Soulstone Sacrifice vs Soulstone Discard

edonil

Question

Alright, so looking for a clarification of terms, and curious as to what the difference is. When you discard a Soulstone, it is removed from the game. However, in Twisting Fates, when talking about the Manifestation Requirements and stalling the Manifest Clock, the book makes a specific point to mention that you are sacrificing, not discarding, a Soulstone.

A Master can sacrifice (remove from its Soulstone Pool, not discard) one Soulstone each time it activates to avoid taking this Action.

Now...what's the difference here between Sacrificing a Soulstone, and Discarding a Soulstone? Don't they end up being the same? Or is there some mechanic I'm missing?

I believe most of the intention behind using the word sacrifice as opposed to discard is that Collette may discard a stone for free each turn. Sacrificing requires that there be an actual stone in the pool which is then removed from the game.

It also may come into play with more rules/mechanics down the road but that is the only example that I can think of where the discrepancy matters.

You are correct most of the time it will behave in exactly the same fashion.
