Where are you located? My LGS has some of the faction packs. Not sure if they're the ones you're looking for but I can check Saturday and if you're in the US I could mail them to you.

I'm from Belgium, so that's Europe. Thanks for the offer, but we're not gonna pay customs and shipping from the US just for a couple of card packs. The extra costs will outstrip the pack cost :P

I find it painful only because A- the game is incredible B- people LOVE the new sculpts are awesome and C - the reception and uptake has sky rocketed. I refresh the upcoming page daily and harrass my LGS for shipping updates. While these teething issues are a hastle its on the back of an amazing game, company and asthetic (minis, fluff ect) I am sure Wyrd are painfully aware of this predicament but at the end of the day release is sluggish because its overwhelming success. You cannot blame a small company from not ??tripling?? an investment on the back of a hope it would do well - breathe, let them catch up - all will be well - and stick it out because lets face it, you'll be back anyway...

While I agree with you on this, even something as small as the card packs have been sold out. It's not just for a month or 2, it's already 4 months (and counting). There doesn't seem to be any sign of actual product, besides the announced new releases per month, that's being delivered. A niche game like this might have problems, but not getting the actual playing cards is rather ... special.

  2. Has there been any news regarding the Faction Card Packs?  I still haven't gotten my hands on any packs whatsoever, just like most of the people in my group. It seems our country only got a couple of packs in total, which effectively killed the entire scene here. At first we played with self-printed cards, but it's just not thesame ...

I've been trying to get the packs for Ten Thunders and Neverborn from several shops here and in the UK, but none of them can provide any sort of timings on actually getting them. I've even gotten orders refunded because they timed out on delivery time.

  3. The search function does not support alt cards. If i want to use the alt Hamelin, Catelyn, I would have to search for Rat King, Hamelin, Nix, ... instead of their alt counterpart. When you have a lot of alt models, sometimes you forget the original name and it becomes rather tedious to find all the correct models.

Perhaps the search function could search the alt cards as well?

It makes a huge difference. I've played about 10 games with Shenlong. Those duels where you lose the duel by 1-2 it's a  fantastic thing to use a Chi, forcing your opponent to cheat first.

Does it actually work like that? I thought Chi was added at Step D of the process, while Cheat Fate is Step C.

I mean, it makes sense, but right now the Duel Total is calculated AFTER cheating Fate and Harness Chi only takes place when calculating the Duel Total.

EDIT: Nevermind, for some reason I thought the Monk's Ability said Final Duel Total. Disregard the above.

  5. Thanks for the insight. My personal favorite with Hamelin is actually The Midnight Stalker as he is extremely mobile, difficult to kill and still packs a decent punch thanks to free Fast. He also opens up the scheme pool to schemes like Breakthrough. Ever thought about adding him to the mix?

  6. Say I'm playing Hamelin. I decide to call a Malifaux Rat as friendly target and low cost minion as enemy target for Vendetta. I then melt a couple of rats, including the designated one, into a Rat King. Rat King now has more points than the designated enemy model.

    What happens?

    1. Rat King is now the new friendly model and can complete the scheme
    2. Not allowed

I think it would be allowed as the models are designated at the start of the game. Replace also has the following wording:

If the new and original models belong to the same Crew the new model becomes the target of any effects that targeted or chose the original model such as Schemes Leader designation or lasting game effects The new model is always considered a legal target for those effects

I'm asking this in advance as I know I'll be having a discussion over it and I'd like to have a fall-back to shorten the time spent on it.

  7. I've been thinking a bit. Do you think it might be worth it to hire a Rat King and give him the Swagger upgrade? Combining this with Hamelin's Free Action, this could be pretty strong.

Hamelin uses his Free and let's the Rat King move 3" AND take a Walk Action. King gains Focus +1 from this Walk. then you can activate the King and let him focus again or do a Walk + Charge and pretty much guarantee that 4 damage moderate.

The problem is that it does become rather expensive to do as I also like taking The Midnight Stalker and give him Hard To Kill.

They have the typos, but I’ve been told they’re shipping reprinted ones if you’ve already bought the card pack.

Any post or something that confirms this? I was planning on holding off until they released a new card pack, but this could speed things up.

It’s not missing. They didn’t release the digital or print based cards for models that are not officially released. It will be posted after Von Schtook is officially released.

Thanks. Forgot about that as I saw Youko's card in Ten Thunders. Completely forgot she was already released.

Could you explain how this works? Reading Last Breath only sounds like a + on those 2-3 actions.

    10 hours ago, santaclaws01 said:

Last Breath is one of those holes in the rules for if it stacks or not. That means lone swordsman will either A, get a :+flipeach time the action is used and either gain a soulstone or take 4 irreducible damage each time the action is used, or only one of each no matter how many times the action is used.

We've been playing that it stacks, like a lot of people on the forum here I guess. If it doesn't stack, I would probably transfer some Focus from the HRM to the Swordsman so he could still get ++ on all his attacks.

Side-question for anyone who owns the physical cards. Is the HRM fixed on there or is it still the faulty non-Free Action on there?

You could also use Shenlong's Spiritual Alignment to transfer Fast to any model you like.

The Aspiring Students usually have Chi to spare. Shenlong can use "The Dragon commands it" on Sensei Yu to get Fast on a Student and then transfer it to a Samurai/Lone Swordsman/...

I have done this with Lone Swordsman. 3 attacks of +, ++ and +++ on attack and damage make short work of any model when you declare the Critical Strike suite for your Adaptive. Damage track of 2/4/5 becomes 3/5/6 and can go up to 4/6/7 if you flip/cheat another Ram inthere. My opponent did not like seeing that :D

  12. In the few games I've played Shenlong I've used the students more offensively actually. Thanks to the Chi, they are actually a very credible threat. I didn't use any setup tricks, so they always had at least their 1 Chi from when they activate. I then would Concentrate-Charge them into a beater with a stat 6-7 attack depending on whether I'm using the Staff or a Shenlong Style Attack. Let me tell you that they don't deal damage a lot of damage, but near-guaranteed Distracted on an opposing beater from a Totem feels dirty.

It has backfired though, when my opponent blasted them to pieces :P

You can't. Yu's bonus action gives Fast to a cheaper monk model (8ss or less). So Yu Fast's one monk minion. Shenlong does his bonus on Yu to let Yu do his bonus again on another monk minion.

I think the whole buff-mania is worth doing as well as you're allowed to. I always tell my opponents after master declaration that Shenlong really likes playing t1 solitaire, so if they can disrupt that they probably should. I do try to go up the board a fair bit if I can. HRMs walk+bonus push. Shen will charge something if he can, I like Yu pushing Shen up the the board for some extra Chi and movement.

But I've played very little Shenlong and will probably keep him on hiatus for a while now. But this way seemed to do alright when I played monks.

    Ah like that.

I don't like doing that as I'm already doing a setup round. Fast comes at the cost of 1 Chi per Action Yu takes. Instead, Yu could have gotten Chi instead, so the cost i 2 Chi per Fast you give. Turn 1 you're probably not going to do a lot with it, so it's better to give it in later Turns, granted your Monks still have Chi for that. Putting it on a WRM could be worth it early on, but even then ...

If you can't get Yu in range and you NEED to get something done, I can see it being worth it. Besides that, I generally rather drop a card for an extra Concentrate. Then again, I don't have much experience with Shenlong in M3E, so I'm not completely sure how Fast would buff up his crew. I feel like th Chi cost is a bit steep, considering the effort it takes to build up the Chi to begin with.

I usually prefer to boost up Chi on Shen rather than the Monks.

This is what I usually do:

Core: Shen , totems , Yu and a Low River

Shen , Students and Yu start 1" from one another (a square). Yu activates and use the Bonus as Concentrate discarding a card (Shouting Orders), then he hits Shen (and with the trigger you get the card used back) and lastly he concentrate (he can't move because he must stay near the Students ) . Students activate and hit once Shen and Concentrate , Bonus action for transfer a Chi from Yu to Shen . Both of them the same activation. Low river heals Shen (he should have 4-5 damage) and if you manage to get some Focus with the trigger even better. Lastly Shen activates , heals 1 from the Aura of the Low River and you are free to decide what to do . With a triple Concentrate (or even four time Concentrate with the Shouting Orders) you arrive to 9/10 Chi on Shen . I don't think is worth it to spend others models activation to hit Shen again and using another Low to heal him back . Just Concentrate normally with the others . An High River with the Bonus and double Concentrate move 3" turn and gets 4 Chi . It depends a little on the Deployment but usually spending turn 1 boosting up the Chi is a good idea , you can't score points anyway and sending the monks recklessly forward without it is a suicide.

This can actually still be combined in a lesser degree with what I suggested. If you don't need the mobility, Yu can do to the HRM what you do to Shenlong here; this doesn't change anything for the HRM though, just that Yu gets an extra Concentrate Action instead of a Walk.

You basicly combo the 2 totems with Yu's Aura on Shenlong to give Shenlong 4 Chi. you can still do this and all that happens is Shenlong only took 2 damage. I've also only used 1 AP from Shenlong and his Free Action, so nothing is stopping you from Concentrating twice as well.

In my opinion, going to something like 8-9 Chi on the first turn on a single model is overkill, unless you're planning on sending him in the middle of the enemy crew.

If I combine both our methods here, I could get the following:

    • Shenlong: 4 Chi from Students + 3 Chi stolen from HRM = 7 Chi + 2 distracted for an explosive Fermented Style Turn 2
    • Sensei Yu: 1 Chi, unless you didn't move him. If not moved, he has 1 Concentrate which you can spend on whatever
    • HRM: 1 Chi and 3 Focus or 0 Chi and 4 Focus

Doesn't seem like such a bad deal, considering you barely used cards for this.

    1 hour ago, Nikodemus said:

Looks alright, I did similar Chi+Focus buffing on my HRMs. But why not Fast? Between Shen and Yu you can have two Fast Monk minions. All it costs is 1 chi per said minion.

And yeah Shenlong is miles away the best beater in the crew so I'd rather pump him up. Although he can generate a lot more Chi so I can see why you'd set up other models and let Shen take care of buffing himself, which he can to an extent.

How can I get both Shenlong and the HRM Fast at thesame time? Yu's Action is a Free Action, so you can only use it on one of them. The only way I can see this being possible would be to use 2 Peasants Wandering Students on Shenlong first and use Sensei Yu's Free on Shenlong to give him Fast. Then on Shenlong's last AP, you transfer that Fast to the HRM to max out your Fast spread.

If you look at the above, you can actually buff both of them up at thesame time pretty easily, which is great. Having a HRM start a Turn with 1 Chi and 3 Focus is a good Turn for him as he'll be guaranteed to get his 2 attacks off rather nicely.

The question becomes: is it worth doing this on Turn 1? If I go my Shenlong + HRM buffing strat, I'll be using Shenlong, Yu, HRM, 2 totems and a LRM. This is already a very big investment. On the other hand, I still have some pieces left as I've only used 9 (Yu) + 8 (HRM) + 4 (LRM) = 21 stones worth of hires. I know certain crews won't allow such an elaborate setup, but against the ones that do?

  15. I was thinking of going Shenlong for my next game, regardless of schemes and opponent crew. I want to get to know him in all matchups as that can help you get out of tough spots. I was thinking of bringing a Shenlong, Sensei Yu (duh) and a High River Monk. I think I found some great setup, but I'm not sure if I'm looking at this correctly.

    It goes like this:

    1. Yu activates and uses Wind Blast on HRM + Walks up => HRM gets +1 Chi from the damage taken due to Yu's Aura
    2. HRM activates and does a walk, Concentrate and Risky Maneuver => HRM gets +1 Chi from activating, +1 Chi from Risky (Yu) and Focus +1 => HRM 3 Chi 1 Focus
    3. Shenlong activates and attaches High River Style and let's HRM take Risky again (with trigger pref) => HRS attach = 1 Concentrate and Risky is another Focus +1 and Chi +1

This gives your HRM Chi +3, Focus +2, a Concentrate action you can still decide on and a possible +1 Focus if you hit Shenlong's Trigger. Best case is +4 on either Chi or Focus and +3 on the other. You can then Spiritual Alignment to give any model (including Shenlong) up to +3 of those. Either way the HRM is also set up pretty well as he retains the +3 on the other thing as well.

The cards needed to pull this off aren't that special either:

    • Yu needs 1 low card to minimize damage to the HRM. HRM loses the duel anyway.
    • HRM doesn't need any cards as all his stuff is free.
    • Shenlong needs as 6+ (tome if Trigger) for The Dragon Commands It and another 6+ for the Spiritual Alignment.

So basicly for 1 low card and 2 6+ cards you can set up 2 models for the next couple of Turns. Not bad.

I was then thinking of adding in a Low River Monk because he is an awesome Healing model for his cost and can top up the HRM rather easily.

Looks good? I'm just being dumb figuring this out now and somebody already did this ages ago?  I've glanced a bit at Shenlong before, but never really in-depth.

bonus actions and normal actions already use 2 different ways of counting how many you have done as their default.

The effects creating actions section (page 23) still has to follow the triggers creating action and the Bonus action rules (page 21).

In summary, effects that create new actions don't count towards your action limit. Bonus actions don't count towards your action limit anyway, they just have a hard cap of only 1 per activation (unless a trigger lets you do more)

I think he's trying to say that this uses both a normal AP and the Bonus Action AP.

Copying a normal action however does not use up the Bonus Action AP, which makes copying Bonus Actions a negative thing to do.

If I understand his argument correctly at least.

It doesn't work like that. Replacing multiple models lets you keep the highest condition, not add them all together

Well fml. Guess I want my beta back now :P

Any other remarks? I've spent the last couple of days rereading the rules, but it seems I can't keep it all in my head.

Any suggestions regarding crew and game plan? Seems legit or do you think it's a big fail?

    • Haha 1
  18. I've got a couple of games lined up and my Catelyn box is painted so it's time to bust out the cats. Our group generates schemes and then declares faction + master, so we are building a crew without looking at the terrain in general. We do try to keep it fair when actually building the map.

So I declared Outcasts - Hamelin and my opponent went for Guild - Lady "let me blend that" J.

We've got Plant Explosives on Corner Deployment. The schemes are Detonate Charges, Breakthrough, Harness The Ley Line, Search The Ruins and Take Prisoner.

My plan was to go for a combination of Breakthrough, Harness The Ley Line and Search The Ruins.

The crew I had in mind:

    • 6 stones left
    • Hamelin
    • 3x Stolen
    • Nix
    • Benny
    • Emissary
    • Obedient Wretch
    • 2x Malifaux Rat
    • The Midnight Stalker with Soldier For Hire Upgrade

Game plan: The Stalker can easily do either of those 3 singlehandedly thanks to not dying, Leap, Demise(Eternal) and free Fast from Turn 2 onwards. He'll probably be doing Breakthrough as he makes that rather trivial, so that leaves me with Harness and Search The Ruins.

Depending on the eventual board, I will probably go for Harness as I have the Emissary. He can give 1 model "Don't Mind Me" and he can also drop a Scheme Marker for a Free Action. If the Terrain setup favors Search The Ruins, I will take that. I will also try and fake out the one I didn't choose so it doesn't become immediately apparant which one I took.

Turn 1 I will do the trick with Benny to create 4 Rats and use Hamelin to give them all Focus so I have one very strong Rat King (Focus +4). This will leave me with 2 Rats left who will probably Turn into a King when the game goes on Turn 3.

I feel like this list has a decent chance against Lady J as the models are decently durable and won't get one-rounded right away. If they can survive for a couple of Turns, the Blight Tokens will have stacked, allowing my Bleeding Disease a fighting chance.

    Any suggestions?

My reading of it is that it will only apply to the models summoned with the action that you are completing

I assume you don't add a new manifested upgrade to models you previously summoned each time you summon a model even though the action says add an upgrade to each summoned model.

Rules-wise speaking you aren't allowed to add thesame Manifested Upgrade,.

    Page 6:

No matter what, however, a model cannot Attach or more copies of the same Upgrade; if it attempts do so, the second copy is discarded without effect.

RAW you are actually doubling the Upgrade on a model, but just discarding it right away without effect.
