  1. Guess what? It's time to nominate your favorite board games for the 17th annual Golden Geek Awards from BGG! How exciting! We'd be absolutely thrilled if you could take a moment to nominate Vagrantsong for the 2022 "Geekies" by clicking on the link below. Let's spread the word and show some love for our favorite games!

  2. Hey Wyrdos!

It’s that time of year again. Waldo broke out his bunny ears, stocked the fridge full of eggs, and got ready to use all of our miniature paints to decorate them with caricatures of us (alongside your traditional polka dot and stripe patterns). This gave us enough time to start prepping the webstore, because…

    WW_4.5.2023_NewsImage.jpg

The Wyrd Easter Sale is almost upon us!

Starting tomorrow (Thursday) until the 16th, you’ll be able to pick up some limited-edition boxes and models. Attend Mr. Cooper’s Dark Carnival and see what fantastical horrors await! Hop in the saddle and tear up some turf with the Wild Ones, or delve into a world of dark, grim fantasy with Lord Galehault’s court in Legends Reforged.

    WW_4.5.2023_Art.jpg

But that’s not all. This year, we’ve got a brand-new model who slices and dices up her foes in spring style. Horrible Hare-iette, a resin alt for the slightly less crazed Paul Crockett, is yours free after spending $100!

And if that's not enough, for every additional $100 you spend, you’ll be able to pick a free alt model! Some of our favorites are listed below, but you can check them out in the webstore too; the alts will be available for purchase on their own!

    WW_4.5.2023_Promo.jpg

That’s all for this week, Wyrdos. The sale starts tomorrow, so make sure you check out the webstore to see what surprises you can find! There’s no better time to start a new project, or add a little bit more to the Pile of Possibilities…

    Hey Wyrdos!

We just got back from AdeptiCon and Waldo was not impressed with our return, but a few cupcakes later and he was all smiles again. Let's chat about our amazing time at AdeptiCon 2023

    Picture1.jpgPicture2.jpgPicture3.jpgPicture4.jpg

We kicked off the weekend with Double Random Rush, aka "Malifaux Speed Dating," where players get randomly paired with a Crew and a partner to switch things up each round. Congrats to Tag Team Champion, Tim B.!

    Picture5.jpg

The following day, we hosted a 40ss Malifaux tournament where the challenge was to work with fewer Stones and only two Actions for Leader and Master models. Congrats to Cole T. and his Hoffman crew for taking home the belt!

    Picture6.jpgPicture7.jpgPicture8.jpgPicture9.jpgPicture10.jpgPicture11.jpgPicture12.jpgPicture13.jpgPicture14.jpg

The next day, we held our The Other Side tournament. This was a 1 Commander + 10 Scrip, 3 round event. Aside from battling for Glory, the victor of this tournament received a copy of the upcoming Kimon Allegiance box! Those interested in the Beyond should stay tuned for more information soon. If you visited our booth, you may have seen some exciting new models!

    Picture15.jpg

This AdeptiCon also featured the debut of two brand new Malifaux Events, the Malifaux Masquerade and the Cupcake Match.

The Malifaux Masquerade is a hidden role game where players have to complete their secret objective while disguised. You can learn more about the Masquerade and download a PDF of it here.

    Picture16.jpgPicture17.jpgPicture18.jpg

Whether you are just hearing about the Masquerade, or can’t wait to play it again, be sure to sign up for the event at this year’s Gen Con!

The Cupcake Match is an AdeptiCon special, first and foremost about meeting other Wyrdos, eating cupcakes, and having a good time! The principle behind this game mode is simple, match three of the same Flavor of Cupcake, and win the game! Congratulations to Trisha W. for winning the event!

Congrats to everyone who participated and got their hands on those sweet Cupcake Markers! You can download a PDF of the Cupcake Match below:

    Adepticon_CupcakeMatch.jpg

    Wyrd_M3E_CupcakeMatch.pdf

To close out the weekend, we had the community favorite, Bonanza Brawl, with the wild and wacky Loot Deck. Congrats to Cole T. and his Firestarter for taking the victory.

    Picture20.jpgPicture21.jpgPicture22.jpgPicture23.jpgPicture24.jpgPicture23.jpg

AdeptiCon is a great time to celebrate all things Wyrd. For folks just looking to relax, we offered our Splash of Color event the entire weekend. Participants are given a Wyrd miniature, a set of paintbrushes, and whatever else they need to spend a couple of hours painting.

We also held Through the Breach sessions three times a day, every day! Players were able to get their hands on the brand new From Shadows expansion book for TTB and create Fated from the Three Kingdoms. This special convention scenario saw the Fated attempt to infiltrate a Guild warehouse on behalf of the Ten Thunders, sneaking, lying, or bribing their way past the guards. Special thanks to Dustin S. for acting as our Fatemaster.

    Picture25.jpg

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and made AdeptiCon spectacular. Shoutout to Brandon L. for running our events and Sean O. for his amazing terrain. See you all at next year's AdeptiCon!

We’ll be back next Wednesday with another Waldo’s Weekly!

  4. Heya Wyrdos!

This week, it’s been decided that Waldo remains with the home team for all conventions, despite his pleading. We still shudder thinking about that last incident involving horned hats, a sailor moon outfit, and a deep-dish pizza that none of us wanted to eat afterward. So while the folks at the office console poor Waldo, our AdeptiCon 2023 road team is on the way!

    WebsiteLogo2.png

We’ll be at Booth #308 with neat things to show off, and we have a variety of great events happening. Whether it’s the Cupcake Match, Through the Breach sessions, or our A Splash of Color paint and take, we have something for just about everyone this AdeptiCon, so swing by and say hi! We hope to see you in Illinois! That’s all for this week Wyrdos, stay tuned next week for your regularly scheduled Wyrdness!

  5. Hey Wyrdos!

This week, Waldo decided to look at some places to stay at during the cold months. We’ve got fliers and brochures for castles, far-away islands, and at least three different convenience stores. Our imp does adore junk food, so maybe a well-stocked snack aisle is better than an ocean view…

Speaking of real estate, we’ve got a bit more of From Shadows to show off for you all! In Malifaux, finding a place to hunker down for a night isn’t too difficult. What is, however, is snapping up a building or home to call your own!

    WW_3.15.2023_RealEstate.jpg

The Real Estate section will help Fated and Fatemasters navigate property ownership. It covers the rent and purchasing prices for every district in Malifaux City. These can be applied to places like Ridley and the Bayou too!

But how’s the neighborhood? Obstacles list what nasty things the Fated might run into if they get involved with land. The Quarantine Zone has Wandering Zombies and Resurrectionist Dealings, while Downtown’s “Realty Jobs” and Damaging Gossip can put a wrench in any good plan.

Even if players aren’t planning on saving up their scrip for a nice riverfront property, Fatemasters can still use the information in the Real Estate section to make the world of Malifaux richer and more complex, creating a deeper narrative that could even span the entire city!

Hmm, not as many images this week. Maybe this beguiling oni is responsible for drawing all attention away from the thrilling intricacies of zoning laws and Guild permit boards…

    WW_3.15.2023_Kitsune.jpg

    What do you think, Wyrdos?

  7. Hey Wyrdos!

We haven’t seen much of Waldo this week, aside from a few chuckles from the air vents. He’s no doubt planning some good-natured pranks on the newest members of the Wyrd design team!

    WW_3.8.2023_SocialMedia.jpg

    • John has been active in the Wyrd community since 2016, and has volunteered at Gencon since 2019. He’s excited to make the leap into designing, where he’ll be wrangling with the strangest creatures Malifaux’s got to offer! But don’t worry- John’s first love is the community, so he’ll still be around to talk games with players new and old alike.
    • Justin is a veteran designer, with work in numerous other titles. However, Wyrd-wise, he’s been involved since Rising Powers and Malifaux 2E. Some of the thrillingly bone-chilling board game Vagrantsong also has his experienced touch. When not rolling dice, crunching numbers, and flipping Black Jokers, Justin enjoys gardening and reading.
    • Mike is a Canadian author who has been writing freelance for Wyrd since 2016 (go Gremlins!). When he's not helping the Malifaux team or standing in the Bayou daring its most biggest giant leech to "No, you c'mere," he publishes fiction under the pseudonym M.G. Gallows.

    WW_3.8.2023_Art.jpg

That’s all for this week, Wyrdos! Make sure to give the newest members of the Wyrd family a warm welcome before we see you next Wednesday!

  8. Hey Wyrdos!

This week, Waldo’s been having some issues with the kitchen sink. All it took was one suspicious gurgle for our imp to set up a stakeout. So far he’s only caught sight of a few drips from the tap, but there’s just gotta be something lurking below all that soapy water…

Speaking of things lurking below, let’s take a look at two new Commanders in the upcoming expansion for The Other Side!

    WW_3.1.2023_ReoEdwards_Art.jpg

First up is Reo Edwards, a rakish captain living a life in both the King’s Empire and the Three Kingdoms’ Japan. Constant troublemaking got Reo sent to Australia for punishment. Little did the navy know it would be from these shores where Captain Edwards’ journey truly began.

    WW_3.1.2023_ReoEdwards_Cards.jpg

Reo Edwards offers flexibility, able to handle problems with a variety of tools. His Commandeer ability is particularly noteworthy; it allows you to draw from your discard pile while forcing enemies to discard. When he goes to Glory, Reo exemplifies his deft fingers by gaining the Steal Battle Plans Stratagem, which lets him copy an enemy Stratagem!

    WW_3.1.2023_Kawatora_Art.jpg

A grim kappa of colossal size, Kawatora slipped through a gate to Earth hundreds of years ago. Unlike his kin, the oni was able to avoid returning to the Beyond by slumbering deep below the waves. He became a legend, a hermetic monster only rising from his nest during times of change. Old Kawatora has been awakened, and now commands both the Kimon and Gibbering Hordes.

    WW_3.1.2023_Kawatora_Cards.jpg

Kawatora excels at acting as a bulwark for your forces. Nearby enemies will find it impossible to Cheat Fate against him while the kappa keeps your Fireteams reinforced. In Glory, Kawatora’s patient side comes to the forefront. He gains +2 to his AVs until he Activates, and Triggers to help keep your Fireteams alive with Reinforcement Tokens and the Toughness Asset.

That’s all for this week, Wyrdos! What do you think of the dashing Reo Edwards and the heavy-shelled Kawatora? How will you incorporate these two Commanders into your forces?

  9. Hey Wyrdos!

This week, Waldo started reading up on Chinese New Year, and the upcoming Lantern Festival caught his eye. He decided to try and make his own version to celebrate, but didn’t quite get it right. While we figure out what to do with about fifty camping lanterns (s’mores, maybe?), let’s see how a real Lantern Festival gets put on!

    image.jpeg

Malifaux’s two moons make figuring out the exact date of the Lunar New Year a bit difficult, but residents of the Little Kingdom are making do.

In The Lantern Festival, a new One Shot for Through the Breach, the Fated are recruited to help finish up a few last-minute tasks… but secretly, the organizer thinks competition might be trying to sabotage his efforts.

    WW_2.15.2023_Art.jpg

What nefarious plots and schemes might be afoot? It’s up to the Fated to find out before the festival begins…

You can grab The Lantern Festival right now on DriveThruRPG for only $5! The link below will take you right to it.

    WW_2.15.2023_SocialMedia.jpg

AND if you leave a review of The Lantern Festival on DriveThruRPG between now and March 15th, you may be one of two lucky randomly drawn winners! Winners will receive a digital copy of From Shadows, the upcoming Through the Breach expansion book upon release!

That’s all for this week, Wyrdos. Have your Fated had many adventures in the Little Kingdom? Now might be a great time to start exploring, especially since From Shadows is on the horizon!

  10. Hey Wyrdos!

This week, Waldo decided to give out boxes of chocolate in celebration of Valentine’s Day fast approaching. It was a @mostly wonderful gesture. One box in particular was a bit more bitey than you’d expect from something filled with nougat and caramel…WW_2.8.2023_NewsImage.jpg

The Rending Box’s origins are as mysterious as the container itself. Is it the final resting place of a Resurrectionist’s lost beau? A nasty thing enchanted out of spite? Or simply the embodiment of hunger, urging one to push their limits to the next threshold…

If you’re curious about this new free Augment for Through the Breach, feel free to click below and urge your Fated to unveil sweet delights upon the world.

    WW_2.8.2023_Augment.jpg

On a lighter (but equally as spooky) note, applications to playtest the upcoming expansion for the Vagrantsong board game are still open! The link below will provide you with everything you need to start becoming a playtester, with a chance to earn rewards for your hard work!

  11. Howdy Wyrdos!

This week, everyone was in the middle of our weekly meeting when sparks started to fly… literally. Seems that Waldo finally got in his copy of Wonderful Wong’s At-Home Magic Kit. After ducking for cover and declaring a Code Mauve, we were able to resume our meeting mostly unsinged. We resumed our meeting and moved on to the next topic: our Winter Painting Contest!

This year, we want our community to show us some magic! We’re talking about magical effects of all kinds. This is definitely a contest to let your imagination run wild. So pull out your tomes, talismans, and wands because we’re asking you to Cast a Spell!

    Wyrd_Cast-a-Spell_1.jpg

Our theme this year? Magic Effects! These can be scratch-built, added, or sculpted, but the magic effect must feature prominent magic effects aka flames, smoke, sparks, swirling energy, etc.

If you’re new to the Wyrd Painting contests, these are a chance for our community members to express their talent and creativity through the miniature medium. An important point of note: Entries do not need to be Wyrd-based, but it is the only way to qualify for our Best of Wyrd prize!

The deadline for submissions for Cast a Spell ends on March 6th, 2023. Eager to lean more and get started? Head over to our Forum Post here for all the details!

That’s all for this week Wyrdos, and we’ll be back next week with more fun from Waldo’s Weekly.

  12. Hey Wyrdos,

This week, Waldo toddled on down to the train station. When he came back, he had on a fancy cap, a conductor’s whistle, and was twirling a big pocket watch. Every time we ask Waldo where he got them, he just shrieks on his whistle until we leave him alone. Strangest thing, though: even after our ears stop ringing, we can still hear a train somewhere in the distance…

So, while we get our hearing checked, let’s take a look at what is coming later this year: an expansion to our bone-chillingly spooky boss battler, Vagrantsong.

    WW_1.25.2023_Encore.jpg

Vagrantsong: Encore is the story of the Bridge of Leaves, a ghostly retelling of North American folklore. Break out your Bindles and prepare to test your luck against foes both tricky and terrifying.

    New Chapter

You’ve gone into the tunnel and met what lurks in the dark. You’ve endured the cold and found what’s hogging all the heat. And you’ve slipped past the graveyard, only to wake the dead.

Now, in Vagrantsong: Encore, prepare to cross the Bridge of Leaves. The Silver Ferryman will venture deep into the woods, where the buzzing and howling echoes of unrest await. Can you escape with your lives, or will calamity collapse everything at your feet?

Just like previous chapters, Bridge of Leaves will include 5 unique Scenarios to overcome. Players will be able to add the Bridge of Leaves chapter into their campaign (either during a campaign or at the start), or they can play the chapter by itself (more on that in a bit).

    New Haints

Many of our spooky specters in Vagrantsong are based off North American ghost-folk stories and horror films, with their mechanics and lore providing some details as to what may have happened to these poor lost souls. In Vagrantsong: Encore, we are continuing that tradition with some truly terrifying ghouls and ghosts.

One such Haint is inspired by a Canadian ghost story. If you live close enough to a certain river in New Brunswick, you might even hear his call. In the dark and the deep is where the Dungarvon Whooper sleeps…

    WW_1.25.2023_Dungarvon.jpg

We’ll just have to see what type of meal this haunted chef will prepare for our Vagrants when we meet him on the Silver Ferryman.

    New Scenarios

You already know about the new Chapter that will include 5 new Scenarios, but we’ve got a few surprises in store just yet. We’re packing Vagrantsong: Encore to the brim with brand new Scenarios, and a bunch of new ways in which they trigger for players who hop aboard once more.

Some new Scenarios come from places where you’d least expect. Travel Westbound too often and you run the risk of becoming a Haint yourself! But don’t worry, your friends won’t let you step more than one foot in the grave.

    WW_1.25.2023_Runaway.jpg

With Save Your Soul Scenarios, players will try to save their Westbound Vagrants before they are lost on the Silver Ferryman… forever. Like other Scenarios, these are fully cooperative (which means if you were playing the Songsmith and went Westbound one too many times, you’ll have to temporarily switch to another character in order to bring your banjo-playing buddy back to life), but the effort is well-worth it!

In Save Your Soul Scenarios, you’ll uncover pieces of each Vagrant’s past, as well as new Skills that won’t be found anywhere else in the game! And before you ask, yes, all 6 Westbound acrylic standees will be included in the expansion.

    New Ways to Play

Not only will Vagrantsong: Encore have more Scenarios, but it will also provide a bunch of new ways to play the game, which will bring new life into existing bosses.

Was your first run of the campaign too easy? Off the Rails Mode aims to change that. But going Off the Rails will mean more than just increasing the difficulty. You’ll have a new way of building out your character, new Haint Actions (including a new Rummage Token!), and new Events to explore with every new and existing Scenario in the game.

Already played through the story and want to try out a shorter campaign? Short Trip Mode allows you to do just that. In Short Trip Mode, you’ll be revisiting the Silver Ferryman when a certain demonic cat calls for your help. And it’s a lot more than just playing a single chapter. With the Skelly Man saved, a new menace takes its place…

And the best part? All of this content is modular. Want to give the Save Your Soul Scenarios a test run without committing to an Off the Rails adventure? You can do that. Want to run a Short Trip campaign with Save Your Soul Scenarios included? You can do that, too. Maybe you want to experience the full Off the Rails campaign, but don’t want to include the Save Your Soul Scenarios. That works, too. Or maybe you want all 3 to be a part of your game. Nobody is going to stop you (but the Man of Many Limbs might try).

    And Much More

There’s only so much we can pack into this announcement, but there’s still plenty of content to cover.

We haven’t talked about Smoky Bones, which are going to be new dice added to the game that players will earn through play, and will help manage some of those bad rolls.

We also haven’t mentioned Odd Jobs yet, which are Vagrant-specific objectives that players can complete in certain game modes that allow for a significantly deeper player customization experience.

    WW_1.25.2023_OddJobCard.jpg

Or Ailment Cards, which are like Haint Effects, but will be placed on top of Skills on your Vagrant Card and will hinder your character in various ways. You won’t be able to use the Skill beneath an Ailment Card until the Ailment’s removed!

Plus, there are plenty of brand-new Skills and Junk Cards that players can earn. Some are really powerful, some will change how you think about your chosen character(s), and some are just downright strange (a jar of pickles? What am I going to do with a jar of pickles?).

There’s even more we haven’t covered yet, but we will soon. Want to be one of the first to find out what’s coming to our spooky boss battler? Well…

    Join Our Playtest

Sign up here. We’ll be playtesting Vagrantsong: Encore on Tabletop Simulator very soon. You’ll need experience playing the core game, Tabletop Simulator downloaded and ready to go, and a genuine interest in helping us make this expansion even better than the core game.

When is the expansion coming out, you ask? You can hop back aboard later this year (2023). We’ll have a more accurate release window in the near future.

    Shirts!

Oh, would you look at that? There’s more to this news post.

    You asked, so we delivered.

We made Vagrantsong t-shirts! They are available right now in just about every size on the chart. Head over to our webstore today to get yourself a Vagrantsong t-shirt and represent your favorite Vagrant before these shirts go Westbound (er, go out of stock).

And while you’re there, make sure to pick up the DC plush and the Fox Sisters Scenario!

    WW_1.25.2023_Shirt-1.pngWW_1.25.2023_Shirt-2.png

That’s all this week! Stay tuned for future Waldo’s Weeklies, as there’s still so much spooky stuff to cover.

  13. Hey Wyrdos!

This week, Waldo decided he’d take on a moniker: Oswaldo G. Lumpp. He’s been strutting around the office, claws on his suspenders (we don’t know where he got them), trying to hustle us out of baked goods and pocket change.

While we deal with this impish persona, let’s take a look at a true master of criminality you’ll find in From Shadows: the Extortionist Pursuit.

    WW_1.18.2023_Art.jpg

Extortionists thrive off exploiting people, naturally. This comes in the form of the Favors Owed Talent. Rather than accept compensation for a job, the Extortionist can gain Favors. Expending Favors lets one do all manner of things, from gaining intel and scrip to having Fatemaster Characters perform tasks.

But how does one get more Favors? The Blackmail Talent, that’s how! An Extortionist can investigate specific characters to gain huge numbers of Favors against them. Want a corrupt Guild Guard in your pocket? How about a hidden Resurrectionist or an Arcanist operative? Just find the skeletons in their closets. Sometimes literally…

Growing a criminal empire is rewarding! Later Steps let you recruit Underlings, collect protection money, and keep powerful figures wrapped around your finger with their own secrets.

    WW_1.18.2023_Playtest-2.jpg

Interested in helping us test new content? We’re currently accepting applications for Through the Breach playtesters! Participating in projects can net you some sweet rewards, like webstore credit, physical product, and PDFs of published material.

Even better, we already have a One Shot in playtesting, so you’ll be able to dive in as soon as you’re approved! Interested Fated and Fatemasters can follow this link to fill out the appropriate forms:

    Playtester Application

That’s all for this week, Wyrdos. Keep an eye out for more sneak peeks of From Shadows before it’s released, and get those playtester applications in!

  14. Hey Wyrdos!

This week, Waldo decided he’d try his hand at making rock candy. We got him sticks, jars, and supervised him while he melted sugar on the stove. We aren’t quite sure what happened, but the kitchen is now filled with enormous chunks of glowing, purple, sugary crystals. While Waldo eats his way out of this mess, let’s take a look at a similar rock of equally strange origins…

    image.jpeg

Icons of the First World are mysteries. Their origins are unknown, but each serves as a focal point for arcane magic. Wielding the awesome power is a curse… yet allowing it to slip away is a choice none can bring themselves to make.

    WW_1.11.2023_Icon_Cards.jpg

An Icon of the First World is a Combined Arms Fireteam that helps create Tokens. In Glory, the Icon continues generating valuable Tokens, but the area around it becomes Hazardous. All the more difficult for enemies to bring down this esoteric gem and claim it for themselves!

That’s all for this week, Wyrdos. You’ll be able to find out more about both Adjuncts, the Icon of the First World and John Watson, in Beyond the Other Side. Keep an eye out for more information soon!

  15. Hey Wyrdos!

This week, only the gentle sound of Waldo snores through a New Year’s Eve kazoo permeate the office. Everything is covered with confetti and there’s a stack of plates in the sink, so we’re sure our imp had a wonderful time ringing in the new year.

This peace and quiet has let us get a long-awaited treat ready for you all: all cards found in Madness of Malifaux are now on the M3E app and online at malifauxcrewbuilder.com. You’ll now be able to create and save crews for the Cavalier, Witness, Returned, Bygone, and Red Library keywords.

    WW_1.4.2023_MockUp.jpg

Haven’t heard about the M3E app? Head on over to Google Play or the Apple App Store and download it for free on any mobile device! The app lets you create Encounters, track game effects, build (and share) crews, and quicky reference cards.

That’s all for this week, Wyrdos. We’re excited for what 2023 has in store, and we can’t wait to spend it with all of you!

  16. Hey Wyrdos!

As winter sets in, it’s time for our annual break!

We’ll be out of the office until January 2nd, 2023. All messages (and orders made on our webstore) will be addressed after we get back, so don’t worry if you don’t get an immediate response; we’re just resting, recuperating, and/or wrangling Waldo…

However, we’ve got one last surprise before we go!

    WW_12.21.2022_Madness-of-Malifaux_Cover.jpg

If you’re looking for something to do (or just stay out of the cold), Madness of Malifaux is now available in PDF form from DriveThruRPG! Take a look at all the new profiles, read the continuation of the Burning Man saga, and figure out the best way to make these six new Masters and their crews work.

If you participated in our digital promotion, make sure to check your email so you can redeem your free copy of the PDF. Those emails will be sent out very soon.

That’s all for this year, Wyrdos. Thank you all for a fantastic 2022, and we’re excited for you all to see what we’ve got coming in 2023!
