  1. Time for a quick update! Well, after a successful (I think) prototype Guild Guard, rather than finishing painting the remaining eight of them, I instead decided that it was time to finish my gamin. Obviously. Then I decided that rather than properly finishing my gamin, I should finish my Ice Golem. So then I needed to make some Ice Pillars. And then, before I could base them, I needed to build a few other things that would need a similar airbrush base coat. So, in short, I have finished one Guild Guard (I was quite pleased with the coat, and the subdued colour scheme), I've nearly finished my gamin, closing in on the Ice Golem, haven't touched my Arcane Effigy, and I added a dozen more models in built and undercoated form! Clearly, I have a problem. See you at the end of the month!
  2. Greetings All, Well, July is going to be a crazy busy month for me, so I carved out some time to get started on my Guild Guard so I could meet the monthly target. I also managed to do some blocking in on my fire gamin, because I'm World Champion at starting a miniature and then taking forever to finish them... The guild guard you see is my colour-scheme prototype (my guild are all brown, red and brass - my Malifaux is a fairly steampunky one). I'm just adoring that massive, massive mold line that I inexplicably missed. Sheesh. ...and I have absolutely no idea what I'll get finished this month. Caedrus, out.
  3. @bedjy: The miniatures are delightful, but that Tavern is very, very pretty indeed. Kudos!
  4. Caedrus, reporting in. @Franchute: I report 12SS of painting this month. Well, it's been a month of not getting much done, so my four Guild Hounds are it for this month. I did manage to get the airbrush out, for some preparatory work for July - jump over to that thread if you're so inclined. So many lovely models! @Phinn - a pity you won't be involved, that's a delightful Miss Ery! Please post her when she's done! Caedrus, out.
  5. Caedrus, checking in. For July, my pledge will be a single Guild Guard (of which I have nine in real or proxy form), at 3SS. I have a ridiculous amount of stretch goals, including finishing my Arcane Effigy: ...and I took a little time to break out the airbrush for the first time in two years, to do some prep work: ...and did some Arcanist airbrushing as well! I still have a lot to learn! Have a great time painting in July, everyone! Caedrus, out.
  6. Well, my basic pledge for the month is done: 4 Guild Hounds (my Guild all use red and brass as their unifying colours). I was tempted to do different fur colours, but these make them a bit more like faceless minions, which I kinda like. The base attachment points still need to be cleaned up. Now onto something fun... Have fun with those brushes! Caedrus.
  7. A quick update: After a productive day of casting, basing, gluing, and undercoating, I'm here: Those hounds will not take long. There's two primed guild guard to go with these 3 TTB models as proxies. And yes, I've hacked Lady Justice's hair off. Time for greenstuff! Watch this space...
  8. Caedrus, checking in! I pledge 3SS of Guild Hound! ...and whatever bits and pieces from my tray of shame. Including, but not limited to: 3 other Guild Hounds; Arcane Effigy; 3 Mindless Zombies A Performer; Guild Guard; 2 December Acolytes; Lazarus; 2 Ice Dancers; and A Friekorps Trapper! Yeah, I'm having myself on, pretty badly. Have a great painting month, fellow painters!
  9. Caedrus, checking in! This month, I have painted 41 SS. (9 Mortimer, 8 Lust, 9 Taelor, 15 Von Schill) An eBay rescue (note the broken pickaxe). Messing around with OSL. Needs an inscription on the headstone base. Maybe some grass tufts as well. My first adventure into sheer cloth. Reasonably happy. Limited palette. Double sheer cloth. The shirt worked better than the sheer gloves. Pleased with the palette here. I glazed some redder lips after these photos. An annoying miscast on the shirt. Another eBay rescue. Broken kukri, broken foot, ruined chest plate. You do the best you can. Needs more water layers on the sunken statue. I'm loving some of the painting this month. A huge haul by @bedjy - love the Crossroads, particularly. @Burnin' Coal, love the highlighting, obviously. @Viruk, I love the tones you've worked into the swampies. @wizuriel, loving the electric - some nice bases would really set them off! @Rikk - I'm now super keen to create a steampunky version of that wagon! @prof_bycid - yep, it seems that that's added the dapper lycanthrope onto my purchase list. Nice! Have a great end of May, and in June, it'll be my Guild's turn to get some love (and maybe my tray of shame, as well...)! Caedrus.
  10. @Burnin' Coal: Lovely ghostly colours there; are you able to list the colour(s) for the ghost blue / green highlights?
  11. @misterfinnI have! I'm not great at NMM, and considering the amount of metal in Malifaux miniatures, I spent a fair bit of time experimenting. My opinion is that Scale75 metallics are excellent. They have a very fine metallic component. I suspect aluminium is in there. Downsides: You have to really, really shake them before use, as they will separate readily. You'll have limited use (probably) on some of their coloured metallics. Upsides: In my opinion, they have excellent coverage. Very strong pigments. Smooth finish. I'm a particular fan of the Scale75 Victorian Brass. Here are some reviews / tutorials: Pirate Monkey, Massive Voodoo, and a massive metallics comparison. I don't mind Vallejo's Model Air range, and I also like the (more painful to use) Vallejo Liquid Metals. Nice skin tones on the TTB figure, by the way! Caedrus.
  12. A quick WIP on a couple of stretch goals: Lots more to do, obviously! Enjoy your painting!
  13. Well that was quick: ...now onto the stretch goals! Enjoy your painting! Caedrus
  14. An early start to my painting challenge - Terracotta Warriors (aka "Wyrd's easiest paintjob"). A bit of highlighting and basing, and these guys are going to be done. @Monkeyfist- The pastels on your Weaver make her just that extra bit creepy. Kudos on the beautiful fabric and parasol. @Boomstick- That's a big month you have planned! Impressive! @Franchute- I love the purple / blues on Raspy. Very nice colour scheme, and very nice brushwork! @misterfinn- I hope the Trunk is built! If not, good luck! So many parts... Have a good month, all!
  15. @Boomstick- loving the tribal tattoos on Marcus. Very fine work. @bedjy- I used Reaper's Brilliant Green, highlighted with P3's Iosan Green, with +black or +white towards each end. By the way, your 'hog colour' is just perfect! @Viruk- I sincerely echo the words said by others - I hope your little girl is better soon. I'm loving the Sonnias (1 for a friend?). @Treemonkey- You paint so beautifully well! I love how cohesive the Watcher and Ryle are! @Piccio- delightful work on those blues. The way that you do your light on fabric is very, very good, particularly wide folds vs. tight folds (if that makes sense!). I wish I had such skill! @Strangely Brown (bonus marks for the name, by the way!) - I think the Field Reporter is my favourite, but the goggled Monster Hunter Proxy is close behind. Lovely, lovely minis. A great month. Kudos, all!
  16. A quick update: This, along with a new-on-sprue Lust, is my current pile-o-shame: Von Schill (90%) December Acolytes (20%) Mortimer (80%) Lust (0%) Taelor [Metal] (10%) Lazarus (5%) Freikorp Trapper (10%) Terracotta Warriors (10%) 3 Mindless Zombies [incl. 1 Waif as a proxy] (15%). Whew! Lots to do there, including some scenic bases. Why do I do this to myself...? Enjoy your painting! Caedrus.
  17. Well, the month is nearly over, and all I added to the list was Nicodem. Caedrus claims 59SS (the rest of the models are on Page 3, plus this 15SS Master). I'm not super sure the red lenses work ... maybe some purple glazing in there would help. Mortimer and Von Schill are very close to finished, so hopefully next month should see them done (unless I get some time tonight!). Some beautiful models this month. @bedjy- love all the models, but the scenery is superb! @Shock & Awe- Now I have to go buy some Stiched models... Have a good one, see you next month! Caedrus.
  18. This month, it's Ten Thunders! My pledge: A terracotta warrior, valued at a mighty 6SS (I hope an unopened box will do instead of an unpainted mini!). Stretch Goals (WIP photos will be uploaded!) Stretch Goal 1: The other two terracotta warriors. Stretch Goal 2: Two Ice Dancers. Stretch Goal 3: Two December Acolytes. Stretch Goal 4: Mortimer. Stretch Goal 5: Lazarus. Stretch Goal 6: Four Mindless Zombies. Stretch Goal 7: Lust. Stretch Goal 8: Angelica. That's some serious optimism, there! Have a great May, painters! Caedrus.
  19. Well, the month is nearly over, and I'm so close to finishing quite a few more models. Behold, the collage of incompleteness! Nicodem is at 90% - I think his hat needs changing. What was I thinking there? Mortimer is at 80% - the base and a few details to go. Considering doing a marble effect. Von Schill is at 80% - lots of water layers to go on the base, and cleaning up the breastplate (he's another eBay salvage job, on a seconds-base). Acolytes are at 30% - just the cloaks, really. Ice Dancers are at 10% - roughed in flesh tone. Hopefully on Sunday, I can finish a few of these off! @Chou- loving those bold colours. The brick base looks especially good. @PetitDalek - very nice Candy, and a nicely done blood effect. Lovely mini! @Franchute - I love the 'magma fist' effect. The shadow on the wall behind looks like smoke rising off them! @Purple Mist - very nice, subtle OSL on the pumpkins! I'm loving looking at all these minis! Caedrus.
  20. @Burnin' Coal: A delightful couple of shamen there. Loving the wings, but I'm really fond of the green / purple base contrast. Kudos!
  21. @JoachimI'm sure you've seen this excellent dia de los muertos crew, which is just wonderful... On the other hand, yours is much more colourful - beautifully so. Loving the Abuela sombrero. My Perdita crew are done as Steampunk English Gentry, but I really want to redo them as Scots... @misterfinnI'd forgotten about that tutorial. A very good suggestion, that one. So many lovely paint jobs this month...
  22. @MonkeyfistThe high contrast and shadow depth on Carlos-the-Joker's back is really nice. I also like the purple-to-yellow contrast of colours as well. 😊 Nice strong contrasts - really good for a graphic-novel style character! If you want to stretch your skills on fire, here's a good link!
  23. Time for the Caedrus Update! Hopefully, everyone's painting mojo has kicked in, and you are having an absolute ball painting those miniatures! As a work-in-progress for this month, I have made a start on Mortimer, Von Schill, and two acolytes, and I have primed a couple of Ice Dancers. I've started on these ones because I have been able to carve out hours to do some really enjoyable models! I've managed to finish my first Acolyte, and I was so happy with the colour scheme, that I continued it to a Rasputina (still scared of the LE Raspy) and Snow Storm! I took a break from ice and snow, and finished a Mindless Zombie and Toshiro! So, I'm at 44SS so far - 15 (Rasputina) + 11 (Snow Storm) + 7 (Acolyte) + 2 (Mindless Zombie) + 9 (Toshiro)! However, I doubt I'll carve out any more time this month, but who knows! Toshiro was an eBay salvage job, and was incomplete, so while I'm not pleased with the paint job on him, he'll do! Onto the pictures. (some gap filling would have helped here ... on the other hand, he's two soulstones) The large bowel should have been more necrotic. Dang. Also, the yellow is my Ten Thunders unifying colour. It clashes a little too much with the jade, I think. Vallejo Still Water effect is not quite dry here. The highlight on Snow's mask is a little thick. I'm pleased with the rest of this miniature, though. This base is very simple. I was really using this Rasputina as a stand-in until I get the courage to paint the limited edition Rasputina. Still, I was pleased with how this relatively adynamic figure turned out. I think it could do with some snow effects. So, that's where I am this month! Comments and critiques are, of course, very welcome! @Monkeyfist: I love the high contrast on Lola's tutu. She's wonderfully grotesque! Kudos! @wizuriel: For the text, a 0.05 'Micron' pen can be useful, especially in conjunction with beta-blockers. However, if you go this route, make sure the ink is super dry before you varnish it - and it must be varnished or it will smear! Keep on painting! Caedrus.
  24. For this month, I'll be tackling a December Acolyte. If I get time, there's the other two acolytes, and Snowstorm. If I'm really conscientious, I'll finish Toshiro and/or Nicodem. Enjoy your April of painting, all!
