Monthly Painting Challenge - August

If you have some pictures of your Gaki to hand that would be fantastic! -
Monthly Painting Challenge - September

A more modest target for September; Molly & the Necrotic Machine for 17ss. Let's see if I can get these done early, and get a bit more in as a bonus. 'Brown -

@Joachim these look fantastic, congratulations! Can you tell me the technique you used for the emissary's robes? It looks exactly what I wanted to achieve on my Gaki. Well done once again, lovely work. -

2nd Mulligan for me too @Franchute; turns out both me and my partner starting new jobs in the same month whilst the kids are on school holidays had an impact on my painting time - who would've guessed? Will be aiming for a more modest target for the remaining months - but I'm definitely going to get there. 'Brown -

Ok, getting ahead of the curve for this month - all my pledge models are already built! Molly, Necrotic machine, Kentauroi, that damned MZ (why won't he die?) and 2 Goryo started last month for a total of 41ss. Have a great month all, 'Brown. -
Monthly Painting Challenge - July

Ok, I didn't get the stuff I wanted to get done finished. In the end I managed the Jury, Sun Quiang and the Malifaux Child (base) for 18ss. I'll do more next month I swear. -
I agree with this. I know tactical options and variety are considered strengths in Malifaux, but as a less experienced player regularly playing against strong opponents, it's really easy to get so overwhelmed by the complexity of your opponent's crew & synergies (and indeed your own) that you don't actually learn anything from the experience. It might detract from the very top player's experience, but I feel a shallower learning curve would keep me enthusiastic about the game.

Monthly Painting Challenge - July

Great work on the airbrush @Caedrus, you've inspired me to dig mine out for my riflemen. I thought I'd give an update on my limited progress so far this month. I've done all the blocking and washing for Sun Quiang (similar bases are also completed for the two Goryo). I've learnt a valuable lesson this month; it was too hot when I undercoated my models for this month, and the undercoat went grainy. I've tried to recover them by a judicious use of some stiff brushing, they'll have to do. I've also decided to get my Malifaux Child done (because he's just a base, and therefore very easy. Cheers all, 'Brown. -

Apologies, I posted this in the June thread by mistake. Here is my pledge for July - going to put Guild down for a while and get some Yan Lo reinforcements finished: Sun Quiang for 8ss 2 Goryo for 14ss My final and seemingly unfinishable mindless zombie for 2ss So; 4 models and 24ss. I'm secretly hoping that I'll finish these and get some more at least started this month. Have a great month everyone. -

Hi all, I managed to finish a field reporter and the rail golem last month - 15ss. Hoping to get a bit more productive this month now that real life has settled down a bit. Cheers, 'Brown -

Hello all, After a turbulent May which distracted me from painting for personal reasons, I am determined to carry on with this challenge. @Franchute I'll obviously use my first mulligan for May, I'll post pictures of my pledge for this month later today hopefully. Cheers, 'Brown -

Seconded. Painting nice highlights on large flat areas of material is something I've yet to master, and I feel the lack of that particular skill when painting Guild! -

@Franchute, here are my completed models for April: Field reporter: Thrall: Monster hunter proxy: Monster hunter proxy 2: For a total of 25ss. Painting the thrall's base and static grass/varnishing will happen tonight, along with prepping models for this month. As an aside, I've just tipped over 50% of my Malifaux collection painted, so this painting challenge is working! Have a great month ahead all, 'Brown -

I'm taking things down to the wire this month. Witchling Thrall is finished, everything else is one or two little bits away from done. Will post pictures on the 30th! Great mage BTW! -
Monthly Painting Challenge - March

Apologies for my omission @Franchute. 40ss for the 5 models I originally pledged (Lucius, The Scribe, Doppelganger, Tannen & Sokolov) - 52 if you count the guild hounds too. But I only signed up for the enforcer level pledge (16-30ss), so I'm happy to just count Lucius, The Scribe, Doppelganger & Tannen to get me to 30ss. Whatever fits best! Thanks! -

This month I'm continuing to try and get 8-9 models done - want to get all of Guild painted this year. Witchling thrall - 9ss Jury - 8ss Thalarian queller - 6ss 2 Field reporters - 8ss 2 Guild guard - 6ss 2 Monster hunter proxies - 12ss -
Monthly Painting Challenge - March
Strangely Brown replied to Franchute's topic in Miniature Showcase
Ok, got everything finished (in March I promise!) - actually had two days to spare to base & varnish. I had enough time to spare to complete the guild hounds that I had hanging around at the 'sprayed black and drybrushed metal' stage. Not entirely happy with these; I know I can do better. I'm still waiting for Amazon to deliver my daylight lamp, so I'm struggling to paint under a yellow light source several feet from my painting table. The main effect of this is that highlights are less crisp and end up duller than they appear as I'm applying them. I need to practise some more for sure, but I'm convinced that the lighting is a factor. Oh well, maybe next month. It's not like I'm running out of models to experiment on! Good luck to everyone for the coming month! 'Brown -

@Viruk & @Franchute just like to express my best wishes for both your little ones' speedy recoveries. I have two young children myself, I can't imagine what that must be like. I hope and trust that they will make full recoveries x -
What's your new hotness? What has you excited?

That's awesome. Thanks very much for explaining! -

I can see how you'd drag models to you with a beckoner and a doppel copying the lure (and that seems to be the Ply tactic for my belle-toting colleagues), but I can't see how 1 AP from Lucius gets you to a point where you can get the doppel into their faces turn one. Could you possibly explain it using very small words, and maybe a crayon drawing to illustrate? Thank you very much in advance -

The only one I'm sold on Master/Strat wise so far is Perdita into Symbols. Not only does Nino's spotter ability work wonderfully for protecting your symbols, it comes paired with Punish the Weak, which should always be achievable with Perdita Only having to pick a crew to deal with one scheme (and standing near some symbols) helps this bear of very little brain... -

Bit of a WIP on Lucius. So far the only thing I've completed is his mask. This is my first attempt at gold NMM. On reflection (no pun intended!) there are probably easier shapes to practice NMM on! -

Thank you For dead skin I use Vallejo pale flesh, and wash with a mix of GW flesh wash/GW purple wash. Then just apply layers of Vallejo pale skin thinned with Lahmium medium. For slightly fresher dead I use Carroburg Crimson wash instead of purple in the wash mix.
