  1. Greetings, fellow painters! Here's my March submission. I have completed 10 SS of miniatures (Asura Roten (8 Points) and a mindless zombie (2 points)). Yes, technically, three zombies, but the ones on Asura's base have been rebased, and they don't count. Sorry for the imgur links, I can't upload due to image size restrictions. I can't imagine why. Mindless Zombie 1. There's a slightly annoying seam on the back of this miniature, which I should have filled. Mindless Zombie 2. A mold line on the head, which I missed. Mindless Zombie 3. The shadow on the back of the pants needs to be blended in a lot more. Looks like I missed that part. I'm not sure if the green stripe on the pants works. That might need to be changed. Asura Roten. I'm happy with this miniature, overall. The shadows on the flesh could be a little deeper, I guess. Painting dark skin well is difficult, as there's not as much contrast to play with. The base of Asura was a bit of work, and I'm overall fairly pleased with it, but the cast on the cauldron could be better, and the ivy / moss is a little garish in the photographs. It's a bit more subdued in reality. Some glazes on the stonework on all the miniatures might make them a little less cartoonish. I think I'll glaze some more living-flesh tones into the greens - it's a little too green for me, in retrospect. Next month, it'll be an adventure into this duplicitous Arcanists! @misterfinn: I like the subtle OSL on your coffin. Very nicely done. @Franchute: Nice aging metalwork on the legs of the necropunk. @Burnin' Coal: As others have said, that's some extraordinary and wonderful glazing work on the Neverborn wings. I'll be putting those in the inspiration folder, for sure. @Shock & Awe: Barbaros' wings are beautiful. That almost pearlescent purple / blue is really nice. @Aa7: I'll be attacking Frozen Hearts next month - I'll be stealing your basing ideas, I think! @Piccio: Love the fabric on the back. Nice shadows. @Amdor: Love the fleshtones on Mouse. Very nice detailed work. @Viruk: Individually lovely models, but I'm most impressed with the cohesion of such a disparate group. The green/blue base of the Quellers is really easy on the eye. I actually paint because it takes my mind off my patients. I hope your little girl is better soon. I've had a good month, folks. I'm keen to see what else gets painted, and best of luck for next month's painting! Caedrus.
  2. ...and here's my Mid-March Update! I've all but finished the mindless zombie as my promised pledge, but I can't upload images! I keep getting a message that says I can only upload 40.96kb, which is, what? Eight pixels? @bedjy: Love the wrastlers, and really love the cream Misaki. @mrcoblin: I think those Ice Dancers are fantastic. I quite like the hair-colour-contrast! Best of luck to all for the rest of the month!
  3. ...and, as promised, here's 10SS from Caedrus! Folks, some absolutely gorgeous miniatures this month. Sincerely, some inspirational stuff. Kudos to you all. [Oh, and the Steam Trunk's Freikorps symbol is my interpretation of the real world Prussian Freikorps; the librarian head conversion from the Through the Breach set] Looking forward to seeing what March brings! Caedrus.
  4. For March, I pledge 2SS of mindless zombie ... and if I can find some time, maybe even a few of them! There's also a Nicodem that's just asking to be finished. Wish me luck.
  5. Caedrus completes February with 10SS. Good evening all, Well, a busy time in the shortest month means not a lot of painting. I have completed the Steam Trunk and a Freikorps Librarian. Images will be uploaded shortly. Best of luck to all in the finishing moments of the month! Caedrus. Next Month: Ressers!
  6. Greetings, fellow painters, Well, the Steam Trunk is built (mostly). No small effort there. 36 pieces, Wyrd? Really? I'm working out a paint scheme for my Freikorps, hence the Librarian in the background. On a pumpkin. Inexplicably. Aah, eBay, you never disappoint. More to come, but this has been a busy month. Stupid-being-an-adult. Caedrus.
  7. @Ringil - I shall be trying that combination very soon. I wouldn't have thought to use the yellower tone. Thanks so much!
  8. @Ringil - Absolutely gorgeous Molly. Could you share your colours with us to achieve that purple? Such rich colours on that fabric, especially the trailing segment!
  9. Greetings All, My pledge for this month will be a 50% increase! Behold the 36 parts that make up the 3SS Steam Trunk! I bought some eBay salvage-miniatures of a Von-Schill crew, so I need a test-bed for a colour scheme. That's if I get any painting done. Just gluing this thing together is going to take some time. Have fun painting, all! Caedrus.
  10. @Franchute Thanks! 17 for me. 2 for Primordial, 15 for Lynch.
  11. Caedrus, reporting in! It’s been a busy month for me, but I painted my Primordial Magic, and thought he needed a friend, so I painted up Jakob Lynch as well! I have completed 17 SS in total. Primordial: The aim here was to use fluorescent paints without it being garish, and to not be afraid of vivid OSL. My sculpting work needs, well, work. I could have done the sculpted bits as a smooth skin, rather than ridged, but I wanted to experiment with the highlighting. My 'magic-vomit' highlighting is deliberately the opposite of flame effects. I think it works. I’m happy enough with the little guy. Lynch: The aim here was to add some dynamism to a very static model. I was really pleased until my spray varnish frosted everything, and I was forced to go into recovery mode! I used every trick to overcome the frosting, but c'est la vie. Live and learn. I wanted to use a little of my Neverborn unifying colour (P3 Beaten Purple) and a fair amount of my Ten Thunders unifying colour (Reaper’s Sun Yellow). I was trying to get a duality of colour to show the dual-faction Master. I also wanted to show the dilapidated nature of the Honeypot Casino. My yellow OSL on the trousers is more subtle in real life. Oh, and the card in Jakob’s hand? Painting that pretty much sent me blind. Most of all, this month I learned that my painting space is super dusty. So many areas speckled with dust! Aah! So, that’s January. Critiques are very, very welcome. Next month, I’ll be moving onto The Outcasts! Here are my thoughts! @misterfinn – delightful fabric on the outcasts. I’ll be painting these exact models soon, so great to see some inspirational work! My colour scheme is likely to be close to the exact opposite! The nothing beast’s carapace is exceptional. @Joachim – really nice crystals on the cyclops. What base colour did you use? It’s really nice at unifying the models (even the tiny details on the Gorar!). @Viruk – I wish I could paint that efficiently with a baby in the house. I enjoyed reading the blog as well. Your painting is very clean and neat. In particular, that scion’s base is delightful. @Burnin' Coal – Only twenty models on the go at once? My ‘nearly complete’ box has at least double that! The shadows on your stitched are really nice. The purple works so nicely with the tan of the fabric. Far more than I would have thought! @prof_bycid – I have so much unpainted terrain. There’s a good technique for fluid effects on the Hirst Arts site, if that helps! @Amdor – iamfanboy gave some good advice about orange. Can I also suggest Reaper’s HD Orange paints? They’re quite nice and super opaque. @Piccio – like others have said, the metal on Anna’s dress is superb. I doubt I could do anything like that! Kudos! @H4ml3t – Your waldgeist looks so … delightfully alien. I haven’t picked up these models, but they look like they’d be fun to paint. @iamfanboy – Indigo and mauve is a neat combination. Really Cthulhu. I like the Bandersnatch leaping out of shadow, as well. @RustAndTheCity – as others have said, absolutely delightful brushwork. Really nice, deep contrast in the shadows. A very pretty base as well. I was thinking of using that very one for some Von Schills I have on the ‘to-do’ list. The grey-browns are very nicely done. @Purple Mist – That bronze really unites these units really nicely. What colour is that? @Monkeyfist – Mr Cooper’s coat is just perfect – you’ve absolutely nailed the ‘big top ringmaster’ feel. @Franchute – I really envy your highlighting. The denim jeans and the base planks are just fantastic. @Kogan Style – I’m about to start a plagued conversion for The Dreamer. You’ve inspired me! I love the distressed leather on The Midnight Stalker. @Treehouse – There’s a beautiful greyish tone in the beautiful blues you’ve used for your ice models. It makes them look really menacing. Nice highlighting, especially on the gamin. @wobbly_goggy – I’d be absolutely terrified of painting the Grootslang – that thing is massive. Like, airbrush massive. @wizuriel– Have you ever tried Tamiya X-22 clear gloss? It makes transparents really smooth. Seriously. The stuff is magical. I've had lots of fun painting this month. Thanks @Franchute for organising it! See you in February!
  12. Hello All Well, halfway through the month means that it's time for a WIP on my pledge. The vast majority of my Malifaux bases will be cobblestone (I've just bought the GSW roller - love it). My Neverborn will all feature purple as their unifying colour. In this case, P3's Beaten Purple. The colourscheme will otherwise be close to the boxart. So, recognising that the Primordial Magic is incorporeal, I decided to let my (questionable) sculpting skills loose, and had the pukesnake undulating through the cobblestones. The plan is for some magic-vomit-OSL effects. Perhaps even some fluorescent paints. I need some practice with these effects. Caedrus.
  13. Happy New Year, fellow painters and gamers! It's my very great pleasure to paint alongside you all. I wish you the very best with your painting this year. For my Minion level pledge, I shall start with the cheapest of them all. Behold 2SS of Primordial Magic. Maybe I'll add something else as well from the Neverborn to keep him company. Perhaps even a pretty base for the pukesnake. We'll see.
  14. Hello Everyone, I would love to take part. I shall start at Minion level, I think. My sincere thanks to Franchute for organising this event, and my very best to all my fellow painters and gamers in 2018.
