Melee range and blocking mechanics

Voldrak

Question

Hi,

I am trying to clarify how does Melee range and blocking (preventing someone from walking out of melee range) actually works.

Can you basically safely move inside a character's melee range without being blocked? Does the block only occur if you try to walk out of their melee range?

Example:

Taelor walks up to Bishop and attacks him at a 3 inch range.

Bishop activates and is presented with 2 options.

1- Walk away from Taelor causing her to try and block him so he cannot move away.

2- Close in on Taelor to get within 1 inch of her and attack her.

In case number 2, if Bishop walks towards Taelor, can she try to block him so as to keep him still and unable to get to her?

nope you can dance around them singing "Hey ho the witches dead" and they don't get to block you. A model only gets a blocking action if the enemy tries to leave their melee range. For models with two different melee weapons, they can only block when the enemy leaves their longest melee range. EG Teddys have Bite 1":melee and Claw 2":melee. You can't make a blocking attack when the enemy leaves the Bite's range, only when they leave the Claw's range.

You can make a charge against any model your not engaged with, even if you are in combat, however your opponent would get a disengaging strike everytime you left one of his models max melee ranges. If he hit you your movement would be stopped and your action would immediately end.
