Archie's upgrade with Focus

Archie gains Focus +1 if he discards/removes "Doc found a squid today".

So if he takes a "What did it just throw" action and discards that upgrade, can he then use this Focus +1 for the shot, since it says "In order to take this Action discard an Upgrade..."? It's wording sounds to me, like you discard the upgrade before taking the shot or is it still "the same action" meaning you gain Focus +1 while shooting and thus can't use focus until after the action is done?

What about the trigger "Extra pieces" with the "immediately take the Stapled on Action", can you use this newly gained Focus +1 there?

The distinction doesn't matter.  Because Focused is used during the declaration of the action, and the upgrade either gets discarded before the action is declared or during the action declaration.  Sort of like how declaring the parameters and spending the AP for an action happen at the same time and sometimes need to happen in different sequences due to various special rules.

Option #1:  Archie discards the upgrade before declaring the action, so it has Focused +1 before it declares the action.

Option #2:  As part of declaring the action, Archie discards the upgrade.  Before specifying the target, so that it's still the "Declare Action and Spend AP" step of resolving the action, it reduces Focused.

So if Archie takes the "What did it just throw?" action and discards the upgrade in order to do so, it would be able to reduce Focused for that same action.

Obligatory repetition that the word "immediately" doesn't mean anything special, other than emphasis that you don't wait until you feel like doing whatever is specified.  Especially since it's an 'after damaging' trigger.

If the model has Focused +X, and it has a trigger that allows or makes it take an action, it'll be able to use the Focused rules when it declares the action.
