Haha Thanks everyone, and no worries. That fur table is awesome! I've seen train guys use fur in little patches but never a huge area like that. It looks great. I've bookmarked his page also. Serigala - The one with the spider in it, yep it is Rising Powers... Hmm I can't remember the name of the souldstone though.. Have to go steal my book back from my friend. That's a possible idea, thank you.

Thank you Gremlin Guy. Honestly I started playing Warhammer 40k shortly after 2nd ed came out in 1994 and have absorbed a lot in the terrain creation aspect over the years. I guess I learned by just grabbing cheap "trash" like Styrofoam and whatever else and seeing what I could turn it into. Then I started looking at how model train guys build stuff. Honestly I get some of the best results out of the cheapest materials so don't think you have to buy expensive terrain bits.. and now-a-days youtube is invaluable! Also with cheap stuff you wont be afraid to experiment and that has yielded some awesome results for me, and kept girlfriends from yelling at me for spending even more money... Good luck, and remember as long as its fun that's all that matters.

Haha nice. I do the same sorta thing. I like to play out strange narratives during games sometimes also (depending on my tiredness level) that usually gets my friends laughing pretty hard. Makes it easier to win.

Hey thanks for the input also. I'll have to try some of those out. I've been working on getting some of my crews painted to become a henchman so haven't done much with the table. I built a small gallows tonight. The table seems to have the desired effect! I ran 2 demo games this last week alone. Also played my buddy. His Lilith and Lilu killed themselves hitting Lady J. Haha I was flipping masks like crazy. Anyways expect more with the table coming soon. Still need to post up how I painted and everything.

No worries. I do like the look a little more. The grey is a lot more realistic. Thank you for the examples! I took a week break from building anything but got 3 games on the table. The first two were my first gamesplaying Hamelin. Colette and Lilith gave me a good beat down... my third game on it was a demo for a friend. The table drew him in and I gave him Lady Justice to try against my Pandora crew. I went easy and he won but loved the game. Claimed it was like the first time he played 40k. This table for new and old players has done a great job of making games more cinematic and a lot more dynamic.

The next step was to pull out the knives and razors. I grew up in the mountains around Boulder and I'm use to old mines so started carving rock walls. When you look at walls they go at an angle usually and that's the effect I went for. Looking at things now I realize I didn't take any pictures during the process, go figure right.. Then I used foam board to create brick walls. I pealed the paper off one side and drew a brick pattern. Then using a razor I traced the lines. To get the spaces and brick effect I went widened the cuts with a pencil. Then came even more mess. I dug out my huge bag of play sand. Not wanting the sand to come off to easily I used strait PVA glue to coat the areas I wanted to look like "dirt". Then I let everything dry for a night. The next day I started creating the stairs and center platform. At this point Pandora and Colette had a test game to make sure things would work. I wanted to make sure the table was playable before I painted. Fortunately we flipped corner deployments and it worked perfectly despite the mountain. Colette started in and on the mine and Pandora started in the town. After the game we both agreed the levels and density of terrain made the game that much more dynamic.

I wanted to build a table that could be transported regularly and be changed to keep game play interesting. I decided to make it in two 3 foot by 1 1/2 foot pieces. This allows for me to build more sections to change things up. Future plans are to build another town section, swamp, mountain, etc. I started scouring the interwebs for ideas. I love Deadwood so I started building The Gem Theater. Then I went and bought a piece of 1inch pink insulation foam and two 4 foot by 2 foot hard boards. After cutting the hardboard to the correct size I drew the plan out. Next I started cutting the insulation foam. I cut levels out and test fit everything. After things looked good I used wood glue to secure everything, stacking books and other things on the table for 24 hours.

Ok well I have some free time in my busy schedule so I figured I better make a short write up of how I built this table to this point. I have had a deep love for all things Victorian and Steampunk for the last 15 years. I fell in love with Wyrd minis back in 2008 and bought The Judge. Then they came out with Malifaux and I sat at the game shop waiting for them to open to get the rule manual and my first 2 crews (Lady J and Pandora). Since that time I had trouble getting friends to play anything other than 40k and put my crews aside. Then the words came.. "we are getting tired of playing 40k all the time" and I sprang with Malifaux. Everyone is becoming as hooked as I was back in 2009. I decided I needed to do what I do and create terrain. That's when the Outhouse was made. Next came the shack. I used popsicle sticks and hot glue to build them. For these I cut the sticks with regular scissors and an exacto knife. After cutting my knuckles and fingers a few times I needed a new tool. A quick trip to the garage I found some pruning sheers! I needed to go big and make a table. I decided, being single and having some free time, I would make something. The plan started to come together. I have many fond memories of playing Necromunda back in the day so decided I wanted to make multiple levels and make the terrain dense but playable.

Thank you Space Donkey! This whole thing started as an experiment to see if I could build a nice table in short amount of time, be able to transport it regularly, and cost as little as possible. I'm going to explain more and make a little write up with pictures going through my process so others can get ideas. I built the whole table up to this point in 2 weeks and spent less than $80. I will have to check out that Titebond glue. The plan is to make lots more buildings and more table halves to add even more variety to this table. Thanks sir. I have seen that Age-It Easy in the past. I make some rather crazy scratch built ork and nurgle stuff for 40k and looked into getting some of that stuff when I bought a ton of weathering powders. I would love to see some of your pieces you used it on. Makes me wonder if my local train hobby center has some...

I love that table too. If anyone has ever been to Adventure Land in Kansas City... It reminds me of the roller coaster called The Timberwolf. Don't know if its still there but it was a regular vacation spot for us when I was a kid.

Your table is looking great as well. I really like the cracked surface look and the cobble.

Thank you, I will definately go into more detail as I do the buildings. To give mine a weathered look I gave them a light coat of Devlin Mud or watered down brown/black acrylic mix. Oh I forgot to mention.. This table is based off of Deadwood, South Dakota. Hence why its called Dreadwood. The large building on the bottom right is based off The Gem Theater that use to stand in Deadwood, one of the top brothels and overall dangerous place at the time. Its only half of the actual building but I tried to follow the floor plan and make it to scale. Anyways I need to come up with a name for it like "The Gem" that is Malifaux sounding.. any suggestions?

Thank you. Yeah the most time consuming part was cutting the nubs off the popsicle sticks. I'm thinking about building a gallows to go on the right hill. Now is the really fun part, adding details to the buildings. Haha I made the table to be easily transported and took it to the local shop before it was painted. Now to see if I can convert anyone over to Malifaux. I got my roomie (Tigcarn) addicted and more friends are following.

Unfortunately Lady J knows whats up. All of the building roofs come off so models can go inside. The stream dividing Dreadwood from the soulstone mines. The canal running through Dreadwood (need to paint the bricks), you can see a Deamon Prince has warped to check progress..

Well this whole ordeal started with this... Over the last few weeks it has evolved in to this... I built the majority of it out of pink insulation foam. The hill on the top right lifts off to reveal a mine that connects to the top left. All of the buildings, bridges, and trees are not attached. This allows the table to be changed to keep things interesting some what. I still need to paint bricks and finish details on the buildings but it is almost complete. As I get all the photos situated I'm going to post a sort of step by step of what I did. Stay tuned. Critics and comments welcome.

Well have been working on the table but I think I'm going to make a new thread just about it.. This one is more about the figures I'm painting. Here is a teaser shot of the table until I get the new thread made. On another note my roomie and I got 3 more people interested in the game. Taught them how to play Thursday and they all bought crews and loved every min. To celebrate I picked up a new crew myself. Used super sculpey to sculpt the bases (just dip it in boiling water and it hardens) and put them together today. Have to wait for my roomie to get his airbrush back and then it will be painting time. Yay Hamelin! The photos just doesn't do them justice.. They look better in person. I need to work on setting up something to take better photos.

Thank you daemonkin! Having half a day off from work I got a sheet of pink foam board. Just my luck it is the windiest day ever and I literally sailed across the parking lot!

Well things have been a little crazy this last week. I'm almost finished with my Chaos Demon Prince for Warhammer 40k.. Need better photos but.. This is him tearing up my buddies Tau. Then this happened... I started making a version of The Gem Theater that use to stand in Deadwood, SD. Not nearly as big as the real one was and a little different.. also need to finish a roof. This lead me to starting to create a show table, probably make a thread solely on the table. Anyways figured I would share and expect more to come. I just got 5 new Malifaux players initiated and things are going to get interesting hopefully.
