Werecat
Hey everyone! Been planing for awhile to use some silicone molds to create some ice pillars for Rasputina. I'm hoping that someone out there has experience doing this, and could answer a few specifics for me. First off, What sort of silicone should I use for the mold? Should I just use stuff from the hardware store? Second, I'll be building the initial model out of foam, and I assume I'll need some sort of releasing agent. Any ideas on that? Can I use something as simple as cooking spray? And finally, I'm planning on using some sort of water effect product for terrain making. Anyone have any experience with that? Any reason I should be using something else? Thanks in advance guys!
Ratty
I use Siligum.. It's really good for quick an dirty molding, it reproduces fine detail, takes about 5 minutes to set, self releases... apsolutely amazing stuff. The legs on this epic model were done using it notice how it picked up all the details on the cogs from my original scratch built leg. Though I added extra detail afterwards. Dragosani
I also like siligum which is perfect for small part. Other way is to use Molding alginate http://www.studioartshop.com/acatalog/3431p.jpg , it's cheap and works very well for "simple" work (like ice pillar). For the "master" blue foam works well. About releasing adgent, Siligum don't really need one because is a bit "greasy"; but i prefer be sure and use "Vaseline" (sorry don't know the translation). For alginate, it's prepared with water so it won't stick to the master. To obtain the pillar you could use plaster or resin plaster (i prefer this one), then paint it and use gloss varnish. Or you could use Crystal resin http://www.studioartshop.com/acatalog/7551p.jpgtainted with blue ink (but i don't know if it works with alginate). At last there is a good tutorial (but in french sorry ;-) ) http://www.helldorado.fr/figurines/cristal-de-puissance.php

Ratty
have you considered chiselling them out of real ice each game
Werecat
Ha ha, no.... but, I have considered trying to make some sort of drip rig so I can make an icicle in my freezer, then mould that
