  1. They're from Pegasus Hobbies - the #2 box is the perfect size for bases, whereas the ones in the #1 box are bigger and more suitable as terrain. http://pegasushobbies.net/catalog/Peg.-School-Project/c5/p96/%236508-Cactus-%232/product_info.html
  2. Thanks for the nice comments. The girl with the rifle is from Coolminiornot; https://www.coolminiornot.com/shop/abigale-steampunk-hunter-1.html And the gunslinger is from Micro Art Studio; http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/mary-fearless-p-503.html The Death Marshal is converted from the cowboy who comes with Alternate Bête Noire. I added a blade to his gun, drilled out his eyes, added the entrails, and extended his coat. The coffin was made from plasticard and was surprisingly quick to make.
  3. Afternoon all, In preparation for getting the Tara, Herald of Obliteration boxset from Gencon, I started building a crew for her. So far I've got four models done, Lady Katherine Hansel (Hans), Taelor, a female (Convict) Gunslinger, and an undead Death Marshall caught up in the arcane energies bursting from his pine coffin. The models from the Tara boxset are assembled and based and ready to be undercoated - hopefully I can make a start on painting them this week... - Dave
  4. I know someone (Inquisitor Goldeneye) who sculpted an invisible creature by modelling it's claws covered in the blood and guts of its poor victim. The original thread is linked to below, but I don't think he'll mind me cutting and pasting part of his post to illustrate his idea... http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=2333.msg31467#msg31467 - Dave
  5. I'd recommend using a sheet of thin balsa wood - you should find that much easier to cut than what you're using. Then after a undercoat of black spray paint, I painted it brown and washed and highlighted it rather than using washes to try to stain it the right colour.

    Cacti

Thanks, I'll go look at those links. The are some of the Pegasus ones on eBay but only from international sellers and the postage is pretty steep. ---------- Post added at 09:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:58 PM ---------- Having looked around I think the small Pegasus ones look best for what I have in mind but I'm still struggling to find a UK stockist...

    Cacti

I'm looking for some cacti to go on the bases of a crew I'm planning. I like the look of the Pegasus Cactus #2 set, the one with about 50-60 small cacti but does anyone know where I can get it in the UK? Or does anyone know of any good alternatives that are readily available? I only really want about a dozen cacti - I can't see me using more than that many, but they need to be fairly small to fit on bases. - Dave
  8. You only pay duty if the value is over £135, but you still pay VAT on things over £15 - plus there's the Royal Mail handling fees on top. Also bear in mind that import VAT applies to the total value including things such as postage & packing costs. For some reason I don't pretend to understand, you don't always get charged VAT and duty, but it can add quite a lot to the cost. For example I recently bought a card game from the US for $25 and postage cost $15 which comes to just less than £26, but I got charged about £5.20 VAT plus £8 handling fees which made it all rather expensive! Fortunately I didn't get hit with VAT and duty for my Gencon order last year, but it does make me think twice about what I order and I'll probably wait for most of what I want to hit the stores in the UK rather than ordering direct from Wyrd.
  9. Funnily enough, these are some of the reasons I prefer metal models. I find them much easier to clean up and put together - and about as easy to convert. I also prefer then to paint, and definitely prefer the heft of them while gaming. Much of this is probably down to the length of time I've been in the hobby - plastic models were rare when I started, so most of my experience is with metal.
  10. Evening all, I've finished yet more Malifaux models. A Cherub for my Lilith crew, a second Austringer for my Lady Justice crew, and a Necrotic Machine and three Crooligans so I now have enough models to be able to field a Molly crew. Next will be a Kirai crew, and then I think I'm going to get Tara. - Dave
  11. Not sure. We have a couple of players who've talked about entering some tournaments, but I'm not sure if they plan to enter this one. I've thought about it but haven't got myself organised enough to enter yet...
  12. Just a quick bump to say we've got quite a few players interested in M2E but none of us have had chance to try it yet - so if anyone fancies learning with us (or teaching us, if you've played already!) then please get in touch, either here or va our forum. http://winterhillwargamers.myfreeforum.org/index.php - Dave
  13. Thanks from both my wife and I for all the great comments - she was really happy to see how much people liked her work. Yesterday she finished the next model for her crew - Francois LaCroix;
  14. I didn't get a Poltergeist when I first built my Pandora crew because I didn't like the model and it didn't seem essential for the game. With M2E coming out I figured I might want to get one to finish off the crew in metal - plus I liked the art for the new Poltergeist which made me realise how good the old model could look. - Dave
  15. Hey Necris - Don't know that I can play properly, but I remember most of the rules most of the time - I probably still lose more than I win though! But it'd be good to have a game sometime. Anyway, here's the last members of my McMourning crew (for now at least) - the two nurses. Although having seen the nurse in red's eye in the photo, I think I need to go back and tidy it up... Next I plan to paint a few models to complete crews I did earlier to ready them for M2E - I think the Poltergeist will be the next to get done. - Dace
  16. Those bases look fantastic - really inspiring - I'll have to give that a try sometime...
  17. Thanks. If you have any questions about how I did anything or just want some general advice then please ask and I'll be happy to help. The bases certainly took a while to paint, but I'm happy that it was time well spent as it really brings the crew together. I'm tempted now to buy Rafkin and some Guild Autopsies so I just hope I can replicate the effect on their bases too. Thanks. If I remember rightly, the Necropunks used these bases; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/30mm-round-DS-Rubble-City-resin-bases-/150634922488?hash=item23128a81f8 My wife spent most of the weekend working on her dissertation so I had plenty of time free to paint more of the crew. The two Flesh Constructs were a lot of fun to paint and I decided to go with a sort of Boris Karloff Frankenstein green colour for their flesh (which reminds me - I really wish someone did a Bride of Frankenstein miniature in the same scale!). And finally, the Rogue Necromancy; Now to finish the nurses... - Dave ---------- Post added at 06:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:21 PM ---------- Nearly forgot again - I painted this faerie a month or two ago and have only just got around to taking photos of her... She was one of the most fun models I've painted in a long time.
  18. Morning, My wife is something of an occasional gamer - mostly board and card games, but is also willing to play the odd miniatures game and has also started painting a few models. She started with Blood Bowl and her first models were a couple of teams for that, and then she loved the cute models in Puppet Wars, so painted those too. When my Gencon order was delayed last year, Wyrd kindly threw in an Egg Hauler and their random act of kindness has paid off for them as my wife thought he was really cute and decided she wanted a gremlin crew. First up is the Egg Hauler that was the start of her crew... Next is Ophelia; Then we have Pere Ravage; And a couple of Young LaCroix; And finally for today, two Bayou Gremlins; My wife is still new to miniature painting, but is learning rapidly. She spent a lot of time building the bases for this crew, with a lot of scratch built and sculpted elements (including the log and barrel on the Bayou Gremlins). The only bit I helped with was pouring the water effect on their bases. Anyway - I'll open it up for comments and constructive criticisms. Hopefully you lot saying nice things about her work will encourage her to finish painting the crew and maybe she's also bring them to the club and learn to play the game. - Dave
  19. Morning all, The first two models in my McMourning crew are done - McMourning himself and his totem; Both were a lot of fun to paint - even if I have gone for rather unimaginative paint schemes... Next on the slab is Sebastian - hopefully he should be done soon. - Dave
  20. They look good - especially the hair on the Viks and the denim on the Ronin. I do have a couple of suggestions though. Eyes can be difficult, and I totally understand you not doing them, however I would darken the eye area so it looks like they are hidden in shadow. As it is it looks like they're walking around with their eyes closed (it's especially noticeable on the photo of Taelor). The other suggestion is to put a few blobs of putty on the bases before you add the sand - that way the ground won't be perfectly level and it'll look bit more realistic. A couple of small rocks / larger pieces of gravel would also help with that.
  21. Evening all, It seems ages since I worked on any Malifaux models - I've been working on casts for 7TV and 7th Voyage, but decided it was finally time to paint the Vulture and Mindless Zombies I needed to finish my Nicodem crew... I thought about doing a Flesh Construct & Rogue Necromancy to round out the crew, but I've always liked the McMourning box set so decided to go the whole way and do a McMourning crew to round out my set of Book 1 Resurrectionists. They're very much works in progress - mostly just the bases have been done so far - but I'll try to remember to post updates as I progress. - Dave
  22. Hello all, Winter Hill Wargamers is a small gaming club in Chorley and we're on the lookout for new members. Malifaux is one of the most played games at the club and most members have at least one crew, and some of us have quite a few. Seamus hulks out and heads off to the pub to meet his girl 40k and X-Wing are the other two most commonly played games at the club, but we're always willing to play other things and recent club nights have seen Zombicide, Saga, Infinity, Inquisitor, 7th Voyage, and Netrunner Boris was lost in the woods - again! The club meets every other Wednesday from 7pm until late. We are based in the centre of Chorley, in the small room at the Arts Partnership Community Centre. A map can be viewed here. And everywhere that Hoffman went, the Guardian was sure to go Everybody is welcome to attend - your first visit is 100% free, and we guarantee that you get a game. The only thing we ask is that you tell us you are coming on the forum so we can make sure you have an opponent, or send me a PM if you want to know more. http://winterhillwargamers.myfreeforum.org/index.php Hope to see some of you there. - Dave
  23. Morning all, I actually finished these a few weeks ago but have only just got around to posting them... And for a bit of a change from Malifaux models, I've also painted this...
  24. Many thanks to Stonedog-7 who sent us an Ice Golem puppet in return for a Ronin puppet. Much appreciated.
  25. Morning all, Santa was good enough to give me an Avatar of Famine to round out my Rasputina crew... Next will be a Lilith crew - starter box, young nephilim, Tuco and a primordial magic. - Dave
