Hey Blank! I was just in Orlando buying figs at two stores: Rhubarb Games in Winter Park (Chris who works there plays Neverborn) & Coliseum of Games in Kississimee (I want to say off of 192 in the plaza with the Outback Steakhouse...). Coliseum had a pretty vast selection and had a few guys playing when I showed up (and I was just stopping by on the way to Disney...) Also, I am starting a group in Fort Lauderdale if you ever come down this way and want a game.. p.s. Check out the find an opponent thread - it has the usernames of folks on the boards and where they are located. I know there are a few in your area.

I disagree that the game is faster as a result of the back ref. More often than not I watch guys make marginal calls from 60 feet away, which I guess has the next effect of speeding up the game (if you are a fan of 5-4 or 4-4 play). I submit that the primary cause of inconsistency is, well, being inconsistent. If you have 2 refs calling to different personal standards of what is a hook, a trip, a hold AND the refs - being a third team on the ice but still having personal ego's and not wanting to step on each others toes - may delay in making a call or not make a call at all, or may call everything they think they see if they don't trust the guy closest to the play. This leads to terrible inconsistency in calling of penalties. QFT! These guys can barely get the offside right in many instances. I am at center-ice about 30 feet up and have the advantage of a perfectly unobstructed view. Its amazing how often these guys get it wrong. In any case, I am proud of the 'hawks but pissed because it will now be that much harder to get a job with them (I am a Wings fan in my personal time, but would not move back to Detroit, even if they offer me Director of Game Pres...that city is a dump)

There is one thing I'll say about the refs. Officiating was better when you had a three man system and the ref was sometimes a guy who had played in the show. This four man system is every kind of inconsistent and adds nothing to the game except another body on the ice as far as I can tell...

That's a parade I could enjoy being at! I hate the flyers with a passion!

Thanks E, I actually love talking hockey. (You should have heard the blue streak when I heard Tampa picked up Yzerman as GM!) I do alot of stuff with the organization, mostly in Game Presentation, but I have been involved in a Media / Community Relations capacity as well. On game nights I work with the on and off-ice officials to keep the TV timeouts running smoothly, assist the game pres folks by calling the game for them so they can figure out what the next music / video they are going to play will be and provide the PA announcer with all the info (icing, offside, penalties, time outs, empty net, one minute to play...etc.) On non-game nights, I write and act in scripts for their skits and help shoot the cheerleader's calendar (last few years it has been in the Bahamas).
