  1. Hmm, I have two sites listed with a decent amount of Basing tutorials.  There is MaGie Miniatures which seems to have more specific basing tutorials (e.g. doing a forest base start to finish), and there is Massive Voodoo which has a lot of tutorials often covering specifically working with certain materials or techniques.

It's been a while since I went looking for any new tutorials though, so there may be great ones I'm not mentioning out there, and I know there is a good number of rather well off painters here on the Wyrd forms, although I don't know that any of them particularly maintain a dedicated tutorial thread or anything here.

  2. Honestly, if you want to do your own bases, just jump into it.  Or maybe read a few guides first or what have you, but just get at it!  Using Cork board or Foamboard and various simple crafting materials, as well as random odds and ends bits you might pick up from different production companies, it's pretty easy to just throw some things together and get decently good looking bases.

Plus I think building and modeling the figures is a bit more fun than painting, although in the end painting ends up finishing the model, so I suppose it's a bit more rewarding in that.. it ends projects and makes people say 'oooOOoOo, aahhhhHHh'.  :P
