  1. All my showgirls are on wooden planks. I built a display board that has them arranged on a stage I had my coryphee in the"backstage" area behind a curtain. This allowed me to pin the coryphee to barrels and crates and the magnetize the crates and barrels like ratty has done with the tank parts.

  2. I love BattleFoam. i have a few of their bags for various things and I have ordered custom trays that are awesome. I love the trays they did for the "Corridor Space Game". However, I think they dropped the ball on this bag. I appreciate that they tried to go small. But, they went too small. It won't hold the figs that are currently available. Let alone the ones coming out. I will still be using their trays that I will create in the custom tray creator ( as I love their trays. But, I'll make my own toybox.

  3. Thanks for the advice! I am new to the game, but an old 40K player, and so far have the "Stick to your favourite list" and "list building against a specific opponent is unsporting" mindsets! Thinking about it, the fact that you officially don't choose your crew until after you know the objectives turns that on its head!

This took a while for me to wrap my head around. But, the truth of it is, you know what faction your opponent is bringing to the table AND what the objective is AND you get to choose your strategies. I have won many games against the dreamer by forgetting the main objective and focusing on my strategies and denying him the main objective. A lot of players fight like hell to get the main objective and forget about their strategies until the end (especially new players).

As far as troop selection. I'd forget tots pick up a young neph. Or Lelu and lilitu. Those two are nasty. Waldgeists are fun too. Especially with imaginary forests. And then there is always the very tasty Nekima. She helps with the mobility your force needs against the dreamer.

  4. I passed the link on for this thread to my brother who runs the animation lab at Columbia College in Chicago. he doesn't have an account and I asked if he had any quick tips after reading. Here's what he responded:

"I'm not sure where to start. For materials he can use whatever he wants. He's right in the stretch and squash limitations, though.

Replacement animation is an option and for examples you probably can't beat George Pal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_P%C3%A1l .

If he plans on using pins for limbs, I'd suggest working in alan wrenches or something to secure them in place so they don't fall out. Putting a silicon tip on the end of an alan or screw would make a tighter fit for the alan against aluminum wire. We've found there can be slippage other wise.

Cloth can be animated by hiding wires or affixing to a foil thick enough to hold shape. Hair can be latex with wire or any material that can hold shape (foil) or string braided around wire,

If he wants a whole different direction of brainstorming, there's always the cheapo armature of epoxy and wire.. Make a simple stick figure with aluminum wire and epoxy the joints, but first braid the spine and leg wires so they offer more resistance than head and arms.

    Cheap software

    Stop motion Pro (PC)

    http://www.stopmotionpro.com/

    iStopmotion (Mac)

    http://boinx.com/

    Frame Theif (Mac)

    http://www.framethief.com/

    The best software:

    Dragon Stop Motion (Both)

This was the software made by the people who did the United Dragon commercial and the like. At $275 it may be a little on the steep side, but is ridiculously cheap for pro-sumer software.

These are quick answers with out making an account. If he wants more specifics, I can make one or maybe exchange emails."

  5. I base each of my crews differently. but, I try to tie the faction together somehow. For instance, my guild crews are based as follows:

Perdita - Wooden planks of a ghost town type

Lady J - victorian streets from Wyrd

Sonia - cobblestone streets from another company

So, they all are street bases from different town styles. But, I've got a display base that ties the theme together by showing three different sections of the city of Malifaux.

  6. Another pinning trick to get your model to line up with the holes you drill in the base is to get some poster-tack putty. I get mine at the hardware store. but, it should be available at office supply places too. It's a little tricky to find as most employees don't even realize it exists. But, I've heard it called Blu Tack as well. It's used to put posters up on the wall.

Anyway, this stuff is cool because it stick lightly. So, you drill your pin holes in the model. Then you put you poster tack putty down on the base and press it firmly down. Then you position your fig where you want and push it into the putty. You may need to hold the putty down a bit when you remove the fig as it tends to get stuck in the holes in the feet of your model. Then you just drill where the little bumps are in the putty. and glue your pin in.

I pin EVERYTHING. I pin arms, I pin base inserts into the bases. I pin feet into the base inserts. I pin heads. I even pin the manequin arms in place. Pinning is really simple. It takes some patience and some really tiny drill bits. But, my guys and gals are solid. It's always funny to watch people gingerly pick up my figs at demos to move them. Then I smack over the figs and drop them just to show they won't come apart and they still pick them up like they are fragile little eggs.

  7. Yep

Adepticon is in the Chicago Burbs. I am just starting preliminary planning for it now.

    Dates are April 19th - 22nd.

If you don't make it that weekend but are in the Chi-town area, feel free to give me a PM and I will meet up for a game.

Ditto on what Dan said. I'm in the city proper. so, if you do end up in chicago, drop me a line and we'll game.

  8. Buying all the expansions and the main box does not get you a teddy :(. Other than that. You'll want to get a case to hold all the minis. Those little multi part guys are gonaa bounce around that box :). Great game. Looking forward to playing a bit as I spent the entire weekend demoing Malifaux. Hope everyone had a blast.
