Lady Justice - Melee Master, high damage and self sufficient, Guild Marshal
Perdita Ortega - Ranged Master, hard to hit and Family synergy, Family
Sonnia Criid - Casting Master, Blasts and Burning synergy, Witch Hunter
Douglas McMourning - Guild/Ressurrectionist, Melee Master, Poison synergy
Charles Hoffman - Casting Master, fantastic Construct support, MS&U
Lucius Matheson - Guild/Neverborn, Casting Master, Minion support, Mimic

Lucas McCabe - Guild/Ten Thunders, Combined arms Master, fantastic Minion support, Black Sheep
Nellie Cochrane - Casting Master, fantastic Minion support, Journalist

I wouldn't call Lucius a "Casting Master". He has no Ca attack actions, tactical actions yes, but those aren't really a quality that makes a Casting Master. His own actions are based on placement and scheme running with Primary Emphasis on Minion support. His only attack action is a sword that gives :-fates to hit mimics and minions.

Nellie gets away with being a Casting Master because she does have Ca Attack actions that do damage.

  2. I've got no idea why Dashel is in the list. If Allison Dale is in the list then I could see taking him for the extra Guild Guards so she can get extra damage from her attack.

There are three Field Reporters which doesn't make much sense to me. They aren't good KJ targets because they are not very fast to get across the board. If you go up against a long range list you might find that they aren't doing much of anything. I'd suggest Guild Hounds as an alternative. Manipulative is good, but I don't think it helps with the KJ bomb. Maybe I'd drop down to one or two field reporters.

Nellie is also should have her Delegation Upgrade so you can throw something across the field. Perhaps take a Ronin? You could give it fast and then launch it across the board then next turn you could use its Seppuku action to summon KJ? Not sure if that works though, I don't know if that will allow KJ to be summoned.

What schemes are you trying to cover in this list? Or is this just a general I want to table my opponent list?

Are you sure they weren't just fan art, or that the kickstarter wasn't fully licensed?

If I remember correctly it was a collaboration with Wyrd Games and a developer(No idea who). There was some discussion at the time whether the Kickstarter backers were funding it for the actual game or for the Malifaux models. I don't know why the game never came to fruition.

Drawn by Clouds was the game company behind it I believe. With Wyrd set as publishing the physical part of the game.

It's been three years since the project died and the website is completely expired.

  4. Thinking back to when I first started Malifaux there were a couple of pictures I saw of limited edition models that never came to fruition. They are part of a failed kickstarter. Thought I'd share them in case people hadn't seen them before. I kind of wish they came back. I really wanted to see all three of these models. Collette, Lucius + Hunter, and Pandora.

The returning trend of Guardsman is that they work in pairs but as you said certainly are costed 'as usual'. A bit like the Gamin of the Arcanists?

The problem with costing pair models as one model is that it makes purchasing a single model a trap. So two Guild Guard for 8ss is about average, but one Guild Guard for 4ss is over costed.

Guild Riflemen, Hounds, and Guard need a second model to function. Pathfinders need Traps to function. Mounted Guards need a Ch7 or higher model. Guild Sergeants and Dashel need any Guardsmen to function at their SS cost.

Wardens and Austringers are the only Guardsman models that don't need another model to function on their own. Though Wardens arguably need hoffman's targeting systems modfication to get their Paralyze Melee off.

I actually like all the guardsman sculpts.

    Weird me.

I actually really like the sculpts as well. The rules?... they could be a lot better. For starters Guild Guard are supposed to be cheap cannon fodder as per the lore, but they cost too much in comparison with other models. I'd argue that two guild guard are lesser than a Guardian, simple fact that a Guardian can actually hit something. Whereas Guild Guard get out paced by Guild Hounds in every respect. Guild Hounds being 1ss less per model than Guild Guards.

Ryle with Numb and Debt though? Mmmm, mmmm good.

Make him a Marshall and watch your opponent flounder as you powerfist their crew.

I always run Ryle with Debt now. He's got a lot going for him, both for :+fate for his Sh attack on attack and damage and because of his melee. I've seen too many people fall into the trap of charging him to kill him.

If for some unknown reason I would take Samael Hopkins I would never consider Witch Hunt. I would sometimes skip Unrelenting Leader (less likely) and Research Grant (more likely). The true Ryle upgrade is Numb to the World.

Definitely a to each his own on this. I've managed to get a lot of Burning out with Hopkins's upgrade. Unrelenting Leader I'll skip if I know I won't be bringing extra:melee attack actions, but usually I have some melee models in that make it worth taking.

Research Grant I almost always take, because I use Dr. Grimwell to hunt fast scheme runners, which typically have less wounds.

Sidir 100% needs two upgrades to function. Dashel does pretty okay damage because his Ml attack has a weak damage of 3 like most other Guild henchmen.

I guess my lackluster feeling is the fact his min and medium damages are the same while his severe is only +1 from weak. But as a support model he doesn't want to be in Melee he wants to be by Guild Riflemen or other guardsman models.

It might work for Melee Guardsmen like Wardens and maybe Hounds, but I've not had the chance to play that combo more than a couple times.

I feel like the DMR and frank is a legit team for SoF.  im not sure what upgrades I would put on him though (probably debt).:

Edit: tried it last night,  the need for rams made this inconsistent.  Because of the layout they were still a good group to get those points (plus my opponent only brought 2 upgrades to resist) and cheaper than other options.

Guild is not struggling with "Show of Force" I've found. Most of our Henchmen and some enforcers need their Upgrades to function.

    • Phiona Gage - Wrath of the Guild
    • Sam Hopkins - Witch Hunt
    • Judge - Unrelenting Leader
    • Francisco Ortega - Wade In
    • Dr. Grimwell - Research Grant

I don't use Sidir or Ryle too much so I can't speak to them, but I know Dashel doesn't really have a 1ss upgrade that benefits him. Even with "Debt to the Guild" he doesn't do much damage normally so the +1 dmg is not really that necessary.

  11. Recently I took the Death Marshal Recruiter as part of a Lady J list and I got to say I was not disappointed at all.

    The List:

    • Lady J
      • Last Stand
    • Judge
      • Unrelenting Leader
    • Brutal Emissary
      • Conflux of Judgement
    • Lone Marshal
      • Debt to the Guild
    • Death Marshal Recruiter
    • Death Marshal
    • Death Marshal

Not only did the Death Marshal Recruiter make it impossible for my opponent to kill Lady J it forced him to focus his Lures on the DMR instead of other more important models. Because Marked for Death was in the pool I was able to Mark and then get the Glimpse the Void trigger off at one point.

But THE BEST PART was the Into the Fray + Give 'em Hell trigger. All it needs is a 6:mask or greater and you can give Lady J a free extra attack action. Here is the actual text of the trigger to further show how good this action is. Also take note that this is a simple TN action, there is no opposed check by the opponent:

    Quote

:maskGive 'Em Helll - After succeeding, target other friendly model engaged with the target may take a (1) attack action.

Again note that this is a (1) attack action. Not an Ml action, not a :meleeaction, this is any attack action. This could be the Sh on the Brutal Emissary, this could be a Ca on Greed, this could be any number of attack actions that can be used while a model is engaged. Granted it needs a 6 of :mask to go off, but even with the Judge's "Bullets and Blades" and Lady J's defense trigger middling :masks won't be need by them and can be saved for DMR.

What do you think? Is the Death Marshal Recruiter the 7ss enforcer that Guild needed?

Sad to hear that. I thought the thralls would be survivable.

On paper they look like it. But with average defense and willpower the Impossible to Wound only goes so far. Maybe if I take two my opponent won't be able to use Rail Golems or any killy type model to focus fire on them. The problem is just that the four times I've used them so far my opponent has been so scared they've focused a lot of AP to make sure they die.

  13. I'm surprised there isn't any lady J love. Her and Judge can stop Corpse Markers from dropping.

Judge's Ca that does 2 damage is a lot better as well as its damage spread gets larger.

Justice Unleashed is a really good attack for groups of Undead. I remember using it to kill a Hanged and several smaller guys.

Exorcists are also really underrated in regard to taking on Undead. I love throwing them into Melee with smaller scheme runners.

Do they like change production partners in China every year or something?

There was some change recently I think. But I don't know for certain what that means. I think one of the devs put an open letter about why brewmaster was delayed and it was because the moon shinobi were in 100 different pieces that could never been assembled correctly. I'm not sure if it resulted in a different distributor or if they were just able to clarify with the CAD guys.

Yorogumo would beg to disagree ;)

(They are far bigger than those and there's three to a box)

    1 hour ago, Ludvig said:

Have you seen the Jorogumo box that comes with three models?

My assumption still stands. Rider models are vastly different than Yorogumo structurally. Whether this equals lower prices remains to be seen, but we can look at just the facts.

Models that are mounted(i.e. is an animal with a rider):

    • Rooster Riders - $35 for 3 models
    • Hooded Rider - $35 for 1 model
    • Pale Rider - $35 for 1 model
    • Dead Rider - $35 for 1 model
    • Mech Rider - $35 for 1 model
    • Lone Marshal - $35 for 1 model

Models that are spider like(i.e. Multiple thin appendages):

    • Large Arachnids - $24 for 2 models
    • Harold Langston - Sold in Crew Box. (Closest model to what Yorogumo could be fairly compared to in my opinion)

Based on pure plastics costs you could probably argue that bigger Mounted Guard would be on par with Yorogumo, but that doesn't include other costs of making the models, quality assurance, or the likelihood of selling the models compared with others.

I don't ever recall them saying that it wouldn't be duel faction, just that the winnign faction would get the Nightmare model, and I'm sure I would have heard the crys of pain from the ten thunders players if they said no duel faction . (And that year, just before Nythera began the wastrel was the miss model)

It was in the Nythera forums which since have been deleted. Ten Thunders was the only exception for that. It wasn't a hardline obviously.

  17. One of the best purchases I've found is Hoffman's box(Now that we've told you to buy every guild box set ;) ). Hunters are great 7ss minions that are easy to use. They get a push at the end of turn and their chain harpoon is extremely good at giving out slow.

  18. I feel like model popularity and original box's sculpt helps dictate what gets made into a Miss. For example, McCabe was the Nightmare Edition model even though back when Nythera started they said no dual faction master would be used as the Nightmare or Miss model.

McCabe's box was one of the earlier plastic boxes though and he is a master in Guild that people like, but don't play often.

Executioners are getting a bit of a second look again now that they have a new upgrade. So I defintely see the possibility.

I wish Dashel warranted a Miss model, but his new upgrade still didn't fix what he is.

  19. I've been noticing more and more that my local meta players are taking a lot more Effigies than they used to. I'm not used to seeing them out on the field and I know what it can do. I just don't see why I would use it.

Perdita, Lady J, and Sonnia seem to be the main candidates for taking it, but I still don't see how the Brutal Effigy makes up his points. Perdita typically isn't getting hit often for me. Sonnia and Lady J can be glass cannons, but it feels like there are things I could be spending those soulstones on.
