  1. Alrighty folks, the weather is turning sour again, who's up for some Malifaux? It's been way too long. I definitely need to get some games in. My schedule is pretty open, so hit me up. Are Thursdays at the Matrix still going on?
  2. I agree with the above, a lot of the games balance comes with choosing strategies and schemes that works well with the crew you select. In Malifaux you don't select your crew until the strategy (or scenario, as other games refer to it) is revealed. But to get with the down and dirty of your question... Marcus is probably the worst master in the game, followed (imo) by Ramos, and Somer Teeth Jones. Everyone else is balanced really well, with Pandora, Perdita, and Hamelin tipping the scales to slightly over powered.
  3. I'm confused on the combat pool numbers. Which of the two numbers are you supposed to use to calculate the combat pool? It mentions in the rules that there will be a black number above that white to be used as a modifier, but both numbers on the cards are white, and some are higher than others.
  4. Thanks for posting this. I've bookmarked the site, as I'm definitely a sucker for Asian inspired gaming (L5R player for nearly 15 years). Love the art, the cards, and most of the models, especially Kato and the turtle. Have to go over the rules in more depth later. Do they have an actual rule book release planned? The website could really use some work, it's kinda clunky, and this is important to me. I'm looking at you too Infinity!
  5. Don't get anything unless it's dual action. Single action is nearly worthless, you'd be better off buying colored spray primers from Army Painter
  6. Haha, that Skorne boxset is one of the reasons I quit Warmahordes. What a collection of craptastic models. Still haven't put those Cyclops together. You might as well just sculpt your own arms for them.
  7. Tucked away in the Rising Powers book it mentions that a when a model with a blight counter suffers wounds, it takes one additional wound. Anytime there is a Stat --> target # duel, it's a simple duel in which there is no attacker or defender, so immune to influence doesn't come into play, regardless of what triggered that duel.
  8. Kidnap is a really potent scheme. Not much you can really do to counter it, as you hire crews before selecting schemes. You just have to focus on your own stuff. It's somewhat balanced, I guess, as Reclaim Malifaux is a terrible Scheme, so that faction has a little bit less flexibility. Sorta. :/
  9. Hamelin is still pretty worrisome. No change there. But the ability to take down a Rat Catcher in one activation is a pretty big difference for the crews overall effectiveness
  10. This doesn't really differ much than how casting a spell works now. One thing I've tossed around before is the option to cheat back and forth. The loser still goes first, but you it isn't limited to one time only, both "losers" alternate until there's a clear winner. I think the system is very good how it is now though
  11. It's kind of funny to me that Levi is winning as Hamelin and Voracious Rats make a lot of trouble for Levi eh forgot that Entropic sacrifices and doesn't kill. Not so bad. You'd be at a negative flip targeting a rat though. hmmm
  12. Yeah, I guess. And six doves later you might have a dead Hamelin. If he doesn't heal.
  13. Doves are Ht 1 and cannot target Hamelin, fyi. The best bet with Colette is to generally avoid his crew at all costs and just use your superior mobility to score VP. Disappearing Act on a Rat Catcher when you have the chance is pretty ace though.
  14. I started reading this story eleven (!) years ago. Eleven goddamn years. If I wasn't so invested at this point I would tell George to piss off. Hurry up and finish what you started!
  15. I think Colette is a top tier master for sure, and definitely the best Arcanist. She maximizes the Coryphee and Cassandra, which I also believe to be some of the best models, insane maneuverability, unkillable, and a couple of decent spells. She's pretty fun to play too... except my last few games have kind of turned into a stall match where the opponent can only win if they kill Colette, which saps the fun pretty quick.
  16. Performer's Irresistible can't be ignored by any talents.
  17. Hey folks, just wanted to start a thread to help coordinate meetups, and try and draw some new people into our gaming circle. Right now the Tacoma Malifaux crew gathers on Thursdays at The Game Matrix 8610 South Tacoma Way Lakewood, WA 98499-4543 (253) 583-9708 Usually, the fun starts around 3pm or so, and goes until they kick us out, which is generally around midnight. There are plenty of tables to use, and we've averaged around 6 people attending. The more the merrier! We also have a game day planned for Sunday 4/17, which will be starting around noon, and has our relocated Henchman from Portland coming up to join us. So if you are interested in playing some new people this would be a great day to come on down. I'll be keeping this thread updated as it seems like our crew may start to branch out to other days more frequently.
  18. I hear what you are saying, but I actually think that despite your play mistakes and GP Saints play, you still would have been able to win if you had another Rat Catcher to fall back on.
  19. 1. Only the totems triggers apply 2. Discarding a soulstone is an additional requirement that must be met to successfully cast the spell, though this step comes after you flip and cheat for your casting total, therefore you can choose to not discard a soulstone to have the spell fail, as it would anyway. 3. Yes, you can target your own models with spells, unless the spell specifically says otherwise.
  20. We'll get a real battle report up after thursday. Sandwich was obviously off his game, and the match was decided after one turn basically. With that said, Gunpowder Saint had a pure genius strategy for nailing Treasure Hunt and his schemes, so it would have been a tough battle regardless, though Sonnia did absolutely nothing noteworthy during the game, he may as well have been playing Lucius. If our game today showed anything, it really reinforced how much the Rat Catchers are the lynch pin to the whole crew, and I think that starting two is an absolute must. Ham 2 Ratchers Nix The Stolen 4 Rats. 7 SS cache Hide The Stolen and Nix, brick up the rest of the crew and go to town. I may even drop Nix is certain Matchups/Strategies. I think one The Stolen is definitely enough to keep Hamelin on the board for the entire game, now with the errata.
  21. Yeah, that's pretty weak Guy in Suit. I think the tournament winners should be decided on point differential, just for that very reason, and it encompasses win/loss by default.
  22. Well, we will probably have fun, but I'd be shocked if it changed anyones mind here on the forum. It's only one battle, after all.
  23. 30mm is one, 40mm is two, and 50mm is three. Don't ask me how I know this, don't have my books handy
  24. Cool, I'll be there. Maybe a little later though
  25. Just go to the shop and do it, I don't think there's anything going on there on Mondays
