  1. Thanks Ann! Still haven't seen anything online yet. Going to have to do some serious mining I think.
  2. This is a nice metallic tutorial Tim. I'm thinking you must have gone slightly bonkers painting all of them at the same time though!
  3. That's a good idea Tim. Considering that Darkson Designs is coming up with a second book on painting, I can only assume that the first one sold well and it might be something to look into down the road. Hrmmm. That gives me some ideas really (eyeballin' a couple of top notch painters on the boards ....). Ya'll might be getting a PM from me here in the near future, pondering something right now.
  4. I just did a quick search for Mageknight Metal in Google and came up with this. http://www.connectstores.com/ralpartha/sp_31675.html Now I know for a fact that I have many of these miniatures to give out as prizes from Wizkids (thank you!) and although the packaging paint jobs leave something to desire, the miniatures themselves really aren't that bad and I think some of them can be down right good if given a bit of time and paint. I personally can't find the studio paint job pictures but believe me, they are nothing special (I'm being nice), but the miniatures really aren't that bad. For instance, here are some that are painted up at the painting clinic. http://www.paintingclinic.com/ward/ralpartha/mageknight.htm Anyhow, we'll call this the 'Wizkids Challenge' and I'll see if I can work up something with Wizkids and we'll come up with some rules/guidelines/timelines right after the Rotten Harvest contest. Sound like a plan?
  5. By 'other universe' what do you have in mind? Something like Orks running around New London or the like or something like the Wheel of Time and so forth? Whole new 'world' with different rules, laws, etc? Speak up peeps, lets hear what you are interested in. As for starting the story - I'll do that if no one else wants to, I'm rather keen to get this started up.
  6. (laughing) Eric makes me out to be an Ogre. Really, I'm not .. more or a mean Troll perhaps, but certainly not an Ogre. I'm sure if everyone is extremely pushy and demanding, we can get Eric to do both the tutorial and a very bruised up contest miniature for the Rotten Harvest (laughing - joke).
  7. Damnit, ya'll are going to make me buy this DVD! And LA - I agree with you 100%.
  8. I just scared the shiat out of the dog by laughing so loudly when I read this. :congrats:
  9. I think that sounds like a damn good idea, and more to the point, I've got a lot of these Wizkid miniatures to give away for the contest, which really some of them are rather nice. Hell, I would buy about half of the ones that are in that box right now as I honestly do like some of the elf like women they have in there and a few of the others, like the Dwarf Beserker .. etc. How about after the contest, when packages have gone out and there are an abundance of Wizkid miniatures in hands from the contest (and ya'll be sure to thank them damnit!) we all see about doing the paint jobs on the Wizkids miniatures and everyone post the picture of their miniature along with the picture of the studio paint job and see if it makes a difference. Sound like a plan?
  10. Now that is just a damn fine article Tim. I like the fact that you took the time to list all of your material, the exact paints and then sat down and explained it for everyone step by step and kept pictures along with it. Very nice! I have a miniature that would fit this very nicely actually and I think I'll give it a try after the Rotten Harvest contest. Thank Tim for taking the time!
  11. Whoooo ... well as Wizkids is a sponsor I've got a direct line to someone if ya'll want to try something and see about submitting it to Wizkids and see what their thoughts are. No promises but they might be interested in what you have to say on the subject. And yes Eric, I'll sic Maya and Ann on you in full force if you don't get a damn contest entry in this time! Now, that being said, Wizkids has sent me a VERY large box of miniatures (I think there are eighty or so miniatures in there) of their new line of Mageknight Metals and I have to say that there are actually some fairly good miniatures in there and I was myself surprised at some of the paint jobs that they marketed with the miniatures. Matter of fact, I think I'll join in on this myself. Not going to snag anything out of the goodies box here mind you, but I will go out and pick up a miniature or two and have some fun with it. Anyone have suggestions on which ones? -- As for studio paint jobs, I agree with Eric completely on this one. I think ultimately it is going to be the sculpting ability of the individual that creates the miniature and the direction and design that the company takes it that will determine whether or not a miniature will be 'good' or not, but the old saying 'the cover sells the book' is very true in this case. Besides, how many of you go and look for studio paint jobs, or troll the internet looking for other paintings of the same miniature in order to get ideas (or ego boosts)? I do it for practically every miniature I lay a brush on.
  12. New miniature for Warmachine. Damnit, they stole my miniature idea (smile). Love it!
  13. Post away Tim. Drop them in the tutorials section (where Eric's is).
  14. Eureka Miniatures releases a new line of 28mm Soviets from the late 80's and Zombies. http://eurekamin.com.au
  15. This is the damndest way of painting that I have every read about Eric, with the whole paint on, paint off (no Karate Kid cracks damn you) technique. I've always learned to start with the darker colors first and then bring them up which has worked for me, but I feel that I have really leveled out of late and either don't progress, or at worse, regress a bit. I've got a rather 'basic' miniature in mind that I think that I'll try this on and see just how things progress. Thank you for sharing!
  16. I just read a little blurb somewhere that Kenzerco had a set of Knights of the Dinner Table miniatures casted and I have to say I haven't seen any of these at all, though KODT was a favorite of mine at one time. Anyone seen these? Might be interested in getting my hands on them for the giggles of it.
  17. It came to my attention that we needed a tutorial section as there are some great guides out there for painting, sculpting, modeling, photography .. whatever you can think up and a few that I know that I've missed. If you have a tutorial that you would like to share with others, please feel free. It need not be exclusive to the Wyrd website and it does not need to be moderated before being posted. Please include pictures and descriptions where available, and should you need space to host the pictures if you do not have an external source, please contact me and I'll be happy to provide the space. In advance, thank you for your time and efforts, and more importantly, for sharing!
  18. (laughing) The little buggers are smarter than me I admit it, though I still have size on them for the moment and can lord it over them until they decide to make it a three on one, then it becomes a bit of a problem for me. Yeah I suppose. Personally, I like the old Looney Tunes (it was Tunes wasn't it, not Toons?). Bugs, Daffy, Marvin the Martian .. all of them were fantastic. Of course they had drinking, smoking and shooting back then too, but I loved every bit of it. These days though, I agree, there are some damn sad cartoons out there, or what they are calling cartoons. Most of them are just brutally warped.
  19. Well, we have four lined up as of right now. How about we give the rest of this week to allow for folks to sign up from the get-go and while we're at it, see if we can come to some sort of agreement on what type of styr we want to write and the direction to take it. Speak up. If you see something here that catches your interest (multiples are fine, we're going to have to whittle them down though over the next week or so) or have something else in mind, toss it up. Interested in hearing about it. At work at the moment, but when I get in tonight I'll read over what we have here and offer up a few suggestions of my own.
  20. Is she actually ending them at seven or just killing someone off? I'm curious now. As for Robert Jordan - god yes, that man is a mess when it comes to his books. The first six were good, after that, I've lost interest, though I understand they get interesting again at book 10. Just don't feel like finding out so terribly much (heh). I would like to see a condensed movie on the Wheel of Time series though!
  21. I don't know about you, but when I was growing up, Saturday morning was a special day for me. I was up at the crack of dawn, sometimes before, fixing a bowl of cereal or raiding poptarts and dorritos if I thought I could get away with it, and turning on the TV and laying down across the floor to watch Saturday morning cartoons that would usually take me from 6am to 11am easily. Unless there was something my family had planned, I never missed it. It was CARTOONS! So fast forward almost two decades ... hrmm, almost three decades if I'm to tell the truth damnit. Anyhow, fast forward to the present where I have three children of my own and it is the damndest thing but they don't care about Saturday morning cartoons. Hell, I can barely get them out of bed - and my oldest, which is 11, will sleep in until 1pm if you let her (child has the habbits of a teenager already, and the attitude). It seems with the advent of the Cartoon Network, Nick and numerous other channels, that cartoons are no longer something for Saturday mornings now, but for any time of the day, of any day of the week. It's odd, but I'm kind of bummed out about this. I tried to get them interested in Saturday morning cartoons originally when they were small. Would actually jump up out of bed at the crack of dawn, go roust the little faukers and turn on the TV while we cuddled up on the couch and ate poptarts and dorritos (I know, I'm a terrible father). They fell asleep. Or showed no interest. Or made me turn the channel. These days, I sleep in, and so do they. No Saturday morning cartoons. Damnit I miss them.
  22. Couple of new ones from MSB. Elephant one seems interesting, but the moose one doesn't do anything for me. www.msbtoys.com
  23. Nice stuff Tim. Are you planning on hitting the GD this year with that one in the middle there? Like the Thrud a lot, and I'm starting to sound like a broken record in the forums, but the gems are top on that. I'm going to have to find something with a shiat load of gems just to get in some practice! Bottom one is a nice one as well - nice subdued colors. Can't help think that you could spice up the hem of the cloak a bit with a bit of freehand which I've seen you do in the past (something small). Great stuff!
  24. Hi Tim! Pleased to see you have made your way over - I was wondering if I would have to pull you kicking and screaming (smile). For those of you that don't know Tim, he's a very cool individual that just got back into painting after a little stint off but unlike me, he actually has some talent (chuckle). Give us some pictures Tim - and hope to see you join the Rotten Harvest contest.
  25. Absolutely love it. I know the reason why he couldn't be used for the Rotten Harvest contest but I have to say I think he would have been very well accepted! Beautiful work Eric, and of course, fantastic sculpting Steve (not like he reads here, but still - hehe).
