  1. how so? the summoning mechanic for very little resource investment? definitely good. i'm curious what you're seeing there.

i'm referring more to the synergies available in a Collodi crew that reduce the stitched weaknesses like marrionette pushes that reduce its slow movement, heals by wicked dolls that enable multiple reactivates in a single game, Vasilisa's obey, and the icing on the cake Collodi's my will giving + flips to not so much of a gamble just your dead (er..life).

Ignoring the fact he can summon them. The fact he can heal them when they activate for 3 wounds is pretty great.

Dreamer can hire Vasilisa and wicked dolls if you want to go that route. I just think it requires less work to keep them healed in a Dreamer crew. With that said, YES they are amazing in Collodi's crew, no question. I guess specifically the healing Dreamer can do is pretty nice, and gives them a slight edge with Dreamer.

But you're mostly right, as far as effectiveness they have an almost guaranteed success rate of winning Gamble your life (as long as the black joker is in your hand or in your discard pile).

  2. We played again last night. Was a fun time, but we have decided to transition this to a regular league (i.e. not playing Shifting Loyalties). I will announce two sets of strats and schemes to play at the start of each week.

Players are encouraged to play two games a week but not required. Players can play either (or both) of the strat/scheme sets I announce. Stay tuned for next weeks strat/schemes (will come out Tuesday mornings).

  3. Night of the Carver was a fun adventure. There were about two really great roleplaying sections and the combat sections were fun as well. For what it is I would definitely buy it if I had a Through the Breach group.

    Spoilers ahead:

I highly recommend it for an introduction to the Malifaux setting.

Glad you enjoyed the run thru of this Corbin, was fun to do. Especially the theming is perfect. I did give you all 2 pursuit levels cause I knew these baddies you'd see would be tough to fight :)

  4. @Hagisman and @Winterscook please post your results from last week so I can start tracking everyones ranks.

@Pryokon and I had a tie scoring 7 points each.

There is a section at the bottom of you're campaign sheet for tracking this. You earn 3 Campaign Points (CP) for winning a campaign game, and 0 CP for losing, 1 CP for a tie. Max # of campaign games each week is going to be 2.

So for example Blake and I have the following CP/VP/DIFF (1/7/0)

Games can be played anywhere, but it is recommended you play them at Milly's. I'll be tracking who plays the most games at Milly's for a 'Best Attendance' Award at the end from the new Henchman goodies we have access to.

  5. I don't think they changed the Lure rule.  They just clarified it.  It's consistent with the other Lure FAQ about walking off the cliff.  They just stated how they  intended it to work.

Yeah very true. Just means people need to refer to 2 FAQs for resolving what the card has written on it. Simple answer to tell someone who disagrees is that the card as written is not how it was intended, and that the FAQ clarifies what the intended rule is (i.e. RAI vs. RAW).

  6. Ongoing Malifaux Demos

    Greater Manchester, New Hampshire Area

Typically at 55 Crystal Ave #21, Derry, NH 03038

    (Happy to coordinate another location)

    Tuesdays 3:30pm - 10pm

    3LDYn4l.jpg

I am available for demos in the Manchester, NH and Greater area. My typical gaming is on Tuesday's at Midgard Games and Comics, Derry NH. Walk-ins are welcome, but posting here if you think you'll be showing up helps me schedule. If you'd like a demo on a non-Tuesday or at a different location I am happy to accommodate. Stores in the area have places I can easily give demos. Some of note are Game Castle, Londonderry, NH, The Comic Store, Nashua, NH. If there is another store that you'd like for me to come do a demo at I'm more than happy to do so, just give me a heads up.

I can typically cover anywhere from Concord to Nashua as far as places to drive to for demos.

Looking forward to welcoming new players through the breach!

  7. Let me preface this post with something. We (myself included) all want the rules to be clear and accessible to both old and new players, so anything I say here is because I want to see the game continue to be the best miniature game out there.

With that said, at this point I'm finding the FAQ document to be filled with just enough contradictory/confusing rules that it slightly worries me.

We have stuff like #18 shown below that are pretty simple to understand...

    18) Q: If a model suffers 0 (zero) damage, does it count as having suffered damage?

    A: No

but we don't have clarification on the Black Blood Shaman. It doesn't matter what way I want it, if Wyrd is standing by the wording on the card, that's perfectly fine. The thing is, it is by definition, a Frequently Asked Question. So, yes I would like for the answer that Wyrd has given on a few occasions now to be explicitly in there.

The FAQ does appear to be getting a little long; I believe some of the stuff in there does follow Wryd's policy that "if its clear in the rules no need for FAQ", and could be removed.

It also seems that one of the pillars of M2E's initial design goals of keeping the rules on the cards as clear as possible so no need to look up specific stuff in the rulebook is beginning to be lost.

Now the next example, is just for that, an example. I actually don't care about any rules changes as long as the goal is balance, which I whole heartedly believe its Wyrd's intent obviously. I agree with the 'rules updates', and for that matter it's not my game so I'm not trying to say a rule should be one way or another. But there are some things that are FAQ's in this update that I think would better serve as Errata's to cards.

    The two in particular are:

    22) If a model is moved by the Lure Action and ends in base contact with the Attacker, can it end anywhere in base contact if it has the movement to do so?

A: No. The Lured model moves towards the Attacker by the shortest route possible and stops as soon as it is in base contact. (11/1/15)

    23) If a model is pushed “into base contact” with an Incorporeal model, can it move through the Incorporeal model and stop on the other side?

A: No. It stops as soon as base contact is acheived. (11/1/15)

Whether you agree or don't agree with the ruling is irrelevant. From a "introduce the game to someone" perspective I find this messy. I tell a new player here is a Belle, her card describes "Lure". He/She then asks the FAQ question during a game where it comes up.

I than point this person to the FAQ #22, but have no specific rule in the rulebook to support the answer. So from the outside it looks a little messy, in my opinion. I just wish Lure and (#23) were erratas to the Belle card because than I can say, well no Wyrd decided the action wasn't clear and released updates to the cards.

Am I happy we have an FAQ and Errata cycle....absolutely. I just think simple things are being added to the rules, but glaring FAQ questions and words-on-cards without new versions are being given different definitions.

  8. I prefer suits to look like they do on the stat cards. Not the almost-look-like-traditional-suits of retro, 2-player starter, etc decks. It really stands out with the Crow/Spade as it looks nothing like the stat card suit :crow.

I also like the layout of traditional playing cards, where the suit symbols are prominent. I think the Arcane fate decks are pretty terrible because of this, they are really busy and the suit symbols are tiny in favour of naming the suit and having different background colours, neither of which appears at all on the stat cards. Readability at glance is much more important to me than the cards being fanciful.

The easiest to read deck at a glance for me is def the retro deck. The artwork on the arcane decks is nice but as you mention too busy. Also the border on them make looking at them very difficult at a glance. Same with the TtB deck. All great decks but for me the most readable both across the table and in front for me is the retro.

  9. Ok I've beckoned the people's forum names I can remember who showed interest. We will be starting a NEW Shifting Loyalties this week (tomorrow). We will keep track of games played for seeding the tournament we will plan to do at the end of the campaign! So after games please make sure to message me here (or via email) with results (i.e. VP/TP/Diff/etc.).

I will be doing prizes, yes you heard that right. I will have prizes. Due to it being smaller I will be doing a prize for first place and a prize for 'best attendance'. Games are to be played at Milly's on Tuesday to count for best attendance, but otherwise if you miss a Tuesday feel free to make up a game somewhere else just know it won't count towards best attendance.

  10. I just stumbled across this and will be giving it a go. Looks pretty damn cool.

Oh yeah its great. Helps you set personal goals. I've also been able to see how I'm getting better with a master I just started over time and see what schemes and strats I typically take.

I will be filling in one for for 2016 as well. I have a terrible memory for stuff so this helps me look back and see how I did at the beginning of the year versus end.

  11. Listened this weekend while doing some yard work. Great show, loved the 'hey we're new, but love this game already'-vibe. It shows that you guys are really coming up to speed FAST on the game. Looking forward to more episodes, and keep the enthusiasm up, as that was def. a great element to the show.

P.S. The trapper is something that Wyrd did as a promotion for anyone buy the Daw box back a month or so ago.

  12. To echo the uniqueness of the episode in the malifaux podcast sphere is what contributed to the small pool of respondents in the first go round as we were testing it out. Something we will remedy in future episodes. Additionally there is no definitive list as every respondents personal experience, ideas and views will jade their portion of the survey and of course Malifaux being a game of strategies and schemes will also influence the "power" of a model in a particular matchup. But thats the fun of lists and general nerd debate. I am gald the episode is getting the respond that it is. But by no means does something being on the list means its the end all be all and something not being on the list means it crap. It simply means on that day when people did their survey this is how those particular models averaged out that day.  And relistening to the episode I'm seeing some arguments that people missed that would of changed my mind as to how I voted on it.

Thats interesting. I'm looking forward to what the UK guys are doing and look forward to their conversation.

  13. So I know people don't like resurrecting old threads, but this is one I think that is fitting. We are coming down to the last two months of 2015! I have been tracking EVERY game played on here. I thought it would be fun for people to start thinking about sharing stats in the next couple of months. Any goals or hopes you want to reach before the end of the year?

So far I have ONLY played Neverborn in 2015 (fought the urge of Outcasts and Rezzers). I have 42 games total played this year. I've included tournament, vassal games, shifting loyalties games, and friendly games in my games played (left out Henchman Hardcore).

One stat that surprised me the most is that my DIFF is 1.36 for the year.

So what about others who have been tracking?

  14. I'd say the closure of OTT has acted as a catalyst to closer align the kinds of conversation people are having and the most suitable platform for that conversation. I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing, it's just different.

As a side note there's an interesting US / UK divide, with the UK seeming more active of Twitter and the US more active on Facebook.

Yeah it seems that way. However, I am US based and don't have a FB account and prefer Twitter as it is very concise conversations that you can easily follow (or ignore) if you care/don't care. If a topic needs more than 140 chars on Twitter people usually start a discussion in a DM or post here to have a larger verbose discussion on the topic. Twitter is my preferred social media experience. I use TweetDeck and it easily organizes the different groups/topics I care about. For example 1 stream that just shows #Malifaux posts is easy to stay abreast of.

  15. great summary. I'll just say I'd never recommend taking out a doppelganger from a NB list. They're too good and having 3 more (potentially) shots from the dopple is nice. Plus you also want to win initiative with this list and dopple can almost guarantee it.

Which is fair but I actually don't run with the Doppelganger a ton myself *Maybe a fourth or fifth of the time*.  Part of it is Meta part of it my play style.  Also my opponents have a way of flipping 12 and 13 for a lot of initiatives.  The reason I would likely drop it myself for another trapper is because of our group I am the Alpha Striker.  Example being, the last tournament I was in Collodi killed a Trapper on turn 1 and the other Trapper on turn 2.  My opponent's list had those two as an important part of his Tara list using I pay Better and making them Fast so I knew I had to remove them from the equation to reduce his options and steal the momentum.

So While I love Doppelgangers, I generally am leery having a single model as a lynchpin in my list *Ie the one lone trapper*.  I use the doppelganger's abilities generally for 2-3 VP rather than as an offensive tool.

But as I said before, a big part of the list is a player's style and to add to that, their Meta.  My meta would likely fall for a sniper list like this because they are use to me being aggressive, having a firebase would throw them off.  But then again We seem to have a lot of Rotten Belles in our part so that might be an issue too.

Yeah I can't disagree with that logic, but the beauty of the Dopple for me is that it acts as a second trapper that can take 3 shots. So added benefits for same exact cost.

  16. I think there is still good discussion here. I think the forums is better for discussion where as FB (from what I understand) is better for random thoughts. Here you can expect someone to see your stuff. I don't use facebook and have heard both great and terrible things about the AWP group. So far I've found a good way to interact with the extended community is via Twitter. With that said, I've actually been visiting the forums since the upgrade as I like the new Rules Questions format and the tactical discussion while not riveting, is interesting to see what questions/ideas people have.

If you see the amount of people online regularly there is still a VERY high number. Most other miniature game companies have far less active posters from what I've seen.

  17. I hope there is a Official Adepticon deck in 2016.   I got one in 2013 (the deck in question) and one in 2014.   They didn't have any this year. I though they couldn't get one in time since the event was few weeks earlier.

Well as Nathan mentioned, the official stance is that no one can sell Wyrd 3rd party inspired decks. So Adepticon can give away decks but not sell em going forward.

  18. I know some sniper lists for him have floated about, I have seen one before that was all about the Stitched too.  The one Strategy I am careful about taking Collodi in is Reckoning as I tend to favor numbers with him, something Reckoning has to be careful of.  But some of the sniper lists I have seen with him might do well with Reckoning due to the number of early shots to soften up the opponent.  .

Out of curiosity, what would you take to run a sniper list? Is there anything in faction or would it be Merc dependent?

Well PeregrineFalcon had a nice one up a bit in the thread.

    • Collodi (Fated, Strum, 5ss)
    • Arcane Effigy
    • Trapper
    • Brutal Effigy
    • 3x Changelings
    • Doppleganger
    • Primordial Magic
    • Envy or Mysterious Emissary (Conflux of Music)

In this list your Changlings can copy the Trapper's attack so while they are Sh4 they have a Positive to hit still, can focus for a 28" range, and a 2/3/5 damage spread.    Even the Doppelganger can copy the gun for additional shots and Collodi can pass Focus in a burst and additional attacks out as well.  With the Arcane you can also spread its ability so that each time one of these models manages to damage an enemy they have to discard a card or get burning +1.  Heck, Envy can give Collodi the focus so that he can save his AP to make them do additional attacks.  In this manner you could technically spit out I think 8 attacks with Focus at 28" range, 5 at Sh4, 3 at Sh5 with the rifles.  The only two things about the list is that it has to be careful if the enemy has stuff like Raptors or walls, the second thing being that the Mysterious Conflux *if you go the Emissary route* might be more useful as it can give additional positives to your minions.  Means when they focus and shoot with the clockwork rifle they are flipping 4 cards rather than 3. but I think the Envy right might be the better way unless you want to spawn more Changlelings.

Another variation of this might be to take two trappers and two changlings, drop the Doppelganger, stick with Envy, the two effigies, Fated, Strum the threads, and that leaves you some SS to decided what else you might need such as maybe a Stitched Together. Less shots but you can generate 4 at Sh5 and 3 at Sh4 if you want and it can spread out a little bit more..

great summary. I'll just say I'd never recommend taking out a doppelganger from a NB list. They're too good and having 3 more (potentially) shots from the dopple is nice. Plus you also want to win initiative with this list and dopple can almost guarantee it.

  19. Great episode, Adam.

Is Spawn Mother truly the second worst Henchman? I am not disagreeing with the results, I haven't played nor faced most of the Henchmen yet, I am just sincerely interested in your opinion.
Her model hasn't been released in plastic yet and her metal one is very rare. Do you think that she would place higher if it wasn't the case?

First and foremost....we are not claiming that the ranking of the henchman in anyway is THE order if you (or anyone for the matter) racked and stacked them. The order came to was just to give us something to go from and incite a fun discussion.

Second we don't believe that any of the henchman to be bad (or need help) etc. Remember ss cost is a good gauge for ROI of a model. The last (or second to last for that matter) models in the list aren't bad models and serve roles in many cases. But others may just be a little better. For example if we were to have a ranking system from 1-10 where 10 being best and 1 being worst I'd say Ototo is a 6 and everything in between to #1 is some thing in between that and a 10. I actually like spawn mother quite a bit on paper and have faced her a few times to see how effective she is. With that said she isn't out in plastic and a lot of people haven't seen her so have less experience and may have ranked her lower. I think she's actually quite good so don't read too much into the ranking. More so read into the reasoning why model X beat model Y in a 1v1 and figure out how much you agree/disagree.

Thanks for the feedback and comments!

P.S  Ototo Wp 4 is pretty rough though from a stat block perspective.
