  1. Mage will be amazing, I have no doubt about that. Getting a 1/2/3 heal from activating a Lawyer is pretty insane. Should be good with cointerspell models, flurry, rapid fire and so on and so on. We also sorely need the marker removal.

I am less sure about the Gatling Gunner, but against long range threats he can be clutch and there are a few fun things you can do with that gun, especially in a Lucius crew. I also like the fact that he can shoot at someone engaged with one of your models, and if they really don't want you to take an interact, they may cheat down and allow you to get a cheatable 2/4/6 flip. I am unsure of how often that will happen in a really game though

The trouble in Symbols is that if they're fast, they're probably engaged. Break the Line I think they've got a potential cute trick of charging to pine-box something and then interacting to move a marker ... but I'm VERY unconvinced that Marshals is our best keyword into that strat ...

I really like Marshals in GG2, but I agree that BtL is probably their weakest strat. I don't think I have ever been able to make a Marshal crew that I have been happy with that has had more than 7 models, which is obviously going to be a problem in BtL. They are also very slow for such an interact heavy strategy.

From my understanding of the Russian meta, many crews take pale rider + lone marshal (and phiona for that matter), regardless of crew.

Not just the Russian meta 😛

Double Rider is pretty much what I would take into any terrifying. Phiona is more of a tank and probably not needed here.

Lone Marshal has an effective range of 21", ignoring concealment, terrifying and manipulative. With stat7 and focus, he can easily do mod/severes of 4/5 plus critical strike.

  4. You are coming off as very hostile in this thread, even if swapping crews could be a good idea. There are ways to play against Dreamer, no doubt, but he is a strong master that will need some clever counter picking, which is what this thread is all about.

I have had very good success against Dreamer by picking good, ruthless, ranged models. I like Dashel, Steward and Lawyer(s) to support Pale Rider and Lone Marshal. You should have easy access to focus (foul mouthed motivation, which helps as moderate dmg will do so much more than weak against a plethora of armoured or incorporeal models.

  5. Corvis is a very flexible piece. He brings a little bit of anti/scheming card draw, some damage (execute and show aside on demand with stat7 is great, especially considering those he push can take dmg from hazardous schemes), he gives you a bit of intel (and another source of ping) with his bonus and he can use pressure if needed (much easier if you set up a scheme with Austera or Anya). He also drains your opponents hand if they try to attack you. I like him, but he is not your typical beater henchman in any way.

I like Austera and Twigge in this list, I can't wait to test it.
On the other hand, I'm not sure The Damned is worth taking. 8SS is quite expensive, for an enforcer that doesn't seem to synergize that well into Aya's comp. In your opinion, what role would The Damned cover into the crew?

He isn't a must-take by any means, but I like his ping dmg whenever someone heals. He is also a very mobile piece, capable of acting independently.

Nexus has an attack to discard OE gain a parasite, so Corwin may fit in over with that crew.

I have been thinking about this. Between Nexus forcing you to discard for parasites, Corvis forcing you to discard to be on straights and execute, I think he could be a fun pick here.

I played the following Anya list in a Symbols game the other day.

    Anya
    Sovereign

    Corvis
    Winston
    Emissary
    Austera and Twigge
    The Damned
    6SS Cache

There is so much ping dmg in this crew between all the small healing bursts, shockwaves and Anya's shenanigans. Your opponent can barely cheat against your myriad of stat6 and 7 attacks as Corvis will always come in and ping his executes. Sovereign's shockwave can also force a lot of cards out of your opponent's hand.

  8. @Legislat fantastic post. I agree with literally everything you said.

Lawyers are literally the only minions I ever hire (aside from a very infrequent use of Pathfinders, or a Changeling or two in Lucius). In a recent grand tournament, I hired a Mounted Guard once in five games as the only keyword model in Dashel, and then only because the strategy was symbols.

There are too many dud choices in the faction, so you basically take the few that are competitive. I am 100% sure that Guild is the faction that would be most hamstrung by any nerfs at this point as the second best models aren't nearly good enough to step up and take the place of the current best choices. That being said, the card draw on the Dispatcher is too good and probably needs to be changed.

  9. Crocket can make the Sand Worm take quite a lot of stat6 min3 attacks with his gun. Seems pretty impressive for a 6SS model tbh. With the right cards the Sand Worm could be able to make 5 (or if the stars align, 7) attacks in a round, which is obviouslty devastating.
