Pandora Self-Loathing Question

This question arose in a casual conversion and nobody had the rulebooks handy to confirm/deny any arguments. Searching for the answer proved fruitless.

So, the situation is that Pandora successfully casts Self-Loathing on Hamelin the Plagued. On the ensuing damage flip, she flips Weak Damage. Does she do 0 damage? Or does Black Staff's ability trigger and do 2 damage?

If the ability is an always on ability, such as Lady J's Broadsword or Lilith's Sword, both of which give to the flip, you would get those. If the ability is a Trigger, you do not.

Basically with Self Loathing all you get is a damage flip, and Damage flips do NOT activate triggers.

So in Hamelin's case, since its an always on ability, yes the ability, being that its always on, is taken into account and Hamelin would suffer 2 damage from his staff, and he gets a blight counter.

I probably should have wrote it as "Or does this trigger Black Staff's ability and do 2 damage?" to avoid the confusion of which version of "trigger" I meant. *wink*
