  1. Right, so. I'll be playing in my very first tournament ever this weekend if all goes according to plan. I'm debating playing Guild or Arcanists. Guild because I have two masters, Arcanists because Colette is easily my best master. Anyhow, I figure it all comes down to how competitive I can be against different factions with what models I have. So, for the guild I have: Lady Justice Sonnia Judge Samael Executioner Death Marshals Witchling Stalkers Scales of Justice And for Arcanists, I just have the typical Colette crew (Colette box, Coryphee, Doves). So what do you think? Is my selection of Guild models adaptable enough to do them, or should I just stick with the less adaptable crew that I know so much better? Edit: It occurs to me that I posted this in the Guild section, when I meant to post it in the general section. Could a mod move it, please?
  2. Was planning on getting Kaeris, but then I saw that I could get Sonnia and an Executioner for the same cost. So, yeah. That just settled itself.
  3. More like... Maliphotos. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH
  4. Don't be fooled by Samael's poor performance this game. He's a complete beast against the right models. Being able to properly apply him comes with practice. As an example, I blew through a Mature Nephilim in one activation with him. Brought it from full wounds to dead in two shots.
  5. That's a really funny way of spelling "so great that words fail to express my love for it."
  6. I don't play Marcus, myself, so take my advise with a grain of salt, but I think the Malifaux Raptors would be a great idea. There's a little combo that people have put together involving Myranda. She becomes a Raptor, turns your master or other minion into a Beast, and then can cast their spells with a pretty good casting value.
  7. Right, so I just got $50 in the mail (woohoooooo!), and I plan on spending it on Malifaux. I want to get a new crew, but i'm having a hard time deciding. I am looking at either Kaeris or Sonnia right now. Currently I have: Colette box + Coryphee Justice box + Scales of Justice Seamus box + Copycat Killer Got any advice for which of the two boxes to get next?
  8. As I was perusing a friend's copy of Twisting Fates and reading the excellent story in it, it occurred to me that I have quite a few friends who would love the story presented in the three books, but have no interest whatsoever in mini wargaming. Does Wyrd have any plans to release the storyline as a separate novel at any point? I can't speak for everyone, but I think that'd be awesome.
  9. Ah, whoops. My bad. Yeah, I have to agree with you. Without some way to generate soulstones, that combo seems like it'd have resource management nightmares.
  10. Dunno if there's a chance of that. I think that the second Sonnia shows up, it's all over. Still, though, lots of fun. Hence Colette. She'd probably just be hanging out by herself, cranking out soulstones. Maybe, maybe one or two showgirls, but that's it.
  11. Not gonna lie, I've been thinking of how feasible it would be to have a Colette/'Tina brawl with Kaeris in the list. I imagine that Colette would have to relegated to soulstone factory duty, though those doves could be pretty damn handy.
  12. 35. Big models become viable for their cost, and you have enough soulstones to really start customizing your list, aside from the usual must-haves.
  13. ...it occurs to me that while Captain Planet is a boring little boyscout, Captain Malifaux would be a homocidal terror.
  14. There is, however, a different printing for the Mannequins. It adds about a line of text to Link.
  15. Right, so I'm going to be running a couple demos tonight; Justice vs Seamus (starter boxes only). I was thinking of doing Shared Line in the Sand with Hold Out for Seamus and Breakthrough for Justice. Your thoughts?
  16. I really think that Mennequins and Coryphee have a lot of potential for nightmare awesomeness. Only thing better than animated mannequins? CREEPY animated mannequins. So yeah, I guess chalk another one up to nightmare showgirls.
  17. This is the tale! Of cold Rasputina! Fighting for what she wants! Killing everything in her waaaaaaaay!
  18. Good luck! I've got a similar plan. I have Justice and Seamus, all I need is to get them finished with being painted and make some terrain, and it'll all be good. In fact, I'm already going to be doing some demos next Tuesday.
  19. Oh, no, no, no. Each model costs a certain number of soulstones that is written on the card. You subtract that from the point value you're playing (ie: a 25 ss game, a 35 ss game, etc). Any leftover points are added to your master's cache to determine how many soulstones you have for use while playing. An example: In a 25 SS game, a list I wold take would be: Colette Cassandra - costs 9 Performer - costs 6 Performer - costs 6 Mechanical Dove - costs 2 This leaves me with 2 soulstones left over which is added to Colette's cache of 3, giving me 5 soulstones to play with during the game.
  20. Well, right there is your biggest problem. I can tell you right now that you are, in fact, limiting yourself quiiiiite a bit by doing this. Malifaux is definitely not just a slug-it-out fight. In fact, for many crews, this is the absolute worst thing you could pick. Try the game out with a couple different strategies and schemes, you'll find that the gameplay changes considerably. And I do mean that this is a huge change.
  21. You're all idiots, don't you realize that none of them were BORN in Malifaux? LET'S SEE THOSE BIRTH CERTIFICATES. Zoraida in 1905 - A Plan We Can Believe In (or else)
  22. I actually see the Dreamer himself as the most lovecraftian thing in the crew. He has phenomenal cosmic power to twist reality to his whim and doesn't even recognize us as anything more than playthings - mere figments of his imagination.
  23. Frederick gaming group has no bans or modifications, really.
  24. Oh, this sounds like a lot of fun. I'd totally be up for this!
