  1. Riposte is why he has a ram built in as it uses :rams :masks.
  2. The Trigger only needs to damage not wound, a prevention flip is to prevent wounds not the damage so again it will not help against Decapitate, the same for healing via Slow to Die. Basically if the Trigger goes off only a Black Joker, the Strong Arm (on a weak damage flip) and discarding cards/stones will help (and probably another exception or two I cant think of).
  3. I've been looking at this and I agree that you may heal from Decapitate but it will still kill you as it deals no wounds (and doesnt drop the target to 0 wounds) and has not been negated. Basically dont waste the Slow to Die action on healing.
  4. Haha to be honest its called the Student Nationals but you dont actually have to be a student. I think you can enter as long as you are basically a part of a gaming/role playing group associated with a University. Although please dont quote me on this as I may be wrong.
  5. It is, thats when he picked it up after getting a 13 on the initiative. Sorry I didnt realise I made it unclear though looking at it now I could have made it clearer.
  6. I realise they have only just finished and you may not end up running it but a rough idea as to the set up you would like will better determine numbers... For example what you've suggested I don''t mind and I would be interested in attending. Had you said fixed Masters but 25SS lists then I may reconsider.
  7. Huzzah!! I would be more than up for a Malifaux tournament next year... I was the one asking about having one organised for this years Nationals, though sadly it didn't happen. I'm at Huddersfield University and there will be at least me and perhaps one more. I'm certainly interested as to what sort of format you may be interested in running it if you don't mind sharing? I.e. would you keep it fixed faction, fixed master perhaps etc
  8. Had I won initiative I would have had Izamu guarding the Treasure so it wouldnt have been able to go very far but yeah as luck would have it he won initiative with a 13 so I lost out. Hopefully Ill do better at the next one with Nicodem as I plan to run him again. Perhaps someone will be able to hit him this time. He dodged all 3 attacks directed at him and I never had to cheat XD
  9. I am too! How he got it was Hoffman picked it up, Tapped Power, passed it to the PK, used Link in, double walked to a Watcher, passed it on. Then as I couldnt reach him he moved, passed it to another watcher and ran away so I never got chance to chase the Watcher. In hindsight I know what I would have done differently. Ashiguru, Dogs and changing Izamu to the Rider would have been one plan with the models I have. Ashes and Dust would have been the other if I had the model.
  10. Really? Hmm I didn't know that, Ill keep that in mind for future reference though thanks! I pointed out he couldn't have taken it because some of the terrain was partly in two different 'sections' although I said I didn't mind and he could take it and we agreed he could only interact with specific parts for specific sections.
  11. Right here is what I used and what I played against; Beatdown Nicodem 8SS - Bodyguard, Army of the Dead Jack Daw Rafkin Desperate Merc 6 Canine Remains Lucas Macabe 6SS (Sabres and Armour) - Eye for an Eye, Bodyguard Sidir Torakage Wastrel Archer Ototo This was probably one of the most amusing games I've ever played at a tournament, if for no other reason that my opponent and the others who came to watch felt it looked like something from a horror movie. I ended up with 15 Zombies on the board after summoning a RN and 2 FC plus Rafkin had 15BP to use up. By turn 4 my opponent knew he had no hope of winning so decided to amuse everyone further by dismounting and having Lucas whip as many zombies as possible. Nicodem kept paralysing Ototo or Macabe whenever he could and a RN killed Ototo in one activation due to Jackdaw putting up Severed Ties and draining most of my opponents hand (before Jack Daw his second lowest card was a 10 so thank god for Jack Daw, although other than this he did nothing all game). It ended with Sidir on 1 would and Macabe surrounded and Nicodem scoring 3VP for Beatdown and 4 for both scores and Macabe only earning Bodyguard. My man of the match in this game was Nicodem for simply dodging Macabe's net gun twice in a row... Who needs two working legs to dodge a net?! XD Treasure Hunt Nicodem 6SS - Stake a Claim, Death After Death Avatar of Decay Grave Spirit Izamu Rafkin The Drowned Desperate Merc 3 Canine Remains Hoffman 8SS - Kill Protege (unannounced), Hold Out Peacekeeper Guardian 2 Watchers Warden Wastrel A few mistakes happened in this game which helped cost me the game... This is made more annoying by the fact I play Hoffman and forgot to point out these mistake, flipping to resist Override Edict and Hoffman taking wounds for his constructs dying being the two main ones. As for the game, Hoffman unsurprisingly got to the middle first and got the objective, he flipped a 13 for initiative, had I won the initiative i would have held the objective and done the same trick as my opponent did. But Hoffman had it and a game of pass the parcel kept me from holding it, since I knew I would never reclaim it I decided to kill the Hoffball which, although took longer than it should of done, it wall all killed by the end of the game. Had I managed to get the right Crow in my hand after manifesting I could have ended it at 4-5 instead of 4-7 but such is life. Or unlife XD Oh and The Drowned was added as a way to move and interact with a (2) objective. Land Grab Nicodem 7SS - Holt Out (unanounced), Grudge Silurid (unanounced) Grave Spirit Izamu 2 Ashiguru 6 Canine Remains Zoraida 6SS - Reclaim Malifaux, Kidnap Collodi 4 Marionettes Wicked Doll 3 Silurids I decided not to announce anything as I knew he would kill the grudged model and for obvious reasons I didn't announce Hold Out, I also took Ashiguru as I knew that would mess with Zoraida casting Obey on them to charge things. First turn saw my opponent reclaim 7 tiles at the the expense of Izamu killing a Marionette and Nicodem Decaying a Marionette and the Wicked Doll, I decided that to stop his annoying tricks his dolls had to die. One of the Ashiguru had the Voodoo Doll target it and the Poison not really bothering it much. Luckily the Silurids had all split up which meant I could pick them apart much easier, especially as the one I had Grudged had come straight down the middle. The Dogs helped flood the board with cheap significant models and ended up earning me all 4VP for the Strategy XD although they gave two away as Collodi claimed the VP for killing the 3 selected Dogs. In the end however all that remained of Zoraida's crew was herself, her Voodoo doll and the flow of summoned Wicked Dolls moving forward to sacrifice themselves. Zoraida had 2 FC, Ashiguru and Dogs chasing her. Had the game continued Nicodem would have been paralysing her (I had 3SS to her 2 and my hand contained the RJ, BJ, 13, 12, 12, 10). When I revealed my schemes my opponent admitted he would have killed his own Silurid and that he hadn't even thought about me taking Hold Out which was nice since Zoraida was getting far too close to my DZ for my liking. In the end I won 6-4. I apologise for these not being proper write ups, I wasn't expecting to end up doing any so I've kinda just thrown bits together and put up a few of the interesting parts.
  12. Thats what my opponent said. I just always was under the assumption that it was removed for the rest of the turn. In a similar manner that Embrace Death or Perfect Machine stayed 'on' once you make use of it. Personally I dont think its clear one way or another (although I could just be cheating myself as I do play Hoffman as well). Does anyone have any solid rules quotes as to which way it works?
  13. Well the tournament is over. I had 2 wins and a loss. Against Macabe at Beatdown I won 7-2. Against Hoffman at Treasure Hunt I lost 4-7. And finally against Zoraida at Land Grab I won 6-4. 3 great games and I had a great run with Nicodem and plan to run him again next time. Hopefully Hoffman wont flip a lucky 13 for a vital initiative again! XD
  14. When casting Override Edict Hoffman has to remove ITI from the target. Now does the target lose ITI for the rest of the turn or only for the activation? Just played a game in a tournament where this happened and I was under the assumption it was for the rest of the turn. Thus I assumped I could use a Wp based duel and it would no longer be immune to said duel.
  15. Okay so they may not provide kills for my crew but they dont count against me either, I can simply use them to weaken my opponents crew so my hitters have an easier time killing things. Should I face opponents who can remove corpses Ill aim to paralyse them either with Nicodem or some Crooked Men. But those are just ideas for crews and strategies obviously they will change depending on my opponent.
  16. But as I pointed out Zombie Control makes them a part of Nicodems crew upon activation. Killing the Zombies allows me to collect the corpses to earn the second vp. Against Lady J the plan was just to paralyse her each turn since her Wp is 5 or 6 so I should be able to get her with 3 attempts and when shes out of SS Ill definately get her each turn. Does the Executioner remove corpses or stop me dropping them? I thought about using 6 dogs and other 4SS minions and flood the board for a few quick VP but I wasnt so sure. And would a Crooligan really be considered such a high priority? Id have thought most people would laugh at the fact Im using one? Ill give the thread a look! Could be of use thanks!
  17. Paralysing my opponents or bogging them down with sheer numbers was the plan for denying my opponent objectives (obviously models I cant simply bog down Ill swamp with heavy(ish) hitters i.e. RN, multiple FC etc as well as any I have in my list). I realise people really dislike Crooligans however I personally think they have potential to do well but its a case of thinking outside of the 'they are objective grabbers' box. They can collect an objective every other turn (if working in pairs) but its a case of a very careful set up. Im hoping my slightly different approach will find this potential they have hidden! Mortimer is literally only there to give me the extra move and Corpse, even if I only get one each turn I think he will have done well. The moving or corpses gives me some board control for the table quarters which Nicodem really needs. I've never actually used either so is just me coming up with ideas. Rafkin on the other hand is amazing, I think he is great. He gives Nicodem the extra Zombies he needs and allows aNicodem to keep his Zombie horde going by collecting corpses (and if he is killed while carrying them they are turned back into Zombies XD ). I've used him in every game Ive had with Nicodem so far and he's proven his worth I think. Its interesting that you think Army of the Dead is a poor choice for Nicodem. Although I think if you tried it with Rafkin you would find the resource thing to not be an issue as Rafkin gets you all the extra Corpses you need. I agree that each list could do with a heavy hitter so I may look to add either Izamu/Dead Rider/Bete Noire/Jack Daw into each list. The Belles or Belle + Crooked Man will be the first to go for a heavy hitter depending on my opponent, these are just a basic idea from which to adapt depending on my opponent. By the way just a thing to point out it seems most players will be bringing either TT or Ressers so plenty of corpses to go around with a bit of luck! XD
  18. Avatar Nicodem does make them part of my Crew which does sadly count against me however Nicodem's Zombie Control says 'Nicodem takes control of and activates any Mindless Zombies within 12". These Mindless Zombies lose the Mindless ability... Mindless Zombies Nicodem controls are considered friendly...' so they will not count towards my opponents kill tally for VP but if they kill anything they will add to my tally. Beatdown seems to be a good Strategy for Nicodem if you create lots of Zombies and to be fair it makes sense the Zombies not been worth anything! lol they aren't Zombie Fodder for nothing XD
  19. Now if I wasn't a fellow tabletop gamer I'd find it hard to believe you could buy so many models accidentally. Since I am a fellower gamer I understand just how easy it is to do XD haha I've managed it with my Resurrectionist lol 'just another box to help this master'... 'Well that wouldn't hurt for this one'. And before you know it XD
  20. I have a tournament this Saturday and I'm hoping to run Nicodem for all 3 games (Gaining Ground's Beatdown, Treasure Hunt and Land Grab Strategies). 'Madness!' I hear you all crying and well you maybe right but I love a good challenge and I intend to rise to this one, although I do need a few tips with my general crew selections and Schemes. For Beatdown the Schemes I was looking at were Army of the Dead and Bodyguard and my general list idea was; Nicodem 8SS Rafkin 5 Canine Remains Desperate Merc then either Izamu/Dead Rider + Grave Spirit or Bete Noire/Jack Daw + 1 Canine Remains the general idea been that since only controlled models give away VPs, so the Zombies are not worth anything to my opponent but since they become a part of my crew when they activate any kills the get go towards my tally for VP. I realise its playing dangerously as Ill have like 3/4 models in my crew but I think the reward is worth the risk since it also means I lack models that are worth anything to my opponent. Plus if my opponent kills the Zombies they are giving me VP due to allowing me to collect Corpses. Izamu/Dead Rider/Bete Noire/Jack Daw will be one of the hitters and Nicodem will summon another when they are needed to wrack up a tally big enough to earn me a VP or two for kills. For Treasure Hunt I was hoping to use Toshiro, Ashiguru and Rotten Belles and simply bunker around the counter but sadly Toshiro is not out yet so instead Ive gone with something a bit different. Death After Death, Surrounded by Death were my thoughts on Schemes. Nicodem 7SS Avatar of Decay Rafkin The Drowned 2 Rotten Belles (I may swap these to 2 Dogs + another Drowned or even Mortimer + 1SS depending on opponent) 4 Canine Remains Desperate Merc I have a few other ideas but this seems most interesting as I dont want to put Izamu in all my lists even if he is made of win. For this one The Drowned will move at full pace for the Treasure since it can reach and interact with it at the start of turn 2. The Belles are to keep my opponent dropping the Treasure should they get it first. Once Nicodem manifests there should be little chance of my opponent getting the Treasure out of any of my Zombies melee ranges to claim VP. To earn the Surrounded by Death VP (if I dont take Mortimer) I will probably have Rafkin (or the Belles) kill a zombie on any table quarters my opponent and the Zombies aren't fighting on. For Land Grab I was thinking of going with Stake a Claim and Breakthrough Nicodem 8SS Mortimer 3 Ashiguru Crooked Men Rotten Belle Crooligan The Crooligan will deploy 12" from the Stake a Claim objective (which will also be in the enemy deployment zone) and sit there doing nothing (unless my opponent decides its a threat but since most people think they are poor I suspect it may be left alone) and simply wait till the later half of the game where Nicodem will hopefully summon at least one more Crooligan to teleport to the one at the back so I have two models completing objectives and on my opponents table quarter while hopefully also helping to deny them VPs. The Rotten Belle will help Mortimer keep pace by Luring him up when needed. Mortimer is basically there to speed the Crew up and generate Corpses for a few Zombies. Just to point out I am fairly new to Nicodem (which probably shows in a few of my lists/ideas) so any advice would be nice, or even just saying you think Im on the right track! Also as a note, I've literally just swapped the last two lists (with a few changes) as well as Schemes after realising that I'd have so few Significant models to claim the table quarters that I would really be only able to complete the Schemes. I may go back to Surrounded by Death for Land Grab but Im not 100% on that just yet. So what do people think and any tips?
  21. Good, no one likes you Neverborn haha Least theres going to atleast be one of each faction now so I don't feel so bad bringing another Resurrectionist, although as I said if enough people on here say they're going to bring Resurrectionist's then Ill bring the Hoffmeister to make the Factions a little more diverse. Otherwise all I'll say is... 'Braaaaiiiiiinnnsss' XD
  22. Well Im hoping to run Nicodem and his Zombie horde in each game though I may bring Hoffman if theres going to be a fair few Resurrectionists and not many Guild players.
  23. What Factions are people thinking of bringing down? I'll be down with my Resurrectionists again.
  24. Pretty much, at 2SS each you may as well add the last 2 since at the end of the 1st turn you'll have 3 left for either another Evolve Spirit or two and/or as a way to protect her from harm.
  25. You start with 5, Kirai sacs 4 of them for Shikome then the dog and Merc are killed by Datsue-Ba and add 2 back along with Gaki or Onryo so her crew goes from Kirai Lost Love Datsue-Ba 5 Seishin Desperate Merc Dog Extras To Kirai Lost Love Datsue-Ba 3 Seishin 2 Onryo/Gaki 2 Shikome Extras And for the cost of 12SS (4 Seishin, Dog and Merc) you gain 26/30SS (2 Shikome, 2 Seishin, 2 Gaki/Onryo) of models and so a net profit of 14/18SS plus a healing flip on Kirai from the Merc dying. Once you get the order right in your head and a solid plan thought out then the whole setting up your crew using the above list is actually really simple and effective. You turn a few cheap models into better significant ones and you are quick enough not to care about the loss of a turn. But as I said if you dont have it all thought out properly in your head it becomes a bit tricky to recover from a mistake so its all about practice.
