Y'all Watch This

Swan

Question

I apologize for this, but looking through the forums created more questions then answers.

This was asked:

Can you use this ability if you are in melee?

WEiRD sKeTCH answered with this response

Quote:

As long as an ability, spell, attack doesn't have a :ranged in its rg or descrition, it can be used in melee.

http://www.wyrd-games.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10221

(2) Ya'll Watch This: This model makes a Boomstick Strike with Dg 2/2 :blast /4 :blast :blast. All models within 2" of this model suffer 2 Dg. Sacrifice this model.

And we had 2 opposed answers from henchmen:

1) If any part of an ability fizzles, you don't complete the rest of it (RM, pg 6, first bullet of Timing).

So the Strike, being first, would fail because you're in melee, and you wouldn't do anything else after that because you can't complete it. So you could legally do Y'all Watch This, but it wouldn't actually accomplish anything but be a fancy way to Pass

2) It won't necessarily fizzle though. Abilities override the core rules, so just like (0) Smell Gear overrides not being able to charge a model that's in melee and (1) Blades and Bullets overrides not being able to shoot a model in melee, (2) Y'all Watch This should logically follow those same exceptions

which is the correct answer to this question, can this ability be used in melee?

Can you be more specific? Is it specifically due to the wording on the targeting within range of the spell that overrides the core targeting rules for a :ranged attack?

It looks like you answered your own question.

In the Spell's description it states that you make the strikes within the range of the Spell (2" which is also the Judges Melee Range).

Again. Wizards did it.

On the same subject, if you obey a Specialist to do detonate tanks and he's within 1 inch of another model in his own crew (which would be an enemy model for the duration of obey) can he make the strikes as the talent says or does the fact he's in melee (do to being an enemy model now to the model in his melee range) override this? Happy to post in new thread, but seems a very similar question.

It's a pulse, so the specialist never actually takes the Strike action. It's just resolved as a Strike.
