  1. I really like Nekima being a 'boring' beater master, because I like boring beaters. Someone in the master lineup for this game needs to grunt aggressively and hit it very hard, at the expense of not doing other things very well, and she does that. If you wanna add some other stuff to her then great, but please don't take away brutal violent supremacy as her core identity 😧

  2. I think soulstone cache is crazy strong. I've taken 2 in nearly every arcanist crew I've made so far; Cerberus are strong with it since they're so squishy and each extra activation they get based on survival through prevention is murderous. For Hoffman, importing armor 2 models with soulstone prevention and the power token mechanics on top of it means I can double-crit-strike in an important moment where I don't have a ram in hand. Peacekeeper desperately craves to be a henchman, and this basically gives him the station. Also if there's a high model count crew across the table (or, indeed, in the cache user's crew) you can reasonably hope for a lot of recuperated stones in addition to being able to use the stones remaining in the right place.
    I would submit that other faction's 10 stone minion/enforcer beaters would be fearsome indeed with access to such an upgrade.

    They're so good, though. Mv 6, and with soulstone cache in Arcanists, they're absolute murder machines, able to stone+power token for minimum damage 4 with no carded suit. They're not significantly weaker than guardians for defense, and instead gain so much mobility, between base stat and deadly pursuit. In guild, the shoot-good upgrade is also good on them. I've been nothing but really impressed with them in the 3 games I've done with them so far (twice in CB, once in OB)

    Handler consolidates another stalker forward, walk walk done.

    Blood pig pukes a corpse, walk walk up done.
    Handler walks, consolidates 3rd stalker, walks into trees for protection, done.

    Lilitu whips Lelu for a card, walks up, lures 1st handler and hands Sonnia distracted.

    Purifying Flame walk walk and hovers up the board.

    Sonnia walks, heals/focus injured stalker, focuses to counter distracted attack mod, and flame bursts Nekima, missing (no hand)

    Hayreddin walks up, shotguns w/ focus healed Stalker, deals 3. Done.

    Samael activates, creeps along to Sonnia, focuses, and shoots Nekima, hits on king-king, 2 points and burning (total 3) Nekima spite draws, rapid fires, both cheat and he misses, Nekima spite draws.

    Freshly spawned young activates, charges Sonnia, hits, burned card to declare onslaught, 3 damage after shield. Extra attack hits, deals 1 point after shield and stone. Second AP, attacks, misses, done.

    Purifying Flame activates, walks to Nekima, swings at Nekima and misses, hovers through Nekima, Lelu, and Lilitu.

    Untouched handler walks to range to witchfire Nekima, misses, consolidates stalker to B2B with Nekima. 

    Hayreddin walks up, fails aura, and throws the turn 1 thrown idol back over the centerline for 2 HP. 

    Sonnia walks closer to Nekima, heals stuck-in Stalker, swings at young, hits for 2 (BB cancels heal, splashes on Samael) and swings at young again, missing. Done.

    Lelu activates, BfB’s for card draw and a damage, hits and kills Handler, assists fire on Nekima 3. done.

    Lilitu activates, walks, whips Lelu for card splashing on stalker, whiffs on Purifying Flame.
    BBS moves towards edge of board to set up outflank. 

    End of round, Nekima scores 1 for strategy. Sonnia player concedes, citing inability to run schemes (Nekima is managing fire/damage well enough, Sonnia and Samael is engaged and he has no way to leave other than killing the young to score Claim Jump, which will be replaced if he dies to keep them tied up, and no longer has the models to run the strategy while fighting)

     

    Sonnia thoughts on Sonnia crew:
    Misses ability to push out of melee from wave 5. Will run some way to drag her out of melee in the future. Chides himself to remember that disengage is just reduced distance rather than no movement.
    Samael doesn’t have seeking flames, wondering if he should get that back, but he likes Samael a lot more overall, citing Mv 6, arcane shield defensive tech, and creep along. Reliable movement and flaming bullets is desirable. Expert marksmen are auto takes for him and Sonnia.

    Handlers: Df and Wp feels meh, but he does like stone use, witchfire, shielding, and goad witchling aura size (used to tiny aura from 2nd) are all nice. 

    Stalkers: Needed the nerfs, but aren’t very good at the moment, drawn to the pain not triggering on death anyway feels lame in comparison to the previous equivalent, and while he misses the burning on everything, he understands the lack of burning given what can be done with burning now. 

    Skeleton: didn’t realize he was significant which is cool, hovering flame makes it mobile. squishy, but always was. Shouldn’t attack, should just run schemes or use hovering flame to give Sonnia targets.

    Assist action not being interacts means insignificant models (like pig) and being able to do it in a melee is a nuisance, but not necessarily in need of a change. Can’t confirm his feelings yet.

     

    Nekima thoughts on Nekima crew:

    Fly With Me nerfs weren’t felt this game because I adapted to it not being in the game, by just not taking models that have it. Essentially has no value over just flight walking since dragging up dudes that are shorter than you either means you bought Matures rather than grew into them, or you’re taking those super important… tots… that you bought. Turn 2, you’re running schemes and need speed, or you’re engaged and can’t take the action. Really the FwM nerfs just mean L+L is going to see more play, which is cool I guess, but either give me something back on it, or give me a different action and just remove from the cards. 

    Lelu is cool. Df6 is nice, card draw built in is nice, Ml6 is cool. Never got hit in the first two turns. Basically existed to card cycle, but was a meleer too.
    Lilitu has nice purpose for dragging models out of position at a stat 7, no less. Df 4 scares me, but she’s got enough healing probably from her brother to deal with it. Card draw was solid as well, provoking some BB splash. Whip is uninteresting, but nothing to complain about. 

    Black blood shamans getting to carve a tot up for corpse markers and then using Nekima corpse throw on ram to feed it up is reminscent of Ulix’s grow big and strong in terms of suit requirements and multiple AP, and is gimmicky, but Sonnia player felt that this wasn’t imbalanced, just silly. Feeding a tot its own parts to get bigger is just, weird. Focus AoE is always nice, and BBS are worth it in this regard.

  5. You throw tots (and corrupted hounds) with the Sz 2 models that have that trigger into the floor to splash black blood. You do the same with matures to Sz 2 models. Or rather, you could, but the odds that you're that close to a fight and taking a charge action isn't probably better, is slim.

    I mean, that's cool, but A: I'd like to read the batrep to know what all actually happened, and B: Fly With Me felt like the actual uniting factor for Nephilim that actually mattered (Black blood as plink damage is less impressive in the era of shockwaves and misery and life leech, and regen applies less than I'd like because I'm either full health or being focused to death before I activate), and seeing it nerfed feels bad. My argument is that mobility was the one thing that constantly thrown in my face as the primary advantage in the 10 stone beater category for matures (everyone in my beta group, feel free to start vomiting, I brought up matures again) in comparison, and Fly with Me was a big part of that. Now that it yields them the option to actually *reduce* the amount they move in order to move smaller models up, significantly hinders threat range.

    Tabling during a victory is almost par for the course in my experience, and to counter that idea, really the biggest thing that Fly With Me seems to do, is let Nephilim get to the places that schemes force them to go. In fact, I think there are quite a few crews that Nephilim simply can't fight directly (Hoffman, McCabe with Samurai, any crew with Ironsides in it) and the old Fly With Me let them run schemes and avoid combat. It wasn't a matter of kill power. It was being able to do anything else.

  7. Quick question: Why does her melee attack trigger give her another mask right now? Is there another model that has this trigger and Zoraida's just copying that buff precisely? She as per core rules page 11 "Actions generated by Triggers cannot declare Triggers and do not count against a model’s Action limit." can't actually use the double-mask trigger, so I'm making sure I'm not missing anything.

  8. I didn't see this... Let me ponder whether or not this is necessarily a bad thing, though. It's actually kind of a buff to shamans who want to take the blasphemous ritual action but also carry things around. Essentially it lets me carry those tots (Let's be real: Candy) that much farther, but at the same time it also actually ends up reducing our threat range by quite a bit....
    I agree. This is a nerf. Fly with Me also used to be a fast action though, IIRC. I'll playtest it to be sure, but this is probably not in Nephilim interests.

  9. Having as a Nephilim lover been one of the more affected crews of "you can't spam an action", I think that she is manageable now, probably. The fact that she can only hand out reactivate to models that have already gone means that she's going to wait for her... sword... choppy... dead, guys (Can't keep up with their names now) to go before she actually activates, and now that Lethe's has LoS requirement, there's theoretically counterplay. That being said, I still think she's somewhat of a brain-dead master, and I'm sure Molly players aren't exactly excited to play it, but it's playable. 6 inch aura would be the last thing I would add to it, if we're just married to the idea of Lethe's Caress, doing what it does.

  10. LOVE that my girl has her Lorelei, the Living Blade name back on that action, with a nice damage track. Note that Hayreddin's Tot Summon fast action still references Juvenile Nephilim, and I think RAW Nekima's Spite allows the attacker to draw a card rather than Nekima.

    Even then, hey man, Nekima's trying her best out here. Don't go saying things that might get her ousted Nicodem style. I've already lost one master, and I've been rooting for Nekima since I started playing this game.

    Truly, if the nurse can kill something on a ram trigger syringe, and then paralyze/uppers the resulting viktoria, you're fine. Nurses I think are the reason McMourning exists.
    As for Lucius, kill some poor guardsman with Dashel, chain into lucius, who then smacks the resulting viktoria with red tape. Easy money. 
    The Viktorias were OP for the-first-few timers, but as OP gets more and more games under their belt, I'll guarantee the 7 wound mediocre defenses start to really feel flimsy. Flimsy enough to be balanced, anyway.

  13. Viktoria of Ashes has WP 6, which is not to escape the agony of getting hit with a nurse's cast. Make her only able to take melee actions, but only outside of her crew, give her neg flips to everything and then precise through the armor you gave her, or, you know, just paralyze her. If blood is out of her pokeball, she's only got WP 5. 
    Ashes only has straight flips on her sword and can't use the (0) to get positives if she wants to unbury her sister, so useless duplications makes her feel pretty bad if you go mimic heavy in Lucius. Granted, blood will still maul you, so it's only a partial solution. For Lucius with the doppelgänger, initiative can be relatively assured thanks to ill omens, and thusly using a hunter to command/pimp walk into chain harpooning and trying to kill ashes before she goes, or with "watch my back", you could try some combination of 1-2 punch to get her in the ground before the vik bomb goes off, once again assuming you have the doppelgänger and the other models to make it work.

    I'm an ape. I missed that bit. Changes the game quite a good deal, actually. That being said, there are still things that could be procrastinated to be dealt with later. Lady J managed to deal damage before these upgrades, so I don't know how far behind she's going to feel without them, but I haven't seen it in action quite yet. And into incorporeal models, it's actually pretty good with that cast action she gets against buried models.

    Don't get me wrong, I like Swordfighter Vendetta better, but Hoffman (for example) standing next to a riotbreaker/peacekeeper with a malifaux child giving him his patchwork plating with advanced harness is going to unavoidably reduce 4 damage a hit. Before soulstone use. One duel with a value of 7 into his WP and I don't have to deal with that for basically the rest of the game. As a Lilith player, getting one value 7 attack into WP 5 in to box my master for basically the rest of the game would be a nightmare.
    It gets rid of problem children who like to avoid dying, is basically what I'm saying. Swordfighting Vendetta is good, but (and you have no idea how hard it is for me to say this) there's more to life than damage.

    To be fair, I don't have that much experience with wave 5 Guild. On paper, advanced harness Hoffman excites and terrifies me, and Lady J got some nice buffs with actually usable upgrades, and on the flip side, while song of blood for Lilith and either upgrade for Dreamer are decent enough to consider,  it's not the "Oh man, the game has been changed, look out world!" vibe Guild upgrades seem to be getting. 
    That news makes me hopeful however, as Guild is arguably one of the most fun factions to play.

    The thing is, there's still plenty of room for theme crews, but without these 5 models which I would confidently say are most universally used, and out of habit if nothing else, it would be hard to make guild crews without these models.
    In my experience playing guild is itself hard mode:P
