  1. I would say Perdita or Lady Justice are the most flexible Guild masters. Hoffman is great, but has a hard time with certain strategies, like Recon, Line in the Sand, or anything that requires your crew to spread out. For a 50ss pool, I would recommend having 2 Guardians. The Guardian is probably one of the best 7 point models in the game. Protect, his Df trigger, and his (0) actions are absurdly good. Also, the Executioner is a great pair with a Guardian for melee. For ranged, Nino is an obvious choice and Sam Hopkins is probably the greatest ranged threat the Guild can bring. (Flaming Bullets + Rapid Fire = Death). Just remember to protect Sam with the Guardian. Witchling Stalkers are great against Kirai and the Dreamer and Death Marshalls are great in general. Lucius can give you the Lady Justice slingshot. Two Austringers are a MUST. Period. I'd recommend some Ronin and a Convict Gunslinger because those are great all purpose models. Von Schill would also be a great asset for mobility. I feel like there's a big mobility model that I'm forgetting... Oh, duh! Watchers! At least one, probably two. I would recommend Lady J over Perdita (even though Perdita routinely slays my masters) because I think Lady J is a bit more resilient. Although, if your LGS has a bunch of people playing with status effects (Paralyze, Slow, etc.) then Perdita is pretty much a must have. Hopefully that helps. In short, MUST HAVE: Guardian, Austringer, Watcher. After that, I think it's up to personal preference.
  2. I've had the most success with Kirai when I throw about 3 or 4 spirits in my opponent's face by Turn 2 at the latest. There are a couple things to help with this. Firstly, Night Terrors give you excellent Into the Spirit World targets. Throw a Night Terror 12" up, then Into the Spirit World. If you take 2 Night Terrors, then you have a second spirit 18" away. Secondly, Summon an Ikiryo 12" away. Then Soothe Spirits yourself. Hopefully you've healed enough to now summon your Shikome 6-12" away. That could get your Shikome as far as 30" away from your deployment zone without activating. Then, if you have Datsue making the Gaki ball, or if you just have Gaki with a living model to chase (like a Desperate Merc) the Gaki can move up to 15" a turn, without using Datsue or Swirl shenanigans. Here's another cool trick I'm looking to try: Nurse in your deployment zone gives Shikome Reactivate and Stimulant (+2/2 Wk/Cg, +4 Cb, and + to damage). Night Terrors fly up 18" (using their shenanigans). Kirai goes Into the Spirit World, then Summons Ikiryo 12" away. Swirl Spirits the Shikome right into your opponent's face. That Shikome has a 7" nimble and like a 10Cb? Plus double positive twists on damage?
  3. I know there are some damage flips that specifically say they aren't cheatable, for example Ryle's bonus damage flip. Those, I believe refer to the rule that where the book and card conflict, the rules on the card trump the rules in the book.
  4. Haha, wow, and now you tell him to leave the community! My goodness guys, we're all in this together and if someone says something you don't like/agree with, I'd recommend carefully evaluating what you say. No offense Dolo, but let's say another person is considering this game and that person thinks like Smig and that person stumbles upon your post. That person seriously second guesses coming into Malifaux, when they don't really need to. The world is bigger than the members of these boards and even then, I fail to see why its necessary to carry out personal attacks/posts on the boards, especially when the forums have a private message tool. Hopefully this thread will be locked soon, because we have a very workable answer to the question and the nature of the discourse here has truly bottomed out to a level that, honestly, offends my sensibilities.
  5. Not to start a flame war, but you guys are kind of rude. He's just explaining how he chooses to understand something and your response is, "bad" and "stupid." It is possible to disagree in a civil manner. For example, I, personally, don't think a rules system has to run through black and white (or 1 and 0) in order to be understood. Part of the interesting thing about this game is that it is cross-cultural and that creates specific problems. In another thread, I mentioned using "common sense" to apply the rules, versus a hypertechnical, algorithmical application. What I failed to grasp was that A) "common sense ain't so common" and common sense is definitely not cross cultural. Still, a black and white, on and off analysis can still make the game hard to learn, given that I doubt these rules were written with such a system in mind. In conclusion, I am all right with an effort to specifically identify and label the mechanics of this game in order to create a uniform standard of application, particularly at the competitive level. At home, or your FLGS with your friends, play how it makes you happy, but at a Con or Tournament, we, as a community need clear cut, uniform rules. Back on topic: Things in your abilities section cannot be ignored, unless some effect affects them. (For example, Peacekeeper cannot ignore Faulty Circuit; however, Hoffman's Ability Maintain Machines allows Hoffman to place an effect on the Peacekeeper that would allow the Peacekeeper to choose to ignore any of its abilities. A negative example would be: Guardian's ability Immune to Influence is stripped away by Pandora's Open the Box). Things in your actions section are optional, unless the action specifically indicates that it is not optional. This is where the Mannequin's card is unclear because (-1) Slow is listed as an action, and models may usually choose their actions. It would have made more sense to put the Mannequin's Slow in the Abilities section. Therefore, the Warden's Relentless Action is optional because it is not listed in the Abilities section.
  6. There are some Brawl combinations that sound awesome. Vikis/Levi Levi/Ramos (Ramos is a Construct?) And the next time I try a brawl, I'm definitely going to bring out some big hitters. I'm thinking Hoffman/Lady J with 2 Peacekeepers, 2 Guardians, and 2 Executioners.
  7. Oh, don't get me wrong. It's awesome to have 16-17 models out there. Unfortunately, I enjoy the smaller, faster games more.
  8. And you know you'll see it on a table near you Ciaran! I'm thinking of hacking up a McMourning to make Rafkin...
  9. Yeah, I was the loser in that Brawl and while I did have a good time, I definitely agree that it was too long. Granted, a lot of that was because I played Nico/Kirai grow, but still it was way too long. Now, team games do sound like an interesting prospect, especially to help new/casual players have fun with experienced/hardcore players.
  10. Ah, good point. Well I'll just be making some legs that will be resting on a chair. That should be all right without a frame, right? Also, green stuff will air dry, right?
  11. So, we now have a reason to take the Nurse?
  12. Hey, just so you know, there is a great community resource on this here
  13. So I'm working on a conversion for this model and just picked up one of these on Ebay here Figured it would make a good throne.
  14. This sounds pretty awesome. I'm sure the lack of comments has more to do with the fact that most people haven't played around with proxies and Book 3 as much. A lot of people are still playing tournaments and leagues where some of these models aren't legal. I do similar "Filth" list with Nicodem and Datsue Ba. Dead Rider hits Nicodem and Drags him 10" up. Datsue Ba Weigh Sins the Desperate Merc (who heal flips Nico) and Datsue summons either a Gaki or Onryo. Desperate Merc drops a Corpse Counter which Nicodem then turns into a Mindless Zombie. Datsue Ba then does the same thing to a Canine Remains. Granted, your idea makes WAY more models, but like I said, I wouldn't expect too much comment until more of the models become street legal. Slightly off-topic: Anyone have any good ideas for making a proxy Nicodem avatar?
  15. How much green stuff (in terms of GW blisters) would you need to make one 30mm Ht 2 model (say, Nicodem)?
  16. Hey, if you can't wait until October, buy these http://www.thewarstore.com/product48053.html and slap them on the back of Desperate Merc 2 (Female) to get your Kaeris!
  17. I'm sure this has already been said, but... AVATAR SONNIA. OMFG. Edit: Wow. I now realize that through my ridiculous use of capitalization, I must look like a 12 year old. So, for a more mature comment: Avatar Sonnia is absolutely ridiculous and causes stupid amounts of damage. Her ability to move Pyres is insanely good AND that pulse thingie with the Defense duel is crazy damaging.
  18. This is a great question because I'd like to turn the Dead Rider into a Spirit and then connect it to a Grave Spirit (in a brawl).
  19. I do see the issue and I appreciate your civil manner of discourse. So, looking at one example of Obey from Perdita "The Action selected may not cause the model to be killed or sacrificed as part of the action." I would read "part of the action" to cover Triggers.
  20. Well, referencing my earlier post in another thread, if it doesn't make sense, then it shouldn't work. So, if you can't Obey a model to make it kill or sacrifice itself, then you couldn't activate a trigger that would kill the model. Granted, I'm not a Rules Marshall, and I by no means blame you for how you understand the topic; however, I would just like to evoke a spirit of "common sense" rule reading over a lot of the "hyper-technical" rule reading I tend to see here. In summary, I would guess, that you couldn't use a Trigger during an Obey action that would kill the Obeyed model, because that makes sense with the fact that you can't Obey the model to kill itself. I hope this helps and I look forward to a Rules Marshall ruling and I by no means have any disrespect for your thoughts or understanding of the rules.
  21. I just played my Gremlins for the first time today and they are AWESOME! I ran Some'r and had a great time churning out a few minions and ALMOST killed Avatar Sonnia with Ophelia, speaking of which... I ran Ophelia twice and wiped up the Ortegas! She and her crew can be BEASTLY! Unless I'm doing the luck triggers WAY wrong...
