I totally agree that people online tend to ignore a lot of tools (many consider Bete Noire pretty bad for example), but I think the flak was over the perceived implication that other Guild players don't know how to position well.

The commentary on the guild player base (which includes some incredible players in the VWS - I'm a better player just from having encountered them) probably put people's backs up.

That said, your underlying point - there is a lot of unexplored power in a lot of crews... I totally support!

If I had listened to some of the great players online, I would not have played Molly. But she carried me to tenth place in the world series so far! So definitely good to put your own take on models.

Yeah, that's what I like about this game. Despite the power levels and tier lists you can do well with any Master. I don't see much talk about McMorning, but there's a local player in my meta who kicks butt with him. I'd imagine for someone who loves Guild Masters, that situation would be no different.

  2. Getting my core box painted up and I have a few things on order (Lord of Steel, Dreadnought, and Electrocutioners if curious). I see a lot of hay made about the Rail Gunners and Engineers, and for good reason. I was wondering how many I should pick up of each. I was thinking 2, but wondered if I should buy a third Engineer. And how many Marauders? No more than 2, obviously but would I even want to field 2 at any point?

Kinda weird that noone has yet mentioned Desper LaRaux as the Assassin's Creed sampling. Was my first thought, based on the picture provided.

Also, if you go with Lynch for the Cthulhu-ish vibe as @muraki suggested, it'd be a legal, if possibly not very efficient pairing (am not a competitive enough player to know how well they pair).

Though the Hucksters you get with him are useful in most Ten Thunders (which is what Lynch is) crews. And McCabe as a second Keyword option provides some significant variation for different scheme and strategy pools.

Need to correct you. Hucksters are Wastrels, so they're OOK for Lynch. I believe you mean McCabe. He's the one that uses Hucksters and Desper LaReux.

  4. To add to this (since I also have an Android phone) I noticed two issues myself.

    1. When building an Abyssinia Company, the free Abyssinian Assets can be selected but will not attach to the selected Unit.

    2. In Game and Company, I cannot switch a card to its Glory side. It snaps back to the Standard side each time. It works fine in Cards.

I think its too late in my area. Not only did Corona kill most actual tabletop activity in general in the last year everyone i know that bought in have binned their TOS minis. Not shelved. Not resold. They threw them away in the trash because they thought it was simply a case of "it tried, it didn't get a market, its a shame but i need the space and will not play this again" and that sucks but even if Corona didn't happen post release has always felt like the sentiment from Wyrd was "you do the work, word of mouth the product for us" to a degree that you just don't see with Malifaux.

I hope it does pick up but right now it looks like Wyrd thinks cross over rules for Malifaux will draw people in as though it wasn't mostly the Malifaux audience who bought all the product already. There is probably some Malifaux players who didn't buy in who might be more tempted but if this was done at release it wouldn't now have the added struggle of "i heard this game flopped/is dead" to put off those people. Is there a significant audience who had no interest and never bought into Malifaux who will pick this game over 40k, Age of Sigmar or hell even Warmachine or some other established wargame? Time will tell but if even the most positive outlooks are "i'm going to have to do the legwork and push it myself hard" its going to be an uphill struggle.

I get what you're saying, but at some point the community does have to do some work, even if it's just through word of mouth. It sucks, but I can hardly blame Wyrd for putting their eggs in the Malifaux basket currently. Even if it's just a couple of dedicated people, the magic of the Internet can amplify the word and get people in other areas interested, making it more profitable and thus much more likely that the game will continue. Think of it not as advertising, think of it as getting in on the ground floor of the next big thing.

  6. To add to it, I think to be considered Undead you have to be brought back in some way outside your own control and power. Revenants return because the spirit in the body is convinced that it wasn't supposed to die and still has a reason to roam the earth. Actually, I wonder if Revenants can be considered to be beings of pure magic, or even a particularly strong expression of the Grave Spirit's power.

  7. Personally I'm hoping for some more in depth looks at some of the Neverborn power players. We have scant information on how things are run in each Neverborn's respective coterie and how precisely each different Neverborn infiltrates human society. Plus learning more about what exactly Mattheson is but it's likely we need to wait for more metaplot for that.

  8. As the title says, I'm an Ohio based wargamer that bought into Malifaux earlier this year. Also took up duties as a Fatemaster for Through the Breach, so I got pretty invested in Wyrd Games this year. Anyway, hello.

    What are the triggers?

They could possibly get a manifest power thing using toughness if it's an important thing for their character. (I vaguely remember there may be a pursuit power that uses toughness for something!? Although I haven't read the books in a while)

The way the trigger my player chose reads is "Mask: After succeeding during Dramatic Time, gain Hard to Wound." The trigger's called It Doesn't Hurt Anymore I think.

The Suffocation condition is the other Dramatic time event that would trigger a Toughness check for this trigger.

Honestly it can be fairly good or very mediocre depending on circumstances and the fated's build. Giving access to a healing flip could extend the benefit.

Like the Second Wind mechanic from D&D 4th? With how deadly the combat can be it might not be a bad idea.

  10. The problem with this comes not with the crunch but with the fluff.  For the crunch I'd personally try to come up with a new tarot for it or apply it to a specific tarot rather than have it piggyback off of every Fated tarot, but that's just me. The rules you came up with don't appear to be unbalanced, and I like the idea of a magic based race that isn't necessarily Neverborn. But honestly, a skeleton walking around Malifaux won't last long outside the Quarantine Zone, even in areas outside Guild control. Furthermore, it'll cause problems with the party since it's harder to hide a skeletal nature as opposed to Stitched (which are still human-looking for the most part). It can easily get the rest of the Fated in trouble for being suspected Resurrectionists, rather than the plausible deniability a Stitched represents even if the party is aware of its nature. "Honestly, Marshal, we had no idea. He wore a lot of cologne and bought a bunch of makeup, but honestly some Guild lawyers do that!" becomes "What, that skeleton is undead? We were totally fooled!" It could be an idea for a novelty campaign where the PCs are on the run and/or or never leave the QZ and the only living Resser has to find supplies, but in a normal campaign it would be much less of a pain to just be a Stitched instead.
