  4. Two locations! Two demo setups! Two days! This weekend due to a slight coverage issue for our other esteem-able henchperson, and due to me finally having some time off since it's winter break, I will be running not one, but two Pittsburgh gaming events. On Saturday the 15th, from 12-3 pm we'll be having demos and open gaming at Legions Hobbies and Games at 1130 Perry Highway Pittsburgh, PA 15237. Then on Sunday the 16th, I'll be back at my usual haunts at Phantom of the Attic Games in Oakland PA. 406 South Craig Street, Pittsburgh, PA. In both cases I will have many available crews including the new plastic crews for Misaki, Mei Feng, and Jakob Lynch, and if the post office is on my side today possibly a surprise guest appearance of an Ancient Ressurectionist Spirit Bender, or a certain Mounted Guild Rapscallion. So feel free to come on down. RSVP on facebook if you like. Also we'll have Evil Baby Orphanage on hand, in case kidnapping Richard Nixon is more your cup of tea.
  5. Another week, more open gaming and demos at Phantom of The Attic on South Craig Street. From 1 pm-4pm we will have lots of crews available including several of the new plastics. I'll be running demo games for anyone interested, and there's open gaming for anyone who wants to dust off their crews. This is nicely within walking distance of both Pitt and CMU, so come check us out. Here's the setup we had last time.
  6. Next Saturday the 20th from 1 pm-4 pm. Hopefully going to be a bi-weekly open gaming/demo setup. Possibly a league if we get consistent players. Feel free to come down, I'll have several of the new plastic crews available for demo games and I'll try to bring any crews anyone is interested in trying. 406 South Craig Street. Pittsburgh, PA. 15213. I created a facebook group and twitter for updates: facebook.com/POTAMalifaux and twitter.com/POTAMalifaux. Event: http://www.facebook.com/events/284341165010129/
  7. So while I've seen narrative battle reports, and video battle reports I hadn't seen the two collide. So for my Jakob special episode of my Vlog I thought I'd try one. Give me your thoughts. If you want a less atypical battle report simply turn on captions. Hope it's interesting. Sorry about the shaky camera. I assure you my next purchase is a steadicam.
  8. Part 2: If you want a less atypical battle report simply turn on captions. Hope it's interesting. Sorry about the shaky camera. I assure you my next purchase is a steadicam.
  9. Episode 2 Part 1 is up now. Usual if you haven't had a chance to look at Jakob and Darkness or their rules.
  10. So I had ideas for two more episodes, one with a quick tutorial for painting glowing eyes since it's come up a lot with the new Dark Debts crew, and another discussing some of the tricks and tactics the new crews offer. After that I wasn't certain what to do. Anything anyone would particularly like to see in a Video Blog series?
  11. Hope this helps: Also now subtly edited to say Mei Feng.
  12. I decided to do a vlog of my Malifaux painting and playing experiences since there's a lot of podcasts, but not as much in the way of visual examination. Also you know let me know what you think, and if I should do more.
  13. Well, the first thing that comes to mind is Cassandra being unable to be targeted by ranged attacks during the early turns, that means you can go ahead in and dismantle some of their firing lines. As well the coryphee aren't going to draw as much fire since they push, and so you can get by Perdita's Quicker than you. Also don't forget that Colette can Mannequin Replacement Santiago/Santana and completely nullify his hard to kill and survivability. Other than that, you're super manueverable so if you have a Strategy where you needn't fight them, just don't. Nino can control a great deal of the board, but he's still a minion, and with all your soulstones Colette and the coryphee can beat even his 9 cb. (When he uses in my sights) Also Cassandra can just saunter up and hit him when he can't even target her. Also don't forget you can always put mechanical doves into melee as harassers and make it harder for the Ortegas to fight at range, plus Francisco and Nino don't have great defense so you can always pop them, and magician's duel is a good way to get around Perdita's insane defense if you're trying to contain power.
  14. Yeah I have greenstuff in there but it's more on the top, I didn't think to do the inside of his mouth and now of course it's obvious. Oh well. Here's some WIP of my Mr. T and Mr. G. I've done their skin, and the pant highlights on Mr. T.
  15. So I've heard a lot of negativity about the plastic, especially Hungering Darkness and the Dark Debts in general. So, I thought I'd post up a sort of painting blog since so far the only painted plastics I've seen have been Nix's and Not_SO_bad_Malifauxer's Rail Golem. Note I'm a mediocre painter. And I did Huggy with just a lot of layers of drybrush and glaze, so no fancy blending or layering or anything, although I did do a lot of coats, so it's a little less chalky than it could be, also the teeth pop more in person, took these with a non-macro lens iPhone, so it filtered down the light. Also the shading on the illuminated, aka Predator-Fase, is pretty much impossible to see and her tongue/ovidepositor has a way of ruining the poor phone's autofocus.
  16. So in another thread it was mentioned that the black joker counts as 0 which makes it an even card for Jacob's dead man's hand. Presumably then the red joker counts as a fourteen and is also even. Now my question is, since Jacob treats the ace of masks as a red joker when he flips it? Is it a 14 or a 1 by the rules of the spell?
  17. Has it ever been considered that maybe using chess clocks would be a way to go? Admittedly it puts more onus on you to know your cards and abilities inside and out, but that way a player would have a harder time playing for a round 1 or 2 point rush since by the nature of the clock time limit you'd have to keep things moving. I'm fairly sure kings of war was designed with that in mind, but I personally haven't tried it since my days of high school chess club.
  18. I didn't really notice any difference between the two. I started painting a depleted from a small box and an illuminated from the starter and they have similar corsetry and dresses and the detail seemed consistent between them. As well Jacob in particular has a lot of small but accentuated details in his clothing and face, and the same is true of the mutations on the illuminated. The totem does seem a bit less detailed than other large models, but I think it's more because he's kind of a glowing blob with teeth and the concept art than the plastic between the two kits. The main issues I've had with the plastichas been with fitting them together. The Hungering Darkness has a giant seem right down the middle, and unfortunately my primer kept getting grainy over the green stuff I used to fill it. My beckoner with cane ended up also taking a lot of bending to get to fit and now she has some nasty white stretch marks and upper shoulder glue scars. Also the crossed arm tentacle leg depleted just would not fit his arms no matter how I massaged them, and I'm currently building a green stuff upper arm to fill the gap.
  19. Separate piece, but he has no hair underneath so you'd need to sculpt in the missing bit if you wanted to do him hatless.
  20. Pretty sure malifaux is 32mm scale though. Honestly they look good and have a nice lanky kind of cartoon look but they look very very wrong next to the old pieces. Mr. Grave and the Hungering Darkness look tiny on their bases and just weird next to similar older models. Also for anyone who hasn't seen the models, my apologies for the blurry it's late and I hadn't time to take good pictures.
  21. Had my first day off post gencon and spent the day building and basing my dark debts, and I couldn't help but notice that while the detail was impressive they really seem to be a different scale than the existing figures. Mr. Grave barely stands as tall as a gunsmith and is appreciably thinner despite being a 40mm base bruiser. Jacob feels really minuscule. He doesn't even come up to Joss' shoulder and although most of the illuminated/depleted are crouching they are much less broad than even the student of conflict. Its not exactly a bad thing, and so far the one depleted I started is turning out to look good, but I do worry it might look a bit odd when old models stand near the new plastic.
  22. Well a single tournament is a bit inaccurate. Since to even get into the tournament you had to win a previous tournament. So everyone who was in there was already a tournament winner against fairly stiff opposition. I don't know if it says something about the factions or not, but I played in two of the non master tournaments and saw many of every faction especially guild and outcast so I'm sort of surprised they were so under represented in the invitational. Also I was hoping to see some of the gamers lounge rezzers in the end. Did see many a gorgeous Seamus and McMourning avatar though.
  23. Well I'm not sure what the soul stone total on the masters is, but the earlier gencon tournaments I played were 25 soulstones and I think neverborn can make very effective forces at that point value wherein some other factions don't have room at that level for all the synergy you need. I mean 2 lelu and 1 liltu plus a totem is pretty good, and I conceded in round 2 to a twins plus Tuco team that utterly crushed me. Not that I'm a good player, but I think at 30 or 35 other factions have more answer to those minions.
  24. My apologies. I am curious though with the collodi dead rider list, dont you find avater Leveticus a little hamstrung without the melee expert? You can live without the crow, although pale rider tends to almost always do well for me. Aside from once when an Ortega red joke red him and flipped trigger happy twice. It just seems like without at least two riders you aren't getting many of his synergies, and wasting a full avatar turn to summon one has rarely seemed like something I had time for, but I've mostly played him in tournament games which were ending by turn five. Also I usually only use 2 riders. But sometimes three. I think dead is the best as a minion but the worst with aLevi cause he's so high cost and his buff is meh. But I'm also a bit of a death star player. Comes from loving the models more than the rules.
