  1. Welcome to the forums. I'm about 4 or 5 hours east of you. I started off with Seamus and McMourning, but have collected many more. If you like Lilith, I would recommend her. She has pretty good potential as a starting player's crew, and enough subtleties that you can grow with her as well. Stay clear of Pandora, Somer, and Leveticus until you get a feel for the game. They can all take a little getting used to.
  2. The question wasn't posed to me, but I'll give it a go... A brick and mortar store is a physical retail establishment, where an Internet store isn't necessarily. The physical retail store has a much higher overhead. Even if the FLGS is an owner run establishment, there are still numerous higher expenses. Without getting into too extreme of a list, there is: rent (you need a higher visibility area, and sales floor space that an internet store does not; that is if the Internet store even has a warehouse location), the electric/gas/water bills from running a retail store, store supplies, fixture costs and upkeep, and then there is the unfortunate expense of theft (happens in every retail environment). Or to take a more example-based view... Store #1 is a Brick and Mortar location, his rent is $3500 a month, his power bill averages about $400, he generally loses about 2% of sales to shrink, the supplies in the store run about $200 per month, and his repair and upkeep, averaged monthly, runs about $100. He works one employee part time, and pays them minimum wage for 20 hours, or about $638 per month. The margin on his merchandise (sale price minus cost) is around 40%, and he makes about $15,000 per month in sales. Store #2, an Internet-based business, rents an office space for about $800 a month. The power bill averages about $200, and as the only employee, he experiences zero theft. His packing supplies run about $200 a month, and his repair and upkeep (including web-based fees) run around $300 per month. He sells his merchandise at a much lower margin than the brick and mortar store, and his margin is only 20%. He also generates $15,000 per month in sales. With the above examples, both store would generate $1500 in Net Profit for the month. The biggest difference is that the Internet store could do it with much cheaper prices. On top of that, the Internet store could reach a wider clientele than the brick and mortar store, and would most likely generate much higher sales. The higher volume of merchandise is what keeps the Internet stores open. if that merchandise was going to be purchased anyway, that means that it is lost sales for someone else...
  3. That is one of the things that i am seeing less and less of here. Maybe it is more of a regional thing?
  4. Oddly, RPGs are what I tend to buy at my local stores, and miniatures are what I tend to order online. I tend to buy RPG books one or two at a time, and miniatures in larger groups. The key to operating any successful retail business lies in the ability to sell enough merchandise at enough of a profit to cover your expenses, as well as to take home a paycheck at the end of the day. In a market such as the gaming industry, there is really not that huge of a customer base. If you cannot generate sales in some key product lines, it makes it hard to pay the bills. I have seen gaming stores over the years begin with carrying only RPGs or RPGs and comics, to stocking a variety of other items: board games, video games, swords, themed apparel, action figures and others. So there is a strong merit in the idea of changing with the times. Regardless, I hope that they stick around; I don't spend as much time in them as I used to, but there are some fond memories from over the years. By the way, Lalochezia, the bottom of the Community page says that it is your 26th today, so happy birthday!
  5. I was out traveling for the first half of the week, and I really became aware of all of video stores with "Store Closing" or "Store Closed" signs. It seems that these stores are disappearing more and more due to the online movie download sites, as well as the "Redbox" $1.00 a day units that are scattered all over. This got me thinking about both the "Fledgling Local Game Stores," as well as the online stores that offer deeper discounts than their brick and mortar counterparts. I have purchased almost all of my Malifaux minis through a couple of the 20% off Internet stores. But the more I think into these things, it makes me wonder if these purchases are going to lead to the disappearance of these little shops. I have definitely noticed much fewer of them over the years. I'd be interested to hear other outlooks on this.
  6. Oops... a bit of a self-correction here; Victoria's "For the Money" means that she can only hire Mercenaries. The Gremlins are not Mercenaries, so she could not hire them either.
  7. Welcome to the boards! There is no restriction on the Gremlins, but a Leveticus crew could not hire them due to his restrictions.

    hihi

    Welcome to the forums!
  9. Good luck on your first crew. Also, check out the game/opponent finder forum. You may find someone close to you that is willing to help you out a bit. http://wyrd-games.net/forum/showthread.php?t=6986
  10. http://www.coolminiornot.com/article/aid/12 Coolminiornot.com has a lot of great articles on photography, but this one gives you a good overview of the basics. Hope it helps!
  11. Are you going to stay with the pink theme on all of it? I have to admit, Pink Papa would be something to see.
  12. Looks nice. I can't wait to see the color version.
  13. Welcome to the boards! Nico is my favorite Master as well.
  14. Well written, and an interesting list; you have definitely put some time into this. Do you adjust the crew any on a tough Strategy flip? It seems like Rubble or Bog and a Claim Jump would be pretty rough.
  15. Sadly, I have everything produced (multiples of many). I am waiting for delivery on: 1 Enslaved Nephilim, 1 Doppleganger, 1 pack of Hollow Waifs, and another pack of Gremlins. Can't have too many of the Gremlins...
  16. The Belles are no joke, regardless of who you put them with. Undress can be a high Def killer, and multiple Belle's casting Lure can Push an enemy model into a very compromising position insanely quickly. I was recently able to move Nino 16 inches from a sniper position into charge range of McMourning in a single turn.
  17. At 10 points, Hamelin can be pricey. But if you are having a big problem with Mindless Zombies and corpse counters, he can clear a 6" radius with Hungry Rats, then lay down some serious model control with a few good Masks in your hand.
  18. The movement potential is pretty impressive, but like Headcase pointed out, if you get too far ahead of Nico, you won't be able to take advantage of the bolster. I'm not sure what the benefit would be of taking the SPAs as opposed to, say Killjoy, without being able to exploit the movement potential. All the same, I have to applaud the thought that you put into it. It's that kind of thinking that's always seems to evade me.
  19. Awesome! I have around 20,000 points in 40K Chaos, but it took me over a decade to get there. Just have a little bit of patience and you will get there. I bought a lot of it in one order, but I had to wait for annual bonus to come in so i could hide it from my fiance. :peep:
  20. I have played either with or against every Master. However, I will always be a Ressurectionist at heart, and i play them about 2 to 1 over all of the others combined.
  21. I had never given a thought to extra suits. Do you need another suit? No, but I have to admit, I kind of like the idea. But it seems like you would need a new deck of Fate Cards for it. I know my deck has started showing a bit of wear, and newer cards mixed into it would really stand out.
  22. I grew up with such a serious crush for Lisa Bonet that I still can't listen to Lenny Kravitz' music. I'll look forward to seeing the crews posted!
