icatsai 360 Posted October 3, 2017 Report Share Thanks for the comments, it was real fun to do. Yes @Vega, the shadow depicts the bandersnatch but I wanted it to feel like it was growing out of the shadows created by the miner's lantern so his own shadow was covered and absorbed by the bandersnatch's. I hope that helps explain it? Quote Link to comment
Stark 857 Posted October 4, 2017 Report Share Awesome work, idea and great execution! Actually you did very huge job for this natural light. It's pretty hard, I have tried to do similar effect on my own work, but I like your realization much more) Quote Link to comment
icatsai 360 Posted October 4, 2017 Report Share Thank you all for the comments, I haven't tried much OSL before so it was a good chance to learn. My job is to work with lights for theatre shows so I do understand the properties of light and how it behaves on different surfaces, but it's still hard to create this with paint. I'm glad you think I have been somewhat successful. I actually used a small torch to simulate the lantern light on the primed model to get an idea of where the shadows would fall and the best way to position the mini in the scene. neveroddoreven 114 Posted October 8, 2017 Report Share What I like most about this, is the actual colour of the lit area. You haven't made the lantern's cast light an oversaturated yellow (which I always tend to do), and it looks all the more natural for it. Love it. Quote Link to comment
Infern0 49 Posted October 8, 2017 Report Share The whole diorama looks extremely realistic, and I really enjoy the natural pallete used on it The way the shadow fades away is magnificent Quote Link to comment

Yeah that's an easy trap to fall into and I was very conscious of not wanting to make it feel too unnatural. I really just painted him normally except for making the shadows much, much darker. The lantern light areas got a very, very thin glaze of transparent yellow mixed with a touch or orange but it was really watered down. I kinda wish that some areas on the base were even darker but overall I'm pretty pleased with how he turned out. thanks for your comments Quote Link to comment

I'm just annoyed at not filling the join in his arm better but I panicked about the timescale! Quote Link to comment
