  1. I f it was me I would take: Seamus - 2ss Cache Madame Sybelle w/ Grave Spirit - 7ss x2 Rotten Belle - 8ss That gives you two tuff as nail models, and you can pretty much activate the whole crew in one go if they are spaced right which can be situationallt useful. It will be tricky against non-living/construct armies, but they won't have many toys to play with either so Seamus 50. should be able to deal with anything 'big' at this points level with relative ease, just keep some decent cards in your control hand specifically for him, as you don't have many soulstones to play with.
  2. What master do they sync best with? My first guess would be Kirai because they are spirits, but according to PullMyFinger, she can't do movement shenanigens with them (correct?). Also, I would guess they would be good with Seamus as you could lure things into them, and also its some potential ranged damage. Although for Seamus it may beg the question Crooked Men vs Drowned? I can't see them helping Nico or McMourning much though.
  3. Hey everyone. I eventually plan on branching out from Seamus and McMourning to getting a fully fledged Kirai crew. I pretty much know what I'm looking for with her list, but the one thing I'm undecided on is: Is her Avatar Any Good? I looked up Pullmyfinger, and whilst somewhat informative, it didn't really help me decide whether or not the Avatar is a competitive choice for Kirai. What do you guys think?
  4. I'm thinking of starting Kirai myself. You don't need to buy Onryo seperately as they come in her starter box. I too favour dropping the night terrors. For a starter 25ss List I would go: Kirai - 4ss Cache Lost Love - 2ss x5 Seishin - 10ss Datsue-Ba x1 Onryo In reserve waiting to be summoned x1 Shikome, x2 Gaki, x1 Ikiryo. That should be more than enough to get you started with her IMO.
  5. I know the feeling. When I first got interested in Malifaux I went out and bought several crews and now regret it. Maybe you should do what I did. Pick the faction you like the most and collect all their models and crews. That way you have loads of custimisation options and tactical set-ups for tournaments but alot less models. I'm sticking firmly with the Ressers, knowing that when I bought a set of Crooked Men for Seamus, I could get use out of them when I use Nico, or when I buy Onryo for Seamus, that's the first stage of a Kirai crew, etc etc. I find that helps alot both financial and in terms of space.
  6. I wouldn't use McMouring as a summoner per se. Yes he can summon alot, but really all you'll ever want is a Flesh Construct and a Rogue Necromancy. Sebastian can make more Canine remains and guild autopsies aren't that useful. He belongs just slightly behind the front lines, but he is better in the thick of the action using Scalping Sling, Dissection and other goodies. I'd say in all honesty you will be summoning once or twice per game, and there are alot of strategies to summon on the first turn, and leave it at that. Also, if your running McMourning I wouldn't bother buying the Seamus boxset yet, and instead devote all your energy (and money) towards building a solid McMourning crew. I made the mistake of buying several crews, and in retrospect, I wish I could go back in time and just buy things necessary for fielding one specific crew, but with multiple options. Edit Also, you should only really need one Flesh Construct (rarely two) and definately only one Rogue Necromancy. Don't forget about his Avatar though. I've never seen it used, but reading about it, it seems like it could be very useful, and besides, it completes his theme .
  7. When choosing Schemes for Seamus which ones would you rate as easiest to hardest? I haven't tried them all but so far I'd say: Bodyguard = Easy: I only play small 20-25ss games, so if Seamus dies then its an uphill struggle anyway, so keeping him alive is already part of the plan. Its not necessarily easy in the sense that he is easy to keep alive (although he is pretty tough), its more that I feel you don't have to do anything you normally wouldn't do to achieve this scheme. Frame For Murder = Moderate: This is actually not too bad, I just make Sybelle the recipient and my opponent is forced to take her out with something other than a nasty master (Lady Justice is common in my gaming group). This can significantly increase her survivability as it means she is partly immune to a high damage model. The only problem is, if you announce it, obviously it is considerably hard to force your opponent to kill you with his Master willingly. Grudge = Moderate: Again Sybelle for the win. Select an enemy minion (preferably a relatively weak one) and either get it into melee OR Shriek. Do not forget Shriek! My Little Friend (Personal) = Very Hard: Ugh, getting CCK to reliably take out a SS7+ model OR a Master or Henchmen is a pain, and is really difficult IMO. It is lots of fun though lol. Those are the only ones I've tried with Seamus so far. Anyone else want toadd their ideas, and feel free to respond to my own evaluations if you disagree (or agree ) with them.
  8. I think the core of any McMourning list is always: Starter Set x2 Canine Remains (4 dogs total) Zombie Chihuahua Rogue Necromancy That gives you a nice starting crew, and then you can just experiment with different models to fill any holes you feel are there. Also don't forget to try out his Avatar.
  9. I'm not a Nico player, but I prefer the first crew alot more than the second.
  10. I disagree. If they were 4ss I would always take x2 Rotten Belles and x1 Dead Doxy to start any Seamus list. It the fact your paying extra for a model that doesn't do much of anything that a normal Rotten Belle couldn't do just as good. After starting the thread on the subject, and listening to peoples responses they seem to be good if you get the right cards, hence 4ss would be more than a fair price, 5 is too much to ever include them off the bat IMO. But I bought a pack so I can summon them from time to time and for thematic purposes (plus the models are great).
  11. Obviously this thread is entitled Night Terrors vs Crooligans ... oh wait.
  12. You have a couple of models I'm actually looking for: Canine Remains, Bete Noir, Grave Spirit, Molly and maybe a few others, if you had a couple of photos, maybe I could make an offer for a group of them.
  13. I'm not trying to be daft, but what is its specficrole? As far as I can see its not doing anything all the time, but is situationally useful, but then again I have yet to play test them (I ordered a pack over 10 days ago ... sigh). I can't see many circumstances, objectives or schemes (bar summoning mid game) where it would be better to spend 5ss on a Deady Doxy, rather than: 1. Onryo (biggest competitor in my book, and a much better 5ss investment for Seamus) 2. x1 Rotten Belle and +1 to Seamus SS cache. 3. x1 Crooked Man and +1 to Seamus SS cache. 4 x2 Canine Remains and +1 to Seamus SS cache. 5. Depositing the 5ss doirectly into Seamus SS cache. Am I wrong, because reading all the responses I still have no real solid grasp on how this model is supposed to work tactically. (But then again I am new to the game, just keep that in mind lol).
  14. Well spotted, my mistake, I have yet to actually use Graveyard Spirit (I use CCK for theme + fun). So I'll take out that part. Like I said, I have been playing for all of 6 weeks lol so I'm not an expert, I was just getting the ball rolling. Edit Also don't forget, my goal with the post was to simply narrow down model selection for people. So if I have missed any useful models or have added ones you think don't sync well, feel free to amend it. The only one I could think of as being possibly overlooked in Dead Rider, but for 10ss I don't see how he would be a solid investment for Seamus as he is quite hampered as he has to sacrifice a large crew in order to build up a ss cache as he starts with a measly two. Anyway, I think once we have established that things like Flesh Constructs or Guild Autopsies don't work with Seamus crews then more knowledgable players can fill in the details.
  15. I'd love to contribute to a new (and improved!) Seamus Tactica, even though I've been playing him for less than two months, and am not the most competitive of players (I prefer stories, themes and fluff). Anyway, with that in mind, I think the best way to start any new Tactica would be to narrow down which models are best used in conjunction with Seamus as your master. So far based on my own experiences and from what I have read online, any Seamus player should basically choose from these models when constructing a crew. This is not a tactica on these models and there uses, more the first steps in deciding which models are available for selection when building a Seamus crew. Hopefully better minds will go into more depth about each models uses, or you can just head over to the Malifaux wiki. Anyway: MASTER Seamus (Obviously) -Just keep in mind that he has a low starting ss cache of just 2. So you pretty much need to save around 3-4 soul stones that you would normally spend on his crew in order to amend this. Also, he is not a natural 'resser' in the sense that unlike any of the other big three (McMourning, Nico and Kirai) he doesn't do a whole lot of summoning as he needs really high crows to pull it off. So if your into creating lots of models Seamus is definately not your chosen Master. Instead think of him as more of a finesse or situational summoner. HENCHMEN Molly - If playing bigger games Molly seems like an auto include for many people, and she is also a thematic choice as she is tied to Seamus in the fluff and is also a Belle and so takes advantage of Seamus' buffs. I haven't played her yet, so cannot comment, but I read that she can ressurect Madame Sybelle??? If this is true that is incredibly useful as Seamus cannot as Madame is Unique. However, that aside she still has a number of abilities that work well with Seamus and his Rotten Belles. TOTEMS Copycat Killer - Thematic for Seamus crews, and somewhat useful thanks to its carrying another handcannon (50. Flintlock). I doubt it is a really competitive choice, in fact I know it isn't, but that isn't to say it cannot be useful at times. Also it is worth noting that it is a mandatory choice if you ever want to take Seamus' personal scheme as CCK needs to kill a model costing 7ss or more in order to gain the VP. Graveyard Spirit -The most commonly chosen Totem for Seamus crews. With the ability to add 2 Armour to any model it is attached to, use that models spells and being unable to be sperately targeted, this totem basically turns one model (in an already very survivable crew) into a tank. Its must commonly taken on Madame Sybelle or Hanged as it makes these models really resilient for a mere 1ss. So in a sense you spend 1ss to protect your 6 or 8ss investment. AVATAR Avatar of Dread - I'm still pretty new to the game, but one thing I realised early is that not all Avatars are necessarily better than the Masters that they replace. However, Seamus has been blessed with an Avatar that is great and has very few disadvantaged after its activation. The only thing I can really think of in fact is that Seamus loses access to any reliable ranged attacks (he loses his 50. Flintlock), and also, if you need to reach certain models to deliver messages or assassinate them it can be annoying as they tend to run away from his Terrifying 14. MINIONS Rotten Belles - The Bread and butter Minion for Seamus. They are arguably one of the best minions in the game for their cost. They don't hit very hard at all, but they are amazingly good at manipulating enemy crews movements and moving very fast towards any objectives themselves. Madame Sybelle - Sybelle is also a Belle and so syncs up with all of Seamus buffs to Belles, and also possess a few of her own. Basically, with her in a Seamus crew, they gain extra movement shenanigens and can literally slingshot Rotten Belles all around the board. She does pretty decent damage in a crew that lacks offensive punch, and her 12" range Shriek attack is really underrated. Dead Doxy - Another Belle model introduced for Seamus. I have a little trouble understanding how to use them effectively, but Seamus can summon these girls and reading on online, they can prove to be very useful. Caninine Remains - Sure they don't look like much on paper, but for 2ss these models are welcome in almost any ressers crew. They have a number of quite useful abilities, actually lose their insignificant status when there is more than 1 of them, and have a couple of companion tricks. Also, and why I love them, is they drop corpse counters, so Seamus can turn their 2ss into 4ss Rotten Belles or even 5ss Dead Doxies Crooked Men - I actually read a story where Seamus was working with some Crooked Men, so that makes these a fluff choice in my book. Also thanks to the Belles ability to manipulate enemy model movement they sync great with a Seamus list. They are also have decent survivability and add some much needed offensive oomph to Seamus crews. Bete Noir - If she was ever altered so that she became a Belle I think I would wet myself. That aside, being a Lady, she works thematically with Seamus. That aside, she hits like a ton of bricks and more than justifies her 9ss cost as she is invincible if you have the right cards and has amazing offensive abilities. The only downside is she is useless when facing spirit of contruct armies, which in fact, reflects Seamus as well as he doesn't particularly like things that are immune to WP duels. Hanged - I haven't used these myself but people rave about their usefulness with Seamus. I'm not sure looking at them, that they are necessarily worth their 8ss cost + 1ss for Graveyard Spirit (which is the standard competitive combo). However I can see how they sync up with Seamus as they manipulate enemy Wp and also have a really nice spell that halves the enemies number of wounds, and means they cannot heal for the rest of the game ... period! I may have to look into these a bit more now that I think about it lol. Onryo - For me these are a fluffy choice as Seamus loves the ladies, and who is to say they weren't a Geisha at the establishment of ill repute that Seamus payed a visit too? The horrors they constantly revist could be reliving the night Seamus came into their lives. Anyway, I love these models, they have a decent ranged attack, have some nice defensive buffs, but more importantly they have an ability which allows models normally immune to Wp duels, to be effected by them which is great for Seamus and his Terrifying ability. Anyway, this was just a conversation starter, written hastily whilst at work, so forgive any errors. But feel free to use it as a simple beginners template for simple beginners like me . If anyone would like to contribute to, or add, or subtract models from the list, or maybe even say a little more about each of the choices (my experience is limited), then maybe this could be a great start to an iin depth Seamus tactica.
  16. Well Grave Spirit is easily the most popular choice, in general terms at least. I think that people may prefer different models based on looks or syncing with a particular Master, but in terms of sheer competitiveness it seems hard to be the 'good ol faithful' Grave Spirit, turning one model in your Crew into a Tank.
  17. Thanks for all the responses guys. After re-reading them all I think the general consensus is that Dead Doxies are situationally useful. Therefore, because Rotten Belles are much better at multiple situations, they should be chosen first when building a crew. However, should the oppurtunity arise, having a couple of Dead Doxies available to be summoned if Seamus manages to get his hands on a high crow and corpse counter is a useful reserve. Overall, looking at the models that sync with Seamus I can't really see why a Dead Doxy would ever feature at the opening of a game; Bete Noir, Hanged, Onyro and even Crooked Men are just too useful and would be a better investment. I think that maybe, based on the responses of this thread (hardly scientific but still) that maybe Dead Doxies might benefit from either a simple 1ss decrease or maybe a rules amendment which gives them a more specific role. What do you guys think?
  18. As someone who plays exclusively ressers I'm pretty happy with the Ressers sections ... however ... my one suggestion would be to link in picks of the models when they are available. Carrion Effigy, Crooligans, Datsue-Ba and a whole host of others have no pic of the models included in their tactica sections. This might sound like a really small complaint, but I tend to choose models based on looks, then go read the rules to see how they play, and it would be great to be able to go to each unit and see the models rather than having to look them up seperately.
  19. Hi guys, thanks for all the responses. I'm not sure which method to use, so I'll probably dabble in all of them to a degree and just see what works for me. I'll post up a couple of pics of the finished product to let you all see how your advice helped. Again, thanks alot!
  20. Hey everyone. I'm just curious as to whether or not Malifaux was your first tabletop gaming system or not? For me I got into tabletop games via Warhammer 40k, and after playing that for nearly 10 years now, I just happened to come across Malifaux by chance, and quickly became a convert because of how cheap the game is to get into, how much character it has and finally, the fact you can cheat cards in order to activate things (no more ones on a dice for me!). Also, over the years I've begun to get really sick of Games Workshop, their price increases, incredibly stupid fluff alterations (Necrons and Blood Angels ... really?) and the fact they have levels of secrecy that make the CIA, MI5 and the KGB look like amateurs. So, anyway, ranting aside, I'm just curious if anyone else came across Malifaux after years of paying other systems and how it compares to your first one, or if its the only tabletop game you've ever played?
  21. Hey everyone. As someone who has fallen in with the resser gangs of Malifaux (after a few nights playing with Seamus' Ladies ...) I was just wondering what the rest of you ressers think is the best totem? For me it has to be CopyCat Killer. I think that in terms of all-round competitiveness CCK is probably not as good as a Grave Spirit or even as symbiotic with Seamus as Kirai's and her Lost Love or Mcmourning and his Zombie Chihuahua, but nevertheless, I just can't resist the idea of the little Seamus running around with his giant flintlock gun. Plus, its priceless seeing an opponents face when he actually manages to blow something really expensive off the board! Finally, in terms of looks, I think the model is definately the best, and for me, is the best thematically when taken together with a full Red Chapel crew. Anyway, enough of my opinions, what is your favourite resser totem and why?
  22. Hey everyone. I was just wondering if anyone with experience painting Rotten Belles, would have a recipe for painting a Rotten Belle's flesh using Games Worksop Paints? I've managed to successfuly paint living human models easily with Tallarn Flesh, Elf Flesh etc, but I'm really stumped when it comes to deciding what colour to paint the Seamus' Ladies of Ill Repute. Any ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated, and as I said, I have too many Games Workshop paints to afford to buy completely new sets, so it would be preferable if I could use those. Thanks.
  23. Thanks for the help guys. I was tinkering around with a hypothetical 25ss Seamus list (I'm running McMourning atm) and had come up with: Seamus Madame Sybelle w/ Grave Spirit - 7ss x2 Rotten Belle - 8ss x1 Dead Doxy - 5ss x1 Onryo - 5ss 2ss Cache (scarily low for Seamus he really needs a buff to 3 or 4) But now after reading all your responses I'll opt for: Seamus Madame Sybelle w/ Grave Spirit - 7ss x2 Rotten Belle - 8ss x2 Onryo - 10ss 2ss Cache (still scarily low for Seamus) Onryo are just too good for Seamus as they add some much needed oomph to his crews attacking power, and have a debuff spell that removes immunity to wp duels so that syncs well with Seamus terrifying ability. Although two might be overkill at this ss level, and I might drop one for a better ss cache as I find Seamus really needs alot of them. Finally, do you guys think Dead Doxy's will ever get an update to make them more competitive? I think even reducing them to 4ss and leaving it at that would make them alot more appealing as you could take two Belles and a Doxy for 12ss, but as it stands they are 1ss more expensive than Belles and Crooked Men who are better together, and only 1ss less expensive than Madame Sybelle herself! Lol.
  24. Hey everyone. I was just flicking through the list of options available for a Seamus crew and I came across the Dead Doxy. I have never seen one, bar the model, so have no real idea what it is supposed to contribute to Seamus' crew. So I went over to the Malifaux wiki, and to be honest. I'm still none the wiser. Has anyone ever used these? I had originally planned to summon one in any games I used as Seamus, just because a Belle is 4ss and a Doxy is 5ss, but as I have begun to understand that Resurrectionists really need their models to perform well at a specific task, I am just wondering what tasks these models could fulful that a normal Belle couldn't? Do any of you guys use them in your Seamus crews, or are they worth summoning ... basically how do you use them lol? (cuz the models are cool at fit Seamus theme well IMO).
  25. After looking at the list I don't think a Crooked Man would be any use because I have no way of pulling or manipulating enemy movement in my crew. However, after going over to the Ratty's Crew Creater and looking at ll the options available for 3ss ... what about a Desperate Merc? I have never used one before, but it should be fast enough to keep up with Sebastian and the dogs, provide some shooting support and then die at the beginning of turn 4 leaving a Corpse Counter for Sebastian to either raise another dog or pass it onto McMourning. What do you think?
