Now this has been resolved, if a model want to charge a enemy model ( beyond another enemy model (A) and in doing so passes in and out of A's melee range, can A make a blocking strike? If so, what happens? Activation ends? My rulebook's on order and I don't have the pdf to hand.

Defensive stance is the first action a model must do in its activation, unless that's a simple list of key abilities to keep him honest .
