  1. My 10 year old son competed in Malifaux masters 2 years ago. People need to stop saying "complex" like it means anything. v1 is NOT too complex for beginners. At least anymore than v2 in terms of cards, cheating, individual models, etc... Or did I somehow miss something in that we were ALL beginners... In the beginning... If you want complexity, ask my son to try to explain scheme markers and pools to a new player.
  2. Is there a problem with the online store? I was trying to make a purchase and keep getting a merchant configuration error.
  3. easy for you to say... for you to say...
  4. I still have about 2000 v1 cards for netrunnet including unopened starters. Was a great game.
  5. night terrors are fast and good objective hunters, but if you were playing something like master of the hill (Or whatever the center control one is called anymore. Claim Jump?) I'd have Necropunks instead. The dogs are good either way as they are significant in groups and only cost 2 and if they die, Nico gets to bring back something bigger. what you have there is ultimately a faster squishy list that might be able to play good reconnoiter with a decent core with Nico, Toshi and punks to kill things. I have only one game so far with Toshiro though, so cannot speak to him with any sort of specific experience. He SEEMS cool to me. (But so did Rafkin. ) If you were doing more objective based stuff that has you moving more on the board, I might swap one PZ for another Night Terror and a Dog. Your core killing drops a little, but the night terrors are so good and you can actually run the dogs as escorts for Nicodem too. They may not hit hard, but Bolster scales to model count... You are also better outactivating your opponent. You still get conflict tokens for the dogs hitting. So the more hits you get from a larger number of attacks, the more potential for Toshiro to get conflict tokens and summon his own PZ. Plus, all the extra cheap models dying around Nico is more fodder for him to summon. (Except for Night Terrors which will not drop a corpse) What I like about Toshiro and Necropunks is the potential to push them into melee with enemy models with his (0) so that they can then flurry on their activation. He seems like he would be brutal in Claim Jump.
  6. Against what faction? What Strategy and schemes?
  7. I am one of the few people I know that seems to prefer the look of the original ice golem. I think the new one is cool but if you google "ice golem" and look at the images returned they all sort of seem the same way to me. There is an interesting impossibe thinness to the old one that I find appealing. And I like the blockiness of it. Seeing the paint job that oldmanmike did for the raspy crew at adepticon sealed the deal for me.
  8. Yan Lo WITHOUT Soul Porter and Izamu is crazy talk... And hunpo assault is really cool... But requires your opponent to clump to have a game-changing type event.
  9. I think that you are mistaken about what people realize. Standalone Yan Lo though, with Dog Chopping, loses a lot of speed and is quickly out-activated on turn 2 because he wipes out more than half his own crew. In terms of results, I will put forth this year's Adepticon, the largest tourney ever in North America. Yan Lo + Nicodem won the team tourney. The same Yan Lo tried to dog-kill in the masters and was pushed off the board consistently without Nicodem support and placed 20-something. (And would have been worse if there was not a round 4 switch to Nicodem. ) The dogs have more utility staying alive until they die of "natural causes" in a regular game. Killing the dogs for Nico AND Yan was worthwhile. Killing only for Yan Lo just slows things down and while Yan becomes pretty great, its a simple fact that as of turn 2, a crew like the Vickies will be bigger and out-activate you. A decent player will take advantage of that and find an opportunity to smash Yan Lo's face in. I cannot help who you find pretends some things are not broken or whatever, I can only tell you that "our experiences differ" in terms of Yan Lo and dog killing. I get that there are some appealing theories, but I will stick to the mantra: "Results or it didn't happen." I explained results of Yan Lo in a large tournament. Show me results of him being OP and owning the field with Dog Chopping. Until then, I will use personal experiences and results from a large tournament rather than Theory to guide my opinion.
  10. Some masters have years of results from the largest tournaments to back up the arguments of those that claim they were over the top. What has Yan Lo won? I think he is great... And more importantly, fun. But when its all said and done, to paraphrase a common saying: "Results or it didn't happen!"
  11. So, a game that you know the rules to has sat in your closet collecting dust for a year and you might take it out because you know "F"-all about 2.0 and you feel the need to be a drama queen? Does that sum your post up? Ok... Have a good one, man...
  12. My personal favorite model to add to every Yan Lo list I have played has been as many dogs as will fit. They are cheap, FAST, significant in numbers, have a nasty trigger that can help Weight of Ages and die sort of easy boosting your Chi in a hurry. I have no advice to give around Toshiro... Mine is still in my box... (As is my Yin) I have been busy lately and with the impending open Beta coming, I thought perhaps I might be devoting time to that, so have not gotten around to assembling and playing with then. Now that I think about it... I sort of feel like I should get them assembled and painted and at least playing once before they get a new version.
  13. I find the creation of this thread interesting when seen through the lens of someone that has been catching up on his podcasts. A couple of casts in particular still take great pleasure in calling out the rezzer forums for complaining about faction balance and how rezzers are weak. In our defense, I feel like these podcasts are pretending like its still 1st half 2012 or something though... I have not seen those sorts of rumblings in quite some time. (See: Book 4 release ) Quite the contrary... A thread like this pops up. (We are in 3rd place, in my eyes... And that's just fine. )
  14. 50% of my games are against my Son, wife and daughter. Not everyone cares about tournaments exclusively. (But yes, I believe in balance at the highest levels... It just doesn't stop me from buying giant robots that make my boy smile!
  15. I do not care what people say about rules or whatever... My house is soooo all over having this ASAP... Best news I've heard in a while... Was worried he was getting swept under the covers or something with 2.0 storm coming. I am calling the robot carrying him KITT! (Knight Industries Three Thousand)
  16. Nico has :crows in his Ca and Rigor is not a :crows :crows casting, so he does not need a high crow to try it. Collette's Wp is 6 and Nico's cast is 7, so Nico has a slight advantage, actually.
  17. Nico also took 1st and 2nd place at Adepticon Team Tourney! Masters... Not so much.
  18. And Malifaux does not have anything like 5th edition 40K necrons... One formula to beat them with just about any army... Get close, assault, phase them out... Game over. I had read over and over in the forums about how lame Raspy is... No one in our area plays her and last years adepticon was literally the FIRST time I ever saw her on the table. And she nuked the ever-living SNOT out of me. (And red-jokered my Dead Rider off the table... ) And those Ice pillars... <shiver> I did not see that coming... I trust the word of many better players that perhaps at the highest level of play she lacks some answers, but thats besides the point. Its like when I watch a car race and they talk about some new engine that has 5 MPH advantage over its competitors or something... In the hands of the professionals, that 5 MPH is relevant, to the rest of us, they are ALL driving faster than we ever will, so its all the same... EDIT: @ Jewomie, If I based my tiers on only me, I would CERTAINLY rank arcanists over MY rezzers.
  19. I personally Rank Rezzers at the moment right in the middle. IMO, the "tiers" are: NB, Outcasts Rezzers Arcanists, Guild Mind you this is top to bottom for the factions. There are standouts in all of them... Book 4 pushed us up quite a bit and was preceded by book 3 in which NB got Tuco, but rezzers got the BEST avatars...
  20. So cool... My son and I got a kick out of walking through the WM rooms to see all the GI-NORMOUS-FREAKING-MODELS on the tables... Very cool.
  21. I trust Fetid's instincts on Seamus... They have some sort of "get a room" type love affair. My first question is... Are you trying to eek out as much power from his crew as you can or having an "ok" crew that might be fun? I love Seamus too, but in total disclosure I have only brought him to one actual tournament that had more than 10 people and I only went 1-2-1 with him, so I am far from someone that can really speak to his current competitiveness. His Avatar *IS* awesome. My experience in a tournament with time controls? He was on the table for maybe 1 round a game before the game ended so he had very little impact. Full Disclosure: I am a slower paced player that likes to chat and Korrosion, TekDekay and I were sneaking in whiskey in our coffee cups at the store we were at between rounds. (Sorry Nilus. Seems like a common theme for us at tourneys. I swear, I drink more playing Malifaux than I do playing SOFTBALL! (I know, right?)) If you are not trying to be super competitive or know that you will be facing a mostly or all living crew, then Molly is a model that many of us like having in a love-hate relationship.
