hunter shadow and hoffman drawn to metal interaction

floso

Question

When the hunter is in base contact with Hoffman and the hunters target moves, will the hunters walk toward target with the shadow action , allow hoffman to be able to push up to the hunter with drawn to metal? Been checking all the faqs and rulebook., but can't work this out. Thanks!

That is part of the issue it is unclear, which it is. The wording of shadow is "target an enemy model in los. Each time the target takes a walk or charge action while in this models los, this model may move up to.its wk toward that model after it completes the action."

Drawn to Metal: If a friendly construct o Ht 2 or more announces a move action while in base contact with this model, you may push this model into base contact with the construct after the move.

Shadow: target an enemy model in LOS. Each time the target takes a Walk or Charge action while in this model's LOS, this model may move up to its Wk toward the model after it completes the action.

I emphasized the important parts of the two abilities above. Because the hunter is not announcing a move action but is just moving up to its walk (basically it's not announcing the use of an action (using an AP) that moves it) then drawn to metal will not pull Hoffman along.

Think of Shadow similar to a lure that the model with Shadow gets to choose when and how far it moves.

I'm not sure about that. Shadow: "this model may move ...", so the Hunter's target moves and the Hunter player says "the Hunter will use Shadow to move ..." - doesn't that count as "announces a move action"? Or is it only an action if you're spending a point on it (surely not as that would screw a lot of other abilities on various models)?

It's not announcing a move action, just like when a model is lured its not announcing a move action. The movement from Shadow is a movement effect, but not a move action.

Page 32 in the Rules Manual and the 1.5 Rulebook explain what the definition of an Action is. General movement actions are further detailed on page 36 of the Rules Manual and page 34 of Rulebook 1.5.

In the Shadow ability, because it says:

may move up to it's Wk toward the model

instead of:

may Walk toward the model

It is not performing a movement action, but instead being affected by a movement effect. The bolded Wk instead of Walk is what helps show the difference.
