  1. 2 Quick questions that just occurred to me. I played a game last night where I took reclaim malifaux as one of my schemes and Zoraida as my master. Could I have obeyed enemy models to (1) interact with pieces of terrain to reclaim them? In the same manner, if I had Slaughter and I obeyed enemy models to kill each other do I get the points for that?
  2. The more I play Zoraida, the deeper I fall in love. Raven for a 20" flight in turn 6 followed by an invisible servants is the most amazing thing ever. I love, love, love how freaking tricky it is. This is my first battle report and it's done from memory. I think I'll start taking notes in the future so just bare with me for this one! Thanks! My Neverborn Crew: Sexy Z Voodoo Doll Ophelia LaCroix Francios Lacroix Silurid x2 Stitched Together His Perdita Crew: Perdita Ortega Enslaved Nephilim Santiago Ortega Nino Ortega Guild Austringer Samael Hopkins I had: Deliver the Message Bodyguard (announced) Reclaim Malifaux Opponent had: Claim Jump Round up (announced) Raid (announced) Battle Report in non-chronological order (sort of). The game sort of played out like 2 seperate games. In one, I was trying to run all over the place and declare the lovely countryside mine in the name of Neverborn. In the other, the kin I brought along couldn't forget the feud they'd declared against the Ortega Clan (originating when they'd tried their salsa once and decided they much prefer Old El Paso). I leapt all over the board, reclaiming the right 6 sectors with my Silurids before they were taken down by his Austringer (those austringers are neat...it's the first time I've seen one on the table. No LOS requirement is pretty epic. They are super annoying against Silurids and Gremlins too. Also, I've never seen how amazingly fast a Silurid is when it's just trying to get somewhere). Zoraida started off by conduiting his austringer and having it try to take down Nino, who was frustratingly scaring me away from a good portion of the board. The stitched and LaCroix kin moved up just slightly and took position, waiting for the Ortegas to come down the middle and push towards the Claim they wanted to jump. Perdita came down the middle, leading the charge with her speed and firepower and ended her activation 6" away from the pretty beat up Francios (2 wounds remaining). But now she was in the open and about to take a beating herself. At first I thought about using Francios, sacrificing his life by declaring his automatic dumb luck trigger and just unload as much as possible on Perdita before he went, but then realized...he had something he wanted to tell her, "Hey Perdita, you look like a slut in that top.". So instead he just charged her and didn't declare any triggers. It didn't hit, but it did cost her a decent control card to avoid. Then Ophelia had a go at her and I had a red joker in hand. She wanted to bring her to the edge, but not quite finish her off and that's what she did. Starting with a (0) dumb and lucky on herself, then taking a shot, cheating in the red joker, getting a straight flip, declaring calculated luck and hit with moderate damage (x2) for 6 wd. The next turn was all about initiative, as Francios was inches from death and really wanted to tell Perdita she was dressed so inappropriately. 1 Soulstone later Francios got the chance to make said insult. Immediately thereafter, my buddy declared his alpha strike, wiping out Francios, Ophelia and the stitched. But as I said earlier, we all know, a stitched doesn't like to go down without a show. He activated, gambled away Samael's life before the gunslinger has a chance to do anything, seriously frustrating my opponent, since he'd just picked him up and it was the first time he'd seen the table (he was unpainted so if you ask me, he deserved it). Zoraida was able to finish off Perdita with another obey of the Austringer and then she went raven and made a short flight to where there voodoo doll could still catch up but she could reclaim 1 more quadrant (making that 8/9). At Start closing the Austringer took a fatal dose of poison ending his life and leaving my opponent with simply Nino and Santiago and me with only Zoraida and her doll. The 5th turn started with him trying to take down Zoraida and not being successful and then heading towards the claim marker. Z spent the turn doing another 10" hop and claiming the final section of Malifaux in the name of Neverborn. Turn 6 and it was time for the final push. He took another pot shot at Z with Nino who was too far and too slow to make it to the claim, and ran towards and got within the 3" with Santiago. Z's final move was (0) Raven, Walk, Walk, and ending about 5" away from the claim, praying it didn't go to turn 7. I flipped the card to see if it went and it was a 3! Praise the 'faux gods. The encounter ended with Z's invisable servants pushing her into base contact with Santiago making the number of models within 3" of the claim even. I had: Deliver the Message - 4pts Bodyguard (announced) - 2pts Reclaim Malifaux - 2pts Opponent had: Claim Jump - 0pts Round up (announced) - 0pts (the doll survived too!) Raid (announced) - 2pts Final score 8-2 me. The only thing he pulled off was the Raid. He had Santiago and Nino left at the end, I had Z and her Voodoo doll. I find game after game each of my minions is simply a pawn in Zoraida's master plan, there to serve a purpose and then be sacrificed to the gods of the 'faux. Love this freakin' game.

  4. Thanks again for the tips everyone. I played a 30 stone game last night against my buddy. He said Guild, I said Neverborn. As per your advice, I took it easy on the stitched's and tabled 1 of them: Z herself Voodoo Ophelia LaCroix Francios LaCroix Silurid x2 Stitched Together He went mostly ortegas so the only model I2I was Perdita, the rest being stubborn but zoraida still didn't have much of a problem convincing them to kill each other. The stitched, of course, ended up in a tangle with Perdita. But lucky for him she brought backup that wasn't immune to his gambling addiction, in the form of Samael Hopkins and Santiago. Perdita and Santiago were able to snuff him out before he got to do anything. But, as you know, stitched will just not die when asked to. He activated and gambled his life away with Samael, managing to drag him into the aether with him. All in all everyone played their role pretty well. I'm bordering on this being the wrong forum to post this so maybe I'll go do a full write up in the game recaps lounge...or whatever it's called. Thanks again all!
  5. Yup, that another reason I picked up the Ophelia box. I know that mature neph is a great target for this, but I'm still new enough to the game that I try to stay as in theme as possible, and it's easier for me to justify Born on the Bayou Ophelia kickin' it with the swamp hag than some giant blood drinking demon from hell. Also, I tend to use the voodoo doll for friendly obeys. With Zoraida (and the positive flip) it almost feels like a waste of an obey to do it to a friendly model... So it sounds like basically: If you're playing someone in a 25ss tournament (and you have no idea what masters your opponent has) but he declares he'll be using the guild, then maybe be weary and don't field 10 ss worth of stitcheds... Insidious Madness strips immune to influence?
  6. Hey all, I was wondering how you go about predicting if your opponent is going to be using a lot of immune to influence models assuming you know nothing about what's in his personal collection. Are there some factions that are more commonly immune to influence than others? I ask because I play Zoraida, but I picked up the Ophelia box to add a little ranged action to Zoraida's crew. So, I'd always prefer to throw Zoraida and a couple stitched on the table, but when I face off against a crew that's mostly I2I, I'm basically wasting the stones on the Stitcheds and I can't pull off Zoraida's favorite spell (obey). I'm thinking in those situations I'd be better off keeping the stitcheds off the table and subbing in silurids or maybe even some more from the ophelia box (Francios or Raphael or Rami). How do you predict that sort of thing? Are there any telling signs I can look for? Thanks in advance.
  7. When hiring a crew, does the master's cache add to the pool you have for hiring models? For example, If I'm using Zoraida with a cache of 5 in a 25ss scrap, do I have the option of taking 30ss worth of models and starting the game with a pool of 0? Thanks in advance!
  8. Me too, Im wondering two things: 1) is that just one terra clips box of sewer and one box of clips? If so, how large of an area were you able to build? Is it 3' x 3'? And 2) where did you get those wells and crates and stuff? Does that come in the box with the sewers?
  9. Let me preface this by saying I'm pretty new myself, so I could be wrong but... I believe it to be, wounds are direct - ie. ignore armor. Damage isn't. Damage is reduced by armor.
  10. Gotcha, I thought it was inferring I would somehow know what damage I was going to do before I declared the trigger. Thank you much sir.
  11. Ok, another question from the pullmyfinger wiki: What does it mean, "you can guage the amount to be doubled vs the damage taken when deciding if you will use it." I thought the steps went: 1) Flip starting total 2) Cheat and Soulstone 3) Calculate final total and declare triggers 4) Flip for damage
  12. Awesome. That's how I've been playing it. I thought that was pretty ridiculous. Thank you!
  13. Hey, I was just looking over the pullmyfinger wiki on the stitched together and noticed this line: This is leading me to believe that the stitched could possibly loop the Does Not Dies until it's pulls 2 in a row of them off successfully (ie. takes no damage itself). This can't be right...can it? If this was true, on the reactivate couldn't you just intentionally lose the second "Gamble Your Life" duel with the stitched just to continue the loop? Basically getting endless turns until the stitched runs out of targets it can get to in 1 walk...
  14. Hello All, I'm Doug. I'm super new to Malifaux and miniatures all together. I was at a con here in LA with a buddy who has being wargaming for years. He convinced me to wander over to a Malifaux demo, play a quick round and I fell in love. The theme, the models, the mechanics...all of it was awesome. That was about 2 months ago, I've since bought 3 starter boxes (Zoraida was my first, love the Voodoo hag thing, then 2 more that would work with her, Ophelia and Collodi). So I guess I'm a Neverborn player but again, I'm still learning. For anyone that lives in the Los Angeles Area, I go to a game night nearly every Friday and am always up to be schooled in Malifaux. You can find it on Meetup.com, it's called Friday Night Dice, in the Burbank/North Hollywood area...I'm actually looking for someone to play tomorrow if anyone is interested.
  15. Totally agree! Or maybe just a pdf with all the models from the faction. Sort of like the one's here: http://www.malifaux.com/Rules.php Those are great to load up on the ipad and have a quick reference to the models my opponent is using instead of asking him to pass me the stat card every 20 seconds (I'm a beginner and need to refresh my memory a lot, haha).
  16. Super helpful guys and thank you for the quick responses. Out of curiosity, do you gents know where in the rule book I can find that info (that you can just choose to tie)?
  17. Hello All, I'm brand new to miniatures. I saw Malifaux at a con and fell in love. One demo game later I bought the Zoraida starting box, a stitch together blister and the voodoo doll. I've played 2 games at this point so I'm still just getting the feel for everything. If these questions have very obvious answers, please forgive me. Zoraida has a bunch of cool abilities, particularly when she's within 1" of her voodoo doll. From reading the pullmyfinger wiki, I get certain impressions of what is possible but my opponent (a seasoned mini vet) doesn't necessarily agree. So here goes and thanks in advance for the help... 1) Voodoo Doll Magical Extension: When flipping for spells using the magical extension during the Voodoo Doll's activation, do you get the benefits of Zoraida being close to the doll? ie. Does she get the +1 casting flip? Or because the voodoo doll is really the model being activated, does that not apply? 2) Conduit: Zoraida gets a +1 to casting and damage flips when close to the doll, right? Looking at the damage flip, does that only apply when she's using her voodoo pins? That's the only thing I see on her card that causes damage. I'm hoping/wondering if it applies in, say, the following example. She casts obey on the enemy model she is conduit'd to (+1 to casting flip) the enemy model is successfully obeyed, the enemy model casts a 1 spell (+1 to casting flip), it is successful, you check the damage (+1 to damage flip). Or this example, Zoraida obeys an enemy model she is conduit'd to (+1 to casting flip), the model is obey'd to charge (no flip effect), the model is successful and resolves damage (+1 to damage flip). 3) Bayou Two-Card: When can you use this ability? Is it strictly during Zoraida's activiation? Is it during any model in her crews activation? Could you use it during the voodoo doll magical extension? Could you use it during the obey'd enemy models action? 4) Stitched Together Gamble Your Life: Can the damage flip on this always be cheated? I thought if the duel totals were 1-5 in difference from each other it would get a -1 flip and thus, not be cheat-able. Does the text on there "the damage flip my be cheated" mean that you can disregard that? 5) Obeying friendly models: I've seen it mentioned in a few places that obeying friendly models is easy because you can just choose to lose the wp duel. When you are saying this, do you mean that when you're in a duel you can always just flip a card and then opt to fail anyway? Or are you saying, you can flip a card and then cheat it down to something that loses? Ok...I'm sure I have more but those are the ones I thought of/argued about during my 2nd game last night. Love this game, thanks again for the help guys.
