of Kirai, neither LJ's Inspiring Swordplay or Kirai's Spirit Anchor go off. Do I have this correct?
  8. Okay, so when ItI says "defender" it means defender in the general sense of "subject to an attack" rather than "Defender" as outlined in the rules for Duels on pp. 28-29 of Malifaux 1.5. Correct?
  9. Hi! New to Malifaux, and after going over the FAQs and discussion here there are a few things I'm still not clear on: Immune to Influence states "This model is immune to Wp Duels when it is the defender." From my reading of the rules, it appears that a model is only the "defender" in a duel when it is being acted on in an opposed duel - such as the Attack Duel from Candy's Wail. So Immune to Influence would not grant immunity to any simple Wp Duels that the ItI model would be called on to make, such as those required by Terrifying (a simple duel against the Terrifying value) or using Wp for a Resist Duel (a simple duel against the caster's Casting Total from the simple Casting Duel). But here and elsewhere, I've seen people refer to ItI models as immune to any spell that uses Wp as the Resist stat, while still not immune to other effects that require them to make a simple Wp Duel (again, like Terrifying). Is this correct? It does not make any sense given how ItI and the rules for Duels are written.
