  1. Date: 15th June Time: 9.30am - noon City: Wellington, NZ Location: Wellington Warlords, Khandallah Village Church, 33 Ganges Road, Khandallah Size limit: I'll have a variety of pre-made crews depending on players' time constraints. John from Pukeko Games will be there too, with his usual range of Malifaux goodies!
  2. Okay so this thread is making me feel like a chump for picking up the Star Wars LCG instead of Netrunner. Even so it's a heck of a lot better than Spellfire, the last card game I got into!
  3. Had a really good tournament, saw a couple of new faces - one was a new fella taking Pandora with a mere four games under his belt (who did surprisingly well!) and the other took out the title! It's the second time my Viktorias crew that I bought to lend out to new guys has ended up winning a tournament. Perhaps I should stop lending them out and use them myself...
  4. This is impossible anyway, as Sword Viktoria always dies first. FACT
  5. I've made a Google calendar with all the Malifaux events occurring in Wellington (that I know of anyway!). You can find it at breachclub.co.nz. There are two main events there: Hutt Club: These are the meetings of the Hutt Miniature Wargames Club. More information is available at the club's website, huttclub.co.nz. A lot of different games are played there so it pays to organise a game beforehand. PM me if you're interested and I can set you up with a game. Breach Club: This is a small gaming group that runs out of the office I work at in central Wellington. We meet on Thursdays nights (6-9pm) on weeks that there isn't a Hutt Club meeting. PM me if you'd like to come as you need a swipe card to get access. Of the tournaments there two are held at the Hutt Club and all information can be found at the events section of the Hutt Club website. Call to Arms is run by a different club, the Wellington Warlords, you can find out more info on the Call to Arms page. I'll be posting the full rules pack here in the near future. Also please PM me if you'd like a demo at either of the clubs!
  6. The Hutt Club is hosting its third Malifaux tournament! Details: Date: 25th May 2013 Time: 9am kickoff, please be there a bit earlier for registration Location: Hutt Club, meeting at the St Brendan's School hall, corner of Palmer Crescent and Sutherland Avenue, Heretaunga. Games: Three 35 SS rounds. Strategies: Shared, fixed per round: Treasure Hunt, Beatdown, Line in the Sand. Schemes: Unique. Crews: Fixed Faction. Registration: Pre-registration is appreciated, email robert.h.curry@gmail.com. Fee: No fee. Prizes: Prizes offered by Pukeko Games, further details closer to the date Painted: Painted crews are nice, but not necessary! For more information check out the event's page on the Hutt Club website. We've already got eleven entries so this is shaping up to be bigger than our previous tournaments. Be part of the cool crowd! Enter now!
  7. I'm planning to start an annual two-day Malifaux tournament in Wellington late in the year, around late October or early November. We've got a pretty good community here in Wellington but it'd be great to see it the event grow and attract some entrants from outside the Wellington area - are there any Kiwis who'd be keen to travel for such an event? I've got in touch with the Auckland and Hawkes Bay communities, are there any other active communities in NZ?
  8. We had a great day yesterday! We had nine games played in the story encounter tournament while I sat there deflashing new minis. We had a lot of new players which was awesome to see. In the end Robert was victorious in all his games to take out the title. Congrats! We were lucky enough to have Gavin bring down his excellent terrain (which you read about here: http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?38749-Coffee-on-the-edge-of-town) which got a lot of comments from passers-by. Unsurprisingly he also took out best painted. Newcomer Chris won best opponent as well as second place, even though he'd only ever played one game before and was running Colette! Keep you eyes on this one folks. Full results are available here: http://huttclub.co.nz/events/nationals/malifaux/ John from Pukeko Games was there to provide a ridiculously bountiful pool of prizes and vouchers, most of which were blown right away I believe. Thanks John! bruce: Sadly we only got six entries for the story tournament and had to cancel the two-day masters event. In Wellington Malifaux is most people's second game so running a comp at the same time as a Warmachine event is tough going! From now on I'm planning on running Malifaux tournaments separate from the major cons.
  9. As part of the NZ Wargaming Nationals (official site: http://huttclub.co.nz/events/nationals) I'll be hosting a few open gaming tables on Saturday the 30th. I'll bring along all my Malifaux crews and Evil Baby Orphanage, but feel free to bring along whatever board, card or mini games take your fancy! There'll be plenty of other wargaming going on on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so please drop on by and have a look around. If you do partake in the gaming there's a $5 charge to help pay for the rent for the hall. Also any food not purchased on-site can't be consumed in the hall. The Rotary Club will have a food stall raising money for paediatrics and have asked us to enforce that. Date: 30th March, 2013 Time: 9am - 5.30pm Venue: St Patrick's College, 207 Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt. Click here for map. Website: http://huttclub.co.nz/events/nationals/tabletop-day
  10. Okay we had rather a late finish to this one as we extended the deadline so some people could get some more games in. Congrats to Che, taking it out with Mei Feng after a close tussle for first place! Full results are available at http://huttclub.co.nz/events/malifaux-league. Next up, the Nationals! And big thanks to John from Pukeko Games for his sponsorship, as usual.
  11. I'll be organising a roughly six-week league to take place in the Wellington area from mid/late October to early/mid December. 35SS games, fixed faction, predetermined strategies. First two rounds will be random, third and subsequent rounds Swiss chess. Your next two opponents will be decided so you have some flexibility in organising games. It'll like be five rounds, but if we can fit more in due to speedy games then we will. If you're interested please send me a PM as soon as you can so I can get your name down!
  12. Malifaux will be at the 2013 New Zealand National Wargaming Convention. This is New Zealand's premier wargaming event so there will be two separate Malifaux tournaments: On the 29th of March we'll be running a one-day story encounter tournament. This is a three-round, 35SS, fixed faction event. The fee for this tournament is $25. On the 30th and 31st of March the Masters tournament will be held. This is a two-day, six-round, 35SS fixed faction event. The fee for this tournament is $35. But wait there's more! Buy in bulk and save save save! If you attend both then the fee is slashed to a mere $50. We'll also be running with the new Master-declaration rule that was used at the GenCon 2012 events (declare your master at the start of the Hire Crews step). Details of the 2013 NZ Nationals: Date: 29th - 31st of March, 2013 Time: First game at 9am, preferably get there at 8.30 for umpire's briefing on the first day of each tournament. Venue: St Patrick's College, 207 Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt. Click here for map. Website: http://huttclub.co.nz/events/nationals/
  13. It's the second Hutt Club Malifaux tournament! Details: Date: September 22nd 2012 Time: 9am kickoff, please be there a bit earlier for registration Location: Hutt Club, meeting at the St Brendan's School hall, corner of Palmer Crescent and Sutherland Avenue, Heretaunga. Games: Three rounds, each a 35 Soulstone scrap. Crews: Fixed Faction, restricted to a choice of two pre-chosen Masters/Henchmen to lead your crew. Henchmen may be hired into your crew as normal, but can only lead it if they are one of your nominated two. Registration: Pre-registration is appreciated, email robert.h.curry@gmail.com. Fee: No fee. Prizes: Prizes offered by Pukeko Games, further details closer to the date Painted: We'd love to have fully painted crews, but you won't be turned away if you're showing your bare metal. For more information check out the event's page on the Hutt Club website. Look forward to seeing you there!
  14. The tournament was held yesterday and was a great success! A dozen players attended to decide who would take the title of Wellington's most ruthless Malifaux denizen. We had a few players quite new to the game and from all accounts they had a lot of fun and were scattered through the final results. High points: Perdita one-shotting Sonia while on the cusp of Avatarhood; SnowStorm reaping a bloody harvest through the tournament (did he even die once?); Seamus drawing four ones in a row (yep, his deck had been shuffled); Nino, the only Ortega left on the board, making a suicide dash to deliver the message to the ice queen; and the titanic top-of-the-table clash on the last round featuring the struggle between the Avatar of Dread and the Executioner - Seamus survived only by flipping a Severe on the last damage reduction flip. Phew! Interestingly we had no Neverborn or Outcasts - and three Mad Hatters! (Two of whom came first and second.) Guild was a very popular choice, and we saw nearly every flavour of Arcanist make an appearance - only the mighty Marcus stayed at home. Also it was good to see a few avatars come out to play, by the end of tournament we saw Invention, Conflagration and Dread represented. Thanks to everyone to coming to make it a great day, thanks to those that brought terrain to have something to fight over, and thanks to Pukeko Games for sponsoring the tournament.
  15. Now with prizes! The generous guys at Pukeko Games have offered some prizes for the lucky skilled winners: $50 voucher for the first place and a $25 voucher each for the second and third places.
  16. Hi everyone, The Hutt Miniature Wargames Club is hosting its first Malifaux Tournament on the 23rd of June. You can find out all the information about it on this page here. In a nutshell it's a one day, three round (25, 30 & 35 SS) tournament with a 55 SS fixed pool. Tournament kicks off at 9.30am, our club meets at St. Brendan's School Hall, 59 Palmer Crescent, Heretaunga. No fee, just turn up and enter on the day - though emailing the TO (robert.h.curry@gmail.com) would be appreciated beforehand. We're not going to be strict about non-painted miniatures, after all we are trying to get as many new players into it as possible. No entry fee, no prizes bar the everlasting fame, glory and admiration of your peers. We'd love to see you there! Robert
