  1. It was either a gloss or semi-gloss, but I'm pretty sure I used gloss. The effect looks even better than it does in the picture, looks almost like a glowing lens-eye-thingy. Main thing was to make sure to get enough clearcoat in the hole so that it made a bubble out of the hole, and paint the inside edges of the hole the same color as the outside border, and just put the color at the bottom. That way the "eye" follows you as you turn the model. Something I did that I really like also, I put some wires on the back of the steamborg. They were black wire that I just bent and glued in place... really easy, and that seems to be the bit that everyone notices about Hank. (And for some reason the camera makes the paintjob look like ass at the super close-up... picks up way too much contrast or something).
  2. Ramos First: Spider Swarms are magnetized, I only included a few for the pic. and Rasputina: Lilith: There's a few tots and young missing from the pic. There's a set of flesh-toned nephalim, and a set that grow from light grey, to dark grey, to black. and Saggy boobs last: I'm really pleased with Zorida herself, I did the voodoo dolls on her model to look like other characters in the game (Seamus, Judge, and Killjoy on the pot; Ramos and Justice on her back... and the Avatar has Lelu, Kirai, Jack Daw, and a mystery black voodoo doll that I realized I forgot to paint once I took the picture). and a few close-ups: (close-up of Jack Daw and Kirai on the back of Avatar Zorida) (custom teddy belly cuz I really, really didn't like the carebear heart) (the custom large arachnid cuz I didn't like the smokestack or the buzzsaw on it's face... although I did put the smokestack on my brass arachnid, which I think looks better) (and the eye of the electrical creation, cuz I really liked how it turned out... done by painting the inside of the eyehole blue, then I over-filled with my brush-on clearcoat and made a bubble)
  3. I generally use zap-a-gap superglue... and hit it with some zip kicker in tricky places. Holds well if you can get a good hold (wiggling while it's drying is very bad... and if you glue over paint, the paint will break off before the glue will; i usually try to scrape off the paint where i'm gluing if I don't glue before painting). I usually don't bother with pinning either. There's only a few of my models I'd consider especially fragile (and from listening to the guys at my store, that's saying something with a Ramos crew). Also, green-stuffing the joints seems to add a good bit of strength.
  4. Yea, very cool. Very nicely done. I second (or is it third) the request for a tutorial... maybe you could just build one more and take pics at stages and talk about materials/techniques. It'd be simpler than a blog and people could still get a good idea how you pulled these off. And I know what you mean on the feeling that your stuff isn't as good as everyone says. The people at my game store things my minis are painted amazingly well, whereas I'd call most of them just above average (although there are one or two I'm proud of). But after years of seeing Golden Daemon minis, perhaps my standards are skewed.
  5. Yea, the orphanage bases look really nice when painted, but 3 of the guys at our game store have them for at least one crew each... I'm kind of looking for something more unique. @Demonn - I'm not sure how I would make a swamp shack flooring really look any different from a regular wood floor. I'm pretty good with green stuff and custom work (especially if I can see a pic of something to get the idea in my head well)... but I don't have and good ideas. Maybe I should also add that the Nephalim are on black rocky bases with lava bits and giant stone-looking spikys. (I really need to take some pics and get uploading).
  6. Hi Bill, Just saw your yellow torikage... those are awesome. I do like the yellow.

  7. I'm trying to base a Zorida crew (Well, Zorida/Avatar and a few models to add to an existing Lilith/Nephalim crew for my wife. Obviously Zorida and her voodoo doll went on swamp/woodland bases (without water, they're basically the same IMO)... But the wicked dolls, teddy, and weaver widow I'm having problems with. I don't really want them on the swamp bases so that they can go with other crews (Most likely the Dreamer). I guess my question is what would be a good base for Nightmare/Woe models. I thought about cobblestone, but that's kinda boring (plus I'd probably use it if I ever picked up any Guild crews). I'm drawing a complete blank here, help a guy out.
  8. Yea, I certainly didn't expect that sort of response. It is awesome that they at least seem to browse their forums.
  9. It's not a difficult issue. It's a nit-picky issue. There seem to be a lot of those that pop up here and there though. I was just trying to get a solid answer that couldn't be argued (which, I feel like dgraz just provided for both the randomizing issue and the Lilith issue).
  10. I understand that covering the slot isn't really a big deal. It's just a minor thing I thought I would bring up in case no one had thought of it. I do understand that from Wyrd's side of thing they would have to make new molds and I'm sure that's not a simple thing. I just don't see what it would hurt to have the option of buying bases slotted or solid. That way the people that prefer the bases as is could buy slotted bases, and the rest of us wouldn't have to bother filling the slot. (And with the new translucent bases a no slot option would be especially nice).
  11. I would really like to see 30mm and 40mm black bases without the slots produced. For those of us that custom base our minis (which seems to be a large portion of players), we don't use the slots or the tabs on the bottom of the minis themselves. Slotless bases would make doing your own bases much easier, and I know, personally, I would buy slotless exclusively over the slotted bases, as would many other people I'm sure. I know there's a lot of people on the forums that would like to see the new translucent, colored bases done slotless (and smooth on the underside would be nice as well). I would actually consider buying them if I didn't either have to purchase additional inserts or deal with the odd look of a partial slot left to deal with. Just something to think about. Thanks And for everyone else, if you agree with me, say so and maybe Wyrd will give us this small convenience. (And I suppose if you don't agree this would be the place to say so as well...)
  12. Dude, I never realized that there's no height listed. I would assume 5 since pretty much everything manufactured by abilities are 5 (the only exception I can think of is a Ht 3 blast marker).
  13. That is what would make sense; but according to how I read the posted rules, that's not how it seems to be. Can you tell me where your answer comes from that overrides the ignoring LoS not also ignoring cover in this case. (And yes, exactly what I was thinking Paddywhack)
  14. It doesn't address my issue in that thread though. It does say that new targets benefit from cover; but it doesn't say whether that overrides the "everything that ignores LoS ignores cover" rule. Something else that came up that I haven't found. Are the two Ice Pillars considered a single entity for breaking them, or does a single cast drop two separate pillars? It seems from the wording that it would be two; but from the way Ratty's markers for them are shaped, they seem to be one entity, just two bases in size.
  15. For a friendly game, I would say if you're firing into melee and re-target to something that you don't have LoS to, that cover would apply; since the action of firing (or casting or whatever) doesn't ignore LoS, it simply hits something unintended. And the fact that your target happens to be out of LoS shouldn't deny them the cover that they would have if they were in LoS. With that being said though... it would be nice to get some sort of ruling from the voices on the mountain since none of us mortals seem to have the answer, only speculation.
  16. I was mostly being sarcastic about changing factions. I love my Arcanists too much to drop them.
  17. Ok. That makes recast triggers much less powerful, and abilities that require a flip to target much more powerful... Maybe I should switch my faction. (And I did find the bit in the book about models not being used for cover. It's exact wording is in my summary above^
  18. Another Summary of what has been resolved and what hasn't. And I'm bolding things that aren't yet resolved. 1. When firing into melee, do you have to make checks for abilities such as Zorida's Proper Manners (on the new target, not the original)? 2. Do harmless models count as engaged in melee (or otherwise untargetable enemies)? Although, I would assume paralyzed would still count if they were pulled in by another model's threat range? 3. Can a new target benefit from cover (and if the new target is not in LOS, does that count as cover)? What that doesn't clear up is models out of LoS. Unless the rule from the FAQ "Everything that ignores LoS, also ignores cover" applies here. If so, seems crappy that a random re-targeted model gets cover unless it is out of LoS... in which case it gets nothing.
  19. Quoting the book (1.5, p41): "The attacker declares the target of the ranged attack, and then flips one Fate Card for the target and each model in the target's melee range" (doesn't say enemy model) "as well as each enemy model engaged with the target regardless of LoS to these models." (Assuming it means LoS between the shooter and the shootees, since models can't be engaged without LoS). Also, in the diagram example on that page, a flip is made for a friendly model (to the target) that is only involved because it is within melee range of the target and is otherwise not engaged. I haven't seen anywhere where this has been ruled on. Yes, this is a pretty straightforward situation, and I agree completely.
  20. But they appear to have the blocking trait when dealing with LoS, which would imply hard cover. I haven't seen anything that says specifically that they don't. & Say I'm playing Ramos vs. Lilith: I have a single arachnid that Lilitu has lured into base contact but not killed (unlikely I know), then I activate Ramos and cast Electrical Fire at Lilitu. Do I really have to flip for the 3 terror tots that are standing 3" behind Lilitu in addition to her and my little spider simply because Lilitu could possibly hit them with her whip if she wanted (they're clearly NOT engaged since they could move freely without having to make any disengaging checks)? It seems like the 3 tots would fall into the "no melee to begin with" rule. Seems like Lilitu is getting shafted because she only gets +1 Df for the 1 enemy model she is engaged with, but somehow the tots are pulled into the engagement. Either that or anytime I fired into a line of enemies I would have to flip to see who I hit (due to their overlapping melee ranges) regardless of whether or not I happened to have one of my models somewhere in the area. ---------- Post added at 01:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:58 PM ---------- Ok, I just found this in the "Resolved Issues" thread: What that doesn't clear up is models out of LoS. Unless the rule from the FAQ "Everything that ignores LoS, also ignores cover" applies here. If so, seems crappy that a random re-targeted model gets cover unless it is out of LoS... in which case it gets nothing.
  21. Ok, summarizing to make sure I have everything right 1. When firing into melee, do you have to make checks for abilities such as Zorida's Proper Manners (on the new target, not the original)? 2. Do harmless models count as engaged in melee (or otherwise untargetable enemies)? 3. Can a new target benefit from cover (and if the new target is not in LOS, does that count as cover)? 4. Which model's melee range do you use to determine if it's engaged in melee (say my target has melee rg3, but everything it is engaged with only has melee rg 1...or the other way around)? But, According to the book (1.5 p41 in the little black box), friendlies within an engaged model's ranged are flipped for as targets, even if they're not in range of an enemy to be in any melee. Unless this has been errataed, it would seem that, for example; if I had a model with a 1" melee range in base contact with say, Lilitu and only her in my model's range and shot at Lilitu with another model, would I flip for everything within 4" of her (this doesn't seem right since it would make her 4" melee range a huge disadvantage in this situation)? 5. If a target does not have LOS to something that is engaging it, do you still have to flip for a target? (like, if Lilith was on the opposite side of a wall from one of my models, could I target my model and hope to hit her through the wall?) (So I could potentially target Lilith completely through a wall?) (Not Firing into Melee Section): 6. Does Bulletproof apply to spells with the or only strikes with ranged weapons? And does firing as melee with Gunfighter count against Armor or Bulletproof? (I thought Ausplosions was pretty clear) 7. If Channeling a spell and the action results in multiple casts of the spell (Overpower trigger for example), do the new casts gain the benefit of the Channel, or just the original cast? (Are you sure, because that would be really badass with my Rasputina 8. If you are not within 1" of an intervening terrain object that obstructs LOS, is there any cover or is it treated as an open shot? (So obstructed LoS is treated the same as full LoS unless you're within 1" of the obstruction using the terms as the book puts it... seems like a useless term in that case)(And if so, the Devs have never fired a gun or played paintball) And additions to original post: 8.5: Would a friendly model (within 1" if that is required for cover) provide cover; and if so would it be hard or soft? (And obviously not talking about a friendly model that is completely blocking LoS.) 9. If you're firing into melee and end up firing at something that should get hard cover, does it get the Armor +1 or absolutely no benefits from cover at any time when firing into melee? [sort of the same as question 3, but rephrased a bit... it just really bothers me that random targets might not get the harder to be hit for cover but do get to use abilities to make them hard to target (question 1) when you still have to make an Attack flip to see if you even hit them.]
  22. A few questions that have come up here and there. 1. 5. If a target does not have LOS to something that is engaging it, do you still have to flip for a target? (like, if Lilith was on the opposite side of a wall from one of my models, could I target my model and hope to hit her through the wall?) And a few other random questions... 6. Does Bulletproof apply to spells with the or only strikes with ranged weapons? And does firing as melee with Gunfighter count against Armor or Bulletproof? 7. If Channeling a spell and the action results in multiple casts of the spell (Overpower trigger for example), do the new casts gain the benefit of the Channel, or just the original cast? 8. If you are not within 1" of an intervening terrain object that obstructs LOS, is there any cover or is it treated as an open shot? Thanks guys. Edit: I suppose a better way to word my actual question 8: If you have partial LoS to your target (the book calls it obstructed), but you are not within 1" of the intervening object do you get cover or is it treated the same as full LoS? And 8.5: Would a friendly model (within 1" if that is required for cover) provide cover (and if so would it be hard or soft?)... and obviously not talking about a friendly model that is completely blocking LoS. Back to firing into melee: 9. If you're firing at something that should get hard cover, does it get the Armor +1. 10. According to the book (1.5 p41 in the little black box), friendlies within an engaged model's ranged are flipped for as targets, even if they're not in range of an enemy to be in any melee. Would this mean that, for example; if I had a model with a 1" melee range in base contact with say, Lilitu and only her in my model's range and shot at Lilitu with another model, would I flip for everything within 4" of her?
  23. Ok, thanks. I'm assuming by that logic that 2 regeneration auras would be redundant then, since both would give Regeneration 1 to the activating model and not stack.
  24. So hills would be considered open but water would not? Or open terrain as in bare table?
  25. For Nekima's Throw Aside trigger, what is considered "terrain"? Would something take the damage from being pushed into a sloped hill or water? Or would it have to be something more solid like a wall or tree? Also, can a model push another model through itself (her Meat for the Young trigger for example)? Since engaged models are supposed to be moving around a bit (the reason you can hit the wrong target with ranged even if you don't have LOS on it).
