  1. It was either a gloss or semi-gloss, but I'm pretty sure I used gloss. The effect looks even better than it does in the picture, looks almost like a glowing lens-eye-thingy. Main thing was to make sure to get enough clearcoat in the hole so that it made a bubble out of the hole, and paint the inside edges of the hole the same color as the outside border, and just put the color at the bottom. That way the "eye" follows you as you turn the model. Something I did that I really like also, I put some wires on the back of the steamborg. They were black wire that I just bent and glued in place... really easy, and that seems to be the bit that everyone notices about Hank. (And for some reason the camera makes the paintjob look like ass at the super close-up... picks up way too much contrast or something).
  2. Ramos First: Spider Swarms are magnetized, I only included a few for the pic. and Rasputina: Lilith: There's a few tots and young missing from the pic. There's a set of flesh-toned nephalim, and a set that grow from light grey, to dark grey, to black. and Saggy boobs last: I'm really pleased with Zorida herself, I did the voodoo dolls on her model to look like other characters in the game (Seamus, Judge, and Killjoy on the pot; Ramos and Justice on her back... and the Avatar has Lelu, Kirai, Jack Daw, and a mystery black voodoo doll that I realized I forgot to paint once I took the picture). and a few close-ups: (close-up of Jack Daw and Kirai on the back of Avatar Zorida) (custom teddy belly cuz I really, really didn't like the carebear heart) (the custom large arachnid cuz I didn't like the smokestack or the buzzsaw on it's face... although I did put the smokestack on my brass arachnid, which I think looks better) (and the eye of the electrical creation, cuz I really liked how it turned out... done by painting the inside of the eyehole blue, then I over-filled with my brush-on clearcoat and made a bubble)
  3. I generally use zap-a-gap superglue... and hit it with some zip kicker in tricky places. Holds well if you can get a good hold (wiggling while it's drying is very bad... and if you glue over paint, the paint will break off before the glue will; i usually try to scrape off the paint where i'm gluing if I don't glue before painting). I usually don't bother with pinning either. There's only a few of my models I'd consider especially fragile (and from listening to the guys at my store, that's saying something with a Ramos crew). Also, green-stuffing the joints seems to add a good bit of strength.
  4. Yea, very cool. Very nicely done. I second (or is it third) the request for a tutorial... maybe you could just build one more and take pics at stages and talk about materials/techniques. It'd be simpler than a blog and people could still get a good idea how you pulled these off. And I know what you mean on the feeling that your stuff isn't as good as everyone says. The people at my game store things my minis are painted amazingly well, whereas I'd call most of them just above average (although there are one or two I'm proud of). But after years of seeing Golden Daemon minis, perhaps my standards are skewed.
  5. Yea, the orphanage bases look really nice when painted, but 3 of the guys at our game store have them for at least one crew each... I'm kind of looking for something more unique. @Demonn - I'm not sure how I would make a swamp shack flooring really look any different from a regular wood floor. I'm pretty good with green stuff and custom work (especially if I can see a pic of something to get the idea in my head well)... but I don't have and good ideas. Maybe I should also add that the Nephalim are on black rocky bases with lava bits and giant stone-looking spikys. (I really need to take some pics and get uploading).
  6. Hi Bill, Just saw your yellow torikage... those are awesome. I do like the yellow.

  7. I'm trying to base a Zorida crew (Well, Zorida/Avatar and a few models to add to an existing Lilith/Nephalim crew for my wife. Obviously Zorida and her voodoo doll went on swamp/woodland bases (without water, they're basically the same IMO)... But the wicked dolls, teddy, and weaver widow I'm having problems with. I don't really want them on the swamp bases so that they can go with other crews (Most likely the Dreamer). I guess my question is what would be a good base for Nightmare/Woe models. I thought about cobblestone, but that's kinda boring (plus I'd probably use it if I ever picked up any Guild crews). I'm drawing a complete blank here, help a guy out.
  8. Yea, I certainly didn't expect that sort of response. It is awesome that they at least seem to browse their forums.
  9. It's not a difficult issue. It's a nit-picky issue. There seem to be a lot of those that pop up here and there though. I was just trying to get a solid answer that couldn't be argued (which, I feel like dgraz just provided for both the randomizing issue and the Lilith issue).
  10. I understand that covering the slot isn't really a big deal. It's just a minor thing I thought I would bring up in case no one had thought of it. I do understand that from Wyrd's side of thing they would have to make new molds and I'm sure that's not a simple thing. I just don't see what it would hurt to have the option of buying bases slotted or solid. That way the people that prefer the bases as is could buy slotted bases, and the rest of us wouldn't have to bother filling the slot. (And with the new translucent bases a no slot option would be especially nice).
  11. I would really like to see 30mm and 40mm black bases without the slots produced. For those of us that custom base our minis (which seems to be a large portion of players), we don't use the slots or the tabs on the bottom of the minis themselves. Slotless bases would make doing your own bases much easier, and I know, personally, I would buy slotless exclusively over the slotted bases, as would many other people I'm sure. I know there's a lot of people on the forums that would like to see the new translucent, colored bases done slotless (and smooth on the underside would be nice as well). I would actually consider buying them if I didn't either have to purchase additional inserts or deal with the odd look of a partial slot left to deal with. Just something to think about. Thanks And for everyone else, if you agree with me, say so and maybe Wyrd will give us this small convenience. (And I suppose if you don't agree this would be the place to say so as well...)
  12. Dude, I never realized that there's no height listed. I would assume 5 since pretty much everything manufactured by abilities are 5 (the only exception I can think of is a Ht 3 blast marker).
  13. That is what would make sense; but according to how I read the posted rules, that's not how it seems to be. Can you tell me where your answer comes from that overrides the ignoring LoS not also ignoring cover in this case. (And yes, exactly what I was thinking Paddywhack)
  14. It doesn't address my issue in that thread though. It does say that new targets benefit from cover; but it doesn't say whether that overrides the "everything that ignores LoS ignores cover" rule. Something else that came up that I haven't found. Are the two Ice Pillars considered a single entity for breaking them, or does a single cast drop two separate pillars? It seems from the wording that it would be two; but from the way Ratty's markers for them are shaped, they seem to be one entity, just two bases in size.
  15. For a friendly game, I would say if you're firing into melee and re-target to something that you don't have LoS to, that cover would apply; since the action of firing (or casting or whatever) doesn't ignore LoS, it simply hits something unintended. And the fact that your target happens to be out of LoS shouldn't deny them the cover that they would have if they were in LoS. With that being said though... it would be nice to get some sort of ruling from the voices on the mountain since none of us mortals seem to have the answer, only speculation.
