  1. Yeah, but I think that's supported by the fact that he clearly died sitting down. I mean, there's no damage to the armor that would suggest that he was standing and fighting when he died. Rather, I'm pretty sure that whatever hit him, it got him when he was resting. And with no damage to the armor (again, that's on the mini) I'm inclined to think that it was some kind of psychic burst or feedback.
  2. Here's the last warjack that I have for my Magnus Agenda force. Ah, I've been painting these off and on for a while, but it is good to have the force done. Although, honestly, I don't have much of a plan to use the Talon. Mostly, he came in the battlebox. But now I can finally play battle box games with Magnus.
  3. Woohoo. Oh, it looks like there's an errata on her (a card misprint- apparently one of her best abilities actually costs three potions rather than one).
  4. Thanks. I admit I haven't seen the Dwarven Donkey yet. Maybe google can help. As for the skulls- the photo doesn't show it very well, but the throne itself is littered with them. There are probably another dozen skulls on this mini... yeah.
  5. In Space Hulk fluff, Brother Claudio doesn't belong to either of the main squads (Lorenzo or Gideon). Rather, he's on loan from another unit and just accompanies the Librarian around. So, I decided that he didn't really need to match either my Lorenzo or Gideon color scheme. So, when I was considering a color scheme for him, I thought about how I've never seen him survive any mission. The guy has to have a death wish just bringing close combat weapons to a genestealer action. So, to represent his suicidal nature, I made him a member of the Death Company. I've also posted him up on Coolmini for those of you who care to vote.
  6. Here is the dead marine from Space Hulk. I honestly think it is quite a shame that he plays such a small part in the game- he's not even an objective marker. But he's a great mini none-the-less. Someone told me that he was a captain (which is unfounded in the fluff) so I decided to paint him in NMM gold to match some of the classic Blood Angels captains. I put him up on Coolmini for anyone who cares to vote.
  7. At Gencon, Sodapop miniatures was selling a limited edition hero to use in their upcomming board game "Super Dungeon Explore." Well, I got a request from wittdooley to post up my version of her on Bols, and I decided that while I'm at it I should post here here too. On a side note- I posted her up on CMON to see what would happen, and it looks like this style isn't terribly well received over there. The game itself should be shipping out next week or so.
  8. Actually, his face was a little bit of an experiment. I used more or less normal shading for it, but I outlined everything in pure black. That's actually true of the whole mini- everything is outlined in black. The pure black of the lining seems to contrast quite a bit to the more subtle shading on the face- and in the pictures, it seems to drown them out a little. I think I'll use this technique on my other space hulk minis, but I'll also use other dark colors and see what effect I end up with. I think this technique may end up being super helpful when I want to paint up a beautiful girl's skin. I can use a pretty fair amount of contrast, then back off on it through black lining. Oh, the possibilities.
  9. Finally painting some of my own Space Hulk stuff. I'm trying to really bring out the complexity of the mini here. Whether I succeeded is always yours to decide. And I put him up on Cool Mini for those of you who care to vote.
  10. I would personally shy away from outcasts altogether. Mostly, because the faction breaks so much of the core game. Rasputina seems like a good choice to me. Another nice crew to consider is Lilith.
  11. One of the tricks to vivid-bright colors is careful color control. These are probably the most extreme examples I've painted- I only have one bright color on them, and the rest of them is extremely neutral. You can get good results without going that extreme, but the principle is still valid. Another important step is to black-line your areas. Go ahead and put black lines between all of your different areas. On these harlequins, you can see that I outlined all of the stripes and diamonds in black. It makes the mini look crisp, and helps the bright effect.
  12. Go right ahead. I would be tempted to use some of this concept on a Colette crew, but Collodi seems like he'd fit well.
  13. So, a little while ago, I received a commission to match some harlequins to an existing Dark Eldar force. My client, in this case, was very specific about the colors- mostly they would be in black and white, but they were each to have one bright color on them (selected from one of the bright colors on the Dark Eldar force). Overall, I think the color control turned out rather nice. So, here they are:
  14. Well, I got permission. Here's the re-creation of these Zombies.
  15. Check Hasslefree's range of children. There are quite a few there- most of them have weapons, but I'm sure you can find something convertable.
  16. After Gencon, I'm planning on starting up some Relicknight, Sedition Wars and Super Dungeon Explore.
  17. I've seen those photos- they're pretty awesome. I'm currently in the process of finding out whether I'm allowed to post them.
  18. Here's a Vanguard that I painted up for a Khador force. Rather than match the color scheme, my client wanted this mini to look like its original paint was completely gone. So, here we have a mini covered in verdigris. So, here he is:
  19. Thanks. My client sent me a couple pics of the uniform, and I went online to see a few more. That one was a pretty extensive re-purposing of a cake topper figure.
  20. So, here's another set of cake toppers I did for a client. This couple decided to make the zombies represent aspects of themselves (his Marine uniform and a 50s style dress for the dance where they met). On the cake, they get set up as a diorama, with the zombies approaching the bride and groom. Anyway, here are the pics:
  21. They're between 5" and 6" tall. And since this thread is suffering from a bit of necromancy, I'll go ahead and start another thread for a different set of cake toppers.
  22. Here's a little mini from Reaper that I painted up a little while ago. I'm pretty sure he's a druid for a D&D game. Pretty eccentric little guy, too.
  23. Chess is a sort of zen for games. The rules are extremely simple, but if you start getting into the game, the meta goes on forever. It is tough to pull off that kind of zen, it really is. For most games, the goal is to have a rules set where every individual rule adds to the strategy. A lot of games end up having rules that are more complex than their strategy, and the goal is to have a rules set that is simpler than the strategy needed. From Malifaux, we can tell that Wyrd knows how to make a complex set of rules that add to the strategy. Let's see what they can do with a simpler set.
  24. Hm... I'm really curious how that's all going to work. I mean, it looks like Dead Justice is simply a box set of alternate minis (as in, it doesn't change gameplay) and I like that. But at the same time, I'm wonering what they decided to do with them for the Ressurectionists. Strange stuff.
  25. Thanks. And I would have liked two different horses as well. It isn't as noticeable as I thought it would be, but adding a different pose for one of the horses would improve the sculpt as a whole.
