  1. As soon as I built iron skeeters I knew I wanted to magnetize my minis.  Currently, I use magnetic a-case+'s that I picked up from a kickstarter (decent product, lousy fulfillment/shipping).  Battlefoam makes some magnetic options, but I only glanced at them at gencon, so no clue how they stack up / are priced.  Feel like there may be a higher point of entry for magnets, but I haven't priced out foam.

Biggest issue with my magnetic cases is while they hold a lot and are pretty compact, they only hold 2 - 3 trays (I usually only fit in 2 and use the bottom for cards / tokens, but 3 can happen in a pinch).  Each tray can hold 20-30 (depending on base size) models, so you won't get a full faction in there, maybe 3-4 50ss teams (depending on how big a sideboard you wanted and how much overlap between masters).  I just packed it for the holidays and got semi-elite 50ss teams for 2 masters from 2 factions with a few sideboard pieces for each faction for scheme pool modifications.  For tournaments it was closer to 2 masters within 1 faction with all the 'maybe i could want to field x, but probably won't' pieces I felt obligated to bring.  That may be enough for you to lend out to players, I'm not sure.

At home i just have long storage boxes that i threw a piece of sheet metal in for each faction since the a-case isn't big / flip resistant enough.

Since Adran mentioned the negatives around foam, here's the minuses I've seen with magnets.  The magnets sometimes fall of the models and models don't all stick the same way (since different weights / etc).  I don't use rare earth magnets so some are looser than others and can slide around the sheet / get loose, that said, others are extra strong so those I'm worried about snapping / twisting off parts when pulling them off the sheet (which is why I don't use rare earth).  For these reasons I'm pretty careful about my case, and wouldn't be comfortable traveling with it if I couldn't watch it / make sure it wasn't getting tipped / etc (since even under the best cases a model or 2 goes rogue and unsticks itself by the time I open it up).

  2. From what I remember (I didn't pick them up last time), people either based cats, or split them up to 1 a base.  Really depends on how many cats you think you'll need to play with.  I don't play hamelin, but seemed a lot of people split them up cause the rat engine took a lot of models and they didn't to run out.

  3. I personally like the lack of master specific upgrades.  Yes, there were some cool ones in M2E, but looking at the forums there was a lot of 'x emissary is trash with x master, only bring him with y master'.  I can only assume they were nearly impossible to balance against each other, since you needed to check a whole host of upgrades before tweaking something.

Will I bring them less in M3E? Probably, but I'm ok with that, rather than a list that always has a 10ss tax.  I'm also hoping that they're buffed/balanced such that I want to bring them for their own abilities, rather than how they work with my master.

As for the price, emissaries are way bigger than your usual enforcer model, so they cost more to produce / package / ship.  You can't really compare their cost to that of a regular enforcer / hench that's on a 30mm base and in a 11 - 15 dollar box.  If you want to compare cost, compare it to hannah / the whiskey / rail golem or other models that require a full sprue + to build.  They're at 35, to the 40 for the emissaries, so I don't see the issue.

  4. I've been trying to get undergrads interested in Malifaux, so I've been doing this a lot lately.  I haven't had much luck with my Neverborn ones (for some reason none of my friends have chosen neverborn!) but I've made lists all the same.  In general, I've had a harder time making lists in Neverborn, since so many neverborn models are glass cannons.  I can't imagine teaching someone with Candy/Cade/2 sorrows.

When I do it, I've been leaning towards something like the starter sets, so 1 hench, 1 enforcer, 2 minion (of the same type), so newbies would only have to learn 3 models.  I try to keep the SS cost about the same, so like a 8-9 cost hench, a 8ish cost enforcer and 2 5-6 cost minions.  Beyond the crews, I give each player 4 SS and have both teams work towards 1 Strategy (Ply for Information) and 1 Scheme (Search the Ruins).  This helps keep it from being a total blood bath, and allows for some movement / scheme marker / etc abilities.

Here's some lists I built for neverborn:

    Aeslin

    Cyclops

    2 bultingens

    Angel Eyes

    Serena (or Lilitu)

    2 Bloodwretches (or Young Nephilim)

    Juju

    Adze

    2 waldgiests

    Huggy

    Tannen

    2 Illuminated

  5. Been checking this thread on and off.  Thanks Mason for giving answers to a lot of people's questions. I love that this company cares and responds to the community so quickly and thoughtfully... Specially on something that's not even in beta yet.

Super looking forward to m3e.  I'm sure the changes will make me wanna pick up the masters I don't currently own (and new boxes for the ones I do own to get new sculpts / models :) ).

  6. Proxy played with popcorn and Cooper yesterday in a brewer list against kaeris with the arcanist side of the box (symbols and we both took search and undercover entourage).  Popcorn was pretty fun at denying points in search the ruins.  Cooper didn't do much (no scrap to summon off of), tho her armor +2 did slow down a couple hits against her.

They would of been more vicious if I wasn't playing against the fire golem who could just take / eat all the burning, but I wanted to see how both sides of the box interacted.

  7. Awesome Monday preview.

I wasn't expecting this for the nightmare edition and I'm looking forward to picking it up since it's a master who's original box didn't excite me.  Although, I may have to get the classic box too since I like the idea of grizzled ulix surrounded by bright ponies in kind of a 'how did I end up with these annoying buggers' way.

That said, I am a bit annoyed that, for once, I may not have the brightest/most pastel crew on the table.  Guess I'll have to work harder to get the least grim-dark crew possible.  I'm thinking rainbows and glitter effects :)

  8. Hi,

I'm not sure about communities, and I'd be interested in the same thing.

I'm relatively new (been playing for 8ish months but I don't get many games in) and live in Worcester.  I haven't found a local shop that has tablespace setup, so I play at home.  If you know of a place that could be set up for malifaux, I'd meet up for a game.  I have the mat / terrain / etc needed so that's not a worry, I just don't know anywhere that has war game table space for rent.

In general, if I want to play against others I do it on a weekend and drive farther.  There are communities of players in the Providence / Hartford / Hadley areas, downside is most of their regular play days are weeknights and that's too far of a drive for me. I have gone to a few tournaments recently, and while I get destroyed the people are nice and its a good way to find out who's from where.  There's a tournament coming up in Westport Ma at Table Top games June 2nd that I'm planning on going to.

Beyond that, if you wanted to check out shops, here's the places I'd recommend:

Table top Games - Westport Ma - Has a full line of models,  has tables with the right amount of terrain, staff plays / is knowledgeable (I asked a lot of n00bie questions to them when I was starting out).

Battlestandard - East Windsor CT - Stocks some models, has a decent amount of used models, so you may be able to find some deals / rarities (I picked up a trixiebell for 5 dollars last weekend), has a hench / players who play regularly.

I've also gone to tournaments at Game On in Warwick, though if I was driving to RI, I'd prefer to go to Table Top cause they have more stock to buy.  I've also heard good things about Off The Wall in Hadley MA, but I haven't been (though I've played against some people from there in tournaments).

Hope this helps.  Feel free to drop me a PM if you want to know more.

  9. Hi, so I've recently switched over to TT and found a old gift card in a drawer, and was trying to figure out the last model to fill out an order.  The models the store has / I don't have are:

    Izumu

    Queeg

    Sue

    Toshiro

    Yin

    Shadow Effigy

And since I'm toying with the idea of getting some Gremlins

    Gracie

    Burt

I've been playing mainly Lynch or McCabe, and I'm interested in Brewmaster.  I also Yan Lo / Mei Feng but they're not a priority since I'd play the other 3.  I already picked up a decent number of TT models (TT brothers, tengu, yokai, jorogumo, samurai, low river monks, shadow emissary, terracotta warriors, etc), so a lot of bases are already covered.

I was thinking Sue or Yin, but I'm not sure if one makes more sense than the other, or if there's a different option for those 3 masters that I'm overlooking.
