  3. I've just had a game with Nexus1 and quite enjoyed it! Was guard the stash vs Marcus2 and we called it at the top of turn 3 when Marcus had 4 models to my 12...

One question I have - Spell Eater's down to the last drop bonus. If I target an enemy model with a parasite token, it takes one damage from the action. Does that mean the opponent has to take the Df 12 duel or gain a parasite token from the trigger? As it says enemy models damaged, which it would have been when it was treated as the friendly Cadmus model.

  4. Welcome back!

I'd pick Seeker as, while their chronicles can appear to be tricky to remember, the key word doesn't suffer if you forget them occasionally. The Key word is strong and versatile to handle most pools, and quite forgiving of mistakes thanks to it's healing.

Wastrel is also a good pick, very versatile, but I think it has a complicated unpack, if you want to leverage more of the upgrades and handing them out to gain more bonuses etc...

  5. I think the goal for the ExS player is to have Jedza2 "fully-loaded" before she activates on turn 1, which is to say, she will have 3 life tokens and Focus +2. Depending on how you build your crew and flip cards, you will find 2/3 life tokens and focus +1 to be the usual starting point, which is no bad thing as Jedza2 could focus herself if their aren't enough markers/enemy isn't close enough to launch Dredge Up attacks.

    Ways to get Life tokens:

    • Grave Goo regen (guaranteed)
    • Winston's Dirigible ride with :tome on a seeker model. Needs a 6 but Fortune's favour helps as does Price of Progress
    • Lamplighter's Unnatural glow. Needs  a 5, targeting a seeker model (Jedza2 is my go-to)
    • Sophie's Candelight. Needs a 6
    • Kurgan's Mudslide. Needs a 6+:ram
    • Jedza2 at full health can also "refund" a life token via Death Touch killing a model.

You could also include Yaksha and the Hopeful Prospect here, but these are not options I have explored.

    Ways to get focus:

    • Sophie's grab from the pack. Needs a 6
    • Effigy's galvanize trigger. You need to attack something within 3" of Jedza/Jedza herself and have a :mask. It will set something on fire, but the effigy can assist to put that out.
    • Tannebaum's Haphazard topography. Needs a marker and  6+:ram
    • Jedza can focus for an action.

With a Hopeful prospect, Jedza could also gain focus +1 when killing something.

My core will be Winston, the Effigy (with upgrade) and a Lamplighter. I do often find a place for Tannenbaum, even if I think the Haphazard topography is not a reliable source of focus I find cleaning out Jedza's deck (Notes) for turn 2 a useful alternative. Depending on the game/board/opposing faction I'll then add the Kurgan/Vatagi as I think I need.

Its quite unlikely that they will change the rules to make terrain aura count as a marker, ( and Botanists need it to count as a marker for feed me) because that would have some huge effects, not least allowing lost knowledge to end a steam cloud.

If Botanist start their activation in Severe terrain, they heal one (Planted Roots). Mudslide and Moorwraiths have severe terrain auras.

Nothing to do with Grow tokens.

amazing work! it feels so great when you finish a keyword right?!

I particularly love the variety of colour on these, as well as the work on the bases - what are they the egg case type things made from?

Thanks @Moinetbeard! Yes it really does... but damn that keyword has a lot of minions 😆

The Egg cases are things I 3D printed, same with the mites that cover the crew. Variety of colour was something I wanted to try since my comfort zone is definitely limited palette. Thanks for noticing!

Nearly halfway through the month already, and I haven't painted anything since first half of last month. Seems a bit ironic considering this months topic... 🤣

I'll have to do something about this...

To get some motivation I'm going to ask YOU people what YOU would like to see me paint from the following options:

    1. Insidious madness
    2. Coppelius
    3. Bandersnatch
    4. Widow weaver
    5. Daydream
    6. Lord Chompy bits
    7. Insomniac
    8. Serena Bowman

Insidious madness all the way! There is almost no way to paint them "wrong" and you can really just let the colours fly and see what comes out. I liked painting the Berserker husks (Cadmus) for the same reason. Once your skin is ruined by parasites, it can be any colour you like.

  9. Kogan Style reporting in!

So far this month I have finished the NexKids and the Creeper

    paloQsJ.jpg

Which, thanks to the kind comments and encouragement from this group means I have finally finished a keyword!

Currently I have Jedza on the painting table... but starting to suffer burnout. Sophie is just such a big model with all the little details, I'm finding it hard to pick her up and deal with them. Will see how I go

  10. For Nexus there is no way to remove the parasite token once you have given the enemy one. It is a token so it cannot be removed by actions that remove conditions. Because it is a token and not a condition, the SpellEater cannot use Transmutation to change a condition into a parasite token. In Nexus crews you will never give the opponent more than 1 parasite token. If a second one would be given, then the model suffers 2 damage instead (Will of Cadmus upgrade)

The title version of Nexus (One of Many) can remove parasite tokens to affect the duel total via its Forced reaction ability. In Nexus One of Many crews, you can hand out multiple parasite tokens.

  11. I like Hidden Agenda as a deterrent if assassinate is in the pool, but FWC does a similar job. I do think the ping damage is useful, especially with Cooper2 as a defensive measure as if they cheat, they will trigger scent of blood. This can be used offensively as well if you have a bad control hand and don't flip well. If the opponent cheats to win the duel you can ping them for one damage and trigger scent of blood so you still get to attack them. I don't know if you can proc. Scent of Blood twice if opponent cheats and you still win the duel as it would be two separate sources of damage from Cooper2, but dumping 2 cards from the control hand would be expensive.

EDIT: With the FAQ stating that a model won't do an action that would kill itself, can a 1 health model cheat a duel with a Hidden Agenda model?

Like others, I think Treasure Map is a GG3 staple. Being able to shift into scoring positions for Covert Ops/Guard the Stash in the End phase is very valuable, alongside Hydranixx's comments about scoring/denying schemes.

Flush with Cash on minions is very useful in the start phase as you can cheat initiative (hopefully winning) then discard 3 cards to replenish your hand back up to full (4 cards). going through 20% of the deck (assuming no cards held from previous turn) can give you a good read on whether you can push your luck or hold back depending on what has been seen/discarded.

TL:DR ExSoc upgrades are amazing, with Hidden agenda being the least amazing, but still really good in certain situations.

  12. Managed to not black joker the marriage flip and still squeezed in some time to paint a mini! Thanks @DemiMurgos for your kind words :)

@OctaBit I've been there, sometimes even the "pressure" of this challenge has gotten to me and I just don't want to do it, but I've found that what works for me is to immerse myself in hobby inspiration, or passive hobbying as I think of it. I watch YT vids of painting styles, battle reps, read up on other aspects of the hobby; essentially engage with the hobby BUT don't actually DO any hobby. I find that if I'm in that slump this immersion rebuilds my enthusiasm and rekindles the spark of joy I feel when I build a new model, convert something, paint, or play a game with friends. Then at some point I'll feel inspired enough to paint a mini, usually in a paint scheme I saw on a video somewhere 😆

Anyway here is my effort, Tannenbaum from Jedza's crew... although despite his competitive damage track he is seldom seen on the battlefield, probably mapping the nearest exit to the fight!
